We love the Johnston Iowa Fareway grocery store and meat market. The service is always excellent and super friendly. Food prices are fair and the choices at the meat counter are the best.

Love this Fareway! It’s my go-to grocery store in the Johnston area. I feel like it’s better priced than the other grocery stores nearby. The employees are always verrrrry friendly, too! Great selection of pretty much anything you could want, and there’s always plenty of parking outside.

Fairway grocery has an extremely clean and relatively new store in Johnston. This is where I preferred to do my online shopping and have found the meat counter staff to be helpful and friendly. There’s plenty of parking with a coffee shop right next to it. Most items are always stocked with an occasional empty shelf but for the most part, the staff works to keep well, isles, tidy, and fresh.

Every single trip here is better than the last. I can not say enough good things about the customer service, layout of the store, quality of food, the prices, literally everything about this store surpasses my expectations. From comical managers to the sweet kind checkers to the personable kids carrying out my bags, Rose Lynn with food samples, Greg teasing playfully with my children, and the knowledgeable, patient meat counter staff...seriously this store never disappoints in ANY capacity.

Meat bundles available are great deals. 8515 hamburger was 3.49 a pound as of 8/30/23. Pepsi 12 packs 3.49 ea if you buy four. And they walk your groceries out for you 🤷🏻‍♀️ I will be back 😊

Fareway is almost always the best price on many of my day to day groceries, and to make it even better, they still believe in good customer service and have actual cashiers working up front!I don't mind using self checkouts when it's more convenient for me, but that's pretty rare that I only go in for one thing.The location in Johnston on Merle Hay Road is one of my favorites because I drive by there multiple times a week, but also because the people working there are friendly, quick, and caring.The meat department is excellent too. There's almost always something on sale that interests me, but even when there isn't, their prices are very competitive, and their quality is far better than any other stores.

This isn't my regular place for groceries, but it's a convenient stop for the occasional small list. I like the size for a quick in and out and the staff have always been good with me.

Nice, newer store with a larger selection of groceries. Very pleasant staff ALL masked! Thank you! However, do not care for all the "Self Pay" lanes they have. I like Fareway for the personal service, but don't take those jobs away from people who need the $...! Those lanes were very empty & I passed them up for only 5 items... Don't get rid of jobs for Iowans - no matter their age!!!

I had to take timeout to commend this store. They seem to be all on the same page as how to handle customers. I was impressed with the help at the meat counter and the friendliness of all of the employees throughout the entire store. Obviously a well managed store in my opinion!

I worked here for 2 months and I’m repulsed by the environment of this store. A company that formerly valued my business as a customer & made me feel somewhat valued. Going from a customer to an employee should’ve been a rewarding experience but it most certainly was not. I worked FT in the Meat Market and I had previous experience from working with Hy-Vee, they did not care one bit. Which I kind of expected, but I also had to learn how they operate as well, as I was learning my way, I was informed that they didn’t have time to train me & expected me to adapt rather showing the process. They constantly harassed me about my speed, and told me I was too slow. After being out of the loop for 3 years, readjustment wasn’t easy which was expected. Every day coming into work wasn’t enjoyable & was worse than the previous day. Tried to work out situations with the managers like disgruntled customers, but they are too concerned with their reputation instead of there character. Definitely wouldn’t recommend working here.

This is my new favorite grocery store! The Fareway crew is very friendly and the meat guys are a party. The store is spiffy clean and well organized. Although I'm very close to the Ankeny location, I prefer to drive a bit further to shop here. So happy I found this store!

This particular Fareway tends to have a smell that turns my stomach, which makes it hard to think about buying food. I'm rather sensitive, though. Not sure exactly what it is - some food they prepare in house, I think. Definitely NOT something dirty or spoiled, mind you.Still, it's a Fareway, so there's good quality meat at the counter, and very helpful people up front

Beautiful store! Well stocked with a great variety of items and prices are very good. Employees were friendly and helpful! Angela who checked out my order was delightful as was Sam the bagger. Not the closest store for me but worth the extra drive. I will become a regular.

The best beef in town! Quality meat and produce at a fair price and all the other groceries you want at less than you buy them down the street at Hy-Vee. I always shop here first when I am in town to visit my daughter. Highly recommend!

Reasonable prices, good meat counter, polite employees. The bacon wrapped filet is reasonably priced and has been tender and delicious. Shaved meat, ham balls, their own blend of ground burger, turkey tenders and boneless chicken breasts are just some of the great meat selections. The rotisserie chicken is tasty and a good value.

I like the meat from Fareway the best of all of the choices we have. Even though this Fareway doesn't have a bakery they have a good variety of baked goods that are wonderful. The people who help you out with your groceries are so friendly and I think that is a big advantage over the competition. I truly like Fareway stores but I wish they were a little bigger and carried a little more.

Overall great, but Heather kept demanding I come put my groceries down on the counter when the customer in front of me hadn't yet moved. she apparently wanted me to stretch 6 feet to give her my basket. I am not physically able to do that, and she only had to wait about 10 seconds for me to get closer. Please be more patient with customers during covid.

Faraway is the best grocery chain in Iowa. No nonsense shopping. Terrific selection, no fluff like the competition. Good prices and the meat counters are old school, personal service and quality product. Checkout is fast and friendly, groceries are still taken outside for you and loaded into your vehicle.

I love Fareway and this store is by far my favorite!!! Management is very responsive to requests, the store is convenient and the staff helpful. Today the manager went above and beyond. My only complaint is my favorite meat market manager got promoted and moved on to corporate. But there are plenty of new folks helpful as always.And my overall Fareway review- Love the parking at most Fareway’s as well, it is designed much more convenient then Hy-er priced places. The pricing in the allergy friendly section and special requests for items is excellent, best in town. Honestly, I have lived all over the globe and the US, and I have never lived anywhere with such excellent prices throughout the store and incredible meats.

Besides the convenient location of this Fareway store and the awesome meat department. They also give 'Food bucks' based on the produce you buy and the quantity. The 'food bucks' work like cash and can be redeemed at other stores and even the Farmers Market. That was pretty awesome. But it's only for a limited time.

Clean store.. excellent service and great food at the meat counter. Friendly cashier. Self checkout was not user friendly. Anytime I used the produce lookup it requires the cashier to come over to verify. That's ridiculous if it's self checkout and you have to stop several times for authorization. Very inconvenient...

Great store and very nice employees! Their online shopping is very well done and efficient. It's the best of any grocery chain and better than Instacart.
