The restaurant inside JW's Foods.I liked it. Practical set up. A gathering space for local guys it seems. I had a cheeseburger with ketchup; turned it into a combo with large fries and soft drink, had it to go. Good hamburger, hot, and crispy hot fries.They also have a typical deli case, and she had a small taco salad and liked it. Dessert was a $.75 cent cup of ice cream we bought after our main meal. No little wooden spoon with it. My combo meal was $10.15. Took about ten minutes to cook it up for me. The two staff working were friendly and helpful and doing the best they could. When we visit Kalona again, we will eat here. Restaurant is to the right when you enter the store. [10/22]

DO NOT SHOP HERE. As an employee who worked here, I do not condone the quality checks they do. For the time that I've worked here, I've had to pull cart-fulls of product off of the shelves, and it is still not enough.They sell expired products and (if you're lucky) some products can be months to a year or two old. Most of the time it's stuff like chips and drinks that get sold expired, but every product (except most of their dairy) is bound to be overlooked. They do have a separate section for expired products, but it is poorly maintained (it should be more full with all of the products this store sells). They only regularly check one aisle (the cereal isle), but the frequency that the business checks their expiration dates throughout the entire store is way too low compared to the likes of Hy-Vee, ALDI and Walmart.Curt (the owner) does not care about his consumer base in this manner.If you want FRESH groceries at a decent price, shop somewhere else.

Really large selection for a small-town grocery store. Although the deli is where I spend most of my time! JW’s has one of the best tenderloins I’ve been able to find, and the other options they have are delicious as well. I really enjoy the crispy chicken. Great place to grab lunch.

It's nice having a grocery store with a great selection in our community, I've lived in Kalona for 20+ years & know the importance of supporting our local businesses, I like their hours & they almost always have everything I need for whatever it is that I'm cooking.

JW's is a local grocery store. In it's earlier years it was nice but the prices where not that great. I believe now they are better than ever. It can still be a bit pricey for something but if you don't want to leave town it's worth it. They also have a little dinner which has great food.

Get a self checkout already. Never watched someone destroy a loaf of bread so quickly trying to get it in with 3 cans of Pringles. Should have just walked out. Needless to say ill never have to worry about that again.

Friendly employees, prices are slightly higher, but what does one expect for the convenience. Has a good variety of items. The store is neat.

My favorite in the restaurant is the fried tenderloin sandwich with curly fries. Will make a special trip out of town just to go to eat here in Kalona. Staff is lovely as well.

Nice place to get groceries and have that small town feeling. They do have an app titled JW's Foods where you can find their weekly specials among other specials they may be running and you can pick which ones you want to use.

Small town grocery store with deli for sit down eating. Stocked with basic items and pretty fair pricing. No alcohol sales and closed on Sundays.

Has a layer of grime on the floor. Lazy, young, and underpaid workers. Good variety of things, including meats and produce. Very poor worker pay. Deli food is plain and overpriced. Good coffee.

Out of the landfill into my stash

Overpriced Meat & produce should have been pulled last week. The only thing they have going for them is that it's at least 18 miles to Washington or Iowa City but don't forget it's only 7 miles 2 Freeman Foods in Wellman.
