My cat loved them (was purring and flirting with them even while she got a shot!) and the doctor included my son in the exam. Afterward, he played vet for an hour with his toys in his room. We absolutely love this vet! It's fully staffed and they're all wonderful with animals. Dr. Carlson & Dr. Shannon are knowledgeable and friendly. The vet techs and assistants are welcoming and calm with our dogs. The The office and exams are always very clean. It's very clear this is a group of people who really get how important our pets are!

I needed to find a veterinarian clinic for our dogs since moving to Iowa for their health check up and immunizations and in order to have them stay at a kennel when I'm traveling out of town. I made an appointment at Veterinarian Associates in Iowa City as the waiting time for new customers wasn't too long.The clinic staff was excellent and very friendly, polite, and professional. The technician truly enjoys dogs and made our dogs feel very comfortable and at ease. The veterinarian was also great and had a great bedside manner while examining our dogs. In addition to getting updated vaccinations, the veterinarian completed a physical exam for both dogs.The costs for the physical exams and immunization was very reasonable and the clinic also sent the immunization records to the kennel I will be using for our dogs. Although Veterinarian Associates is a little further away from where we live and there are some clinics closer, I was very pleased with them and will continue to take our dogs to Veterinarian Associates in the future.

Veterinary Associates has provided my golden the best, affordable care in iowa city for 2 years now. He recently ingested some medicine he wasn’t supposed to and when I called to ask for advice they were so patient and helpful. They even called the next day to ask how he was doing. I really appreciate that any time my dog needs some type of medication or new food, they always walk me through all of the potential options, instead of just recommending the most expensive one like many vets do. I will continue to trust them with my fur baby.

This place is amazing. My cat has had bladder issues twice this month, and with a new animal at a new vet, I was pretty nervous. Their staff was incredibly kind and welcoming. This morning I had to take him in, got him sorted with meds, but a few hours later he wasn't doing too well. After I called them with a million questions, they asked us to bring him back in just to double check. They answered all of my many questions about what to do for my cat and did not charge us for the second visit. You can tell that these folks go out of their way to make sure you are informed and that your animal has a calm experience. The level of service they have provided makes me feel as though my concerns about an animal I care so much about are genuinely their concerns as well. I cannot thank this staff enough for all the help they have given me with my little guy.

Wow, we had such a great experience! The staff was so friendly and professional! My daughter just rescued a cat and we took him in because he was sneezing frequently. They did a thorough check on him and were so kind and compassionate with him. They let my daughter ask a million questions and took their time in answering them all. They told us to call anytime if we had any questions! They will definitely be Archie’s forever vet office!

Super friendly staff and extremely flexible having a new puppy is a stressful time especially when the little thing turns you into a hypochondriac. They have been extremely flexible with me calling and being able to see her same day or the next day. Highly recommend.

The doctors and others who work on your pet are great! There is one receptionist who isn't the nicest and who forgot to put in an appointment I booked over the phone. I was put off a little by her rudeness, which is disappointing since I've loved their vet for the past year. I highly recommend this vet, but if you speak with this woman please know the rest of the staff isn't like that!

My husband and I are taking care of our son's fifteen year old cat while he attends a wedding out of town. Morris is hyperthyroid and her age is causing her some problems. This morning she seemed weak and wobbly to me. In tears I called Veterinary Associates. As soon as I said Morris, they knew who I was calling about, and I was able to get her in within the hour. Since my husband is allergic to cats and dogs, we have never had either. So I sure felt out of my league. Janet took us to a room and was incredibly kind as I explained through my tears my worries. Dr. Carlson then came in and took her to an examination room to give her fluids and an antibiotic. When he returned, he gently and carefully explained what we needed to do and how to do it. He said, "If it were my cat, I'd treat her this way." He put my heart at ease. I feel so lucky that we drew such wonderful people to help us make the best decisions possible.

These guys are awesome! They worked me in immediately as a new customer when my dog was having some issues. They also called to their other location to find an appointment when my cat was having issues and they didn't have any openings at the Iowa City location. Friendly service, and they took excellent care of my animals.

Great Team. I’ve called several vet clinics before being referred to them. I was nervous as a time dog owner. Heather made me feel so much better. While my Princesss Bee was being seeing, the doctor answered all my questions and was very patient.

If I could give this place a zero I would. They went back to curbside pick up for office visit and the newest employee Abby came out and reached right for my dog without letting him sniff her to know it’s safe. Leo cried in fear. She wasn’t close enough to feel his fur yet and she lied and said he bit her. She stayed she was going to get a muzzle and I said” I don’t like that”. With a snooty voice she said “well I’m not getting bit”. I said “I will not be doing business here “and walked away. I called the vet office to tell them about my experience Tracy was wonderful and showed concern to my experience. The next lady who got on the phone stated that Abby said he bit her which again was not true. She no longer cared what I had to say. If you could go to any other vet I advice you to bc your pet is not safe with the newest staff.

Even a couple months after we've moved away and they know they won't get any new business from us, they still have sent updated scripts as long as they could, emailed more documents when we needed them (not like they had to), and still are great on the phone. It'll be a pain finding a new place but for 2.5 years they were a very solid piece that we knew our pets were good with (multiple regular visits, and a surgery, all worth it and done spectacularly).

Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Dr. Nyren takes the time to answer my questions. They're not so over-booked that I can bring my dog in if she's having any problems between her annual check-ups. The staff does a great job of making my dog (and me!) feel at ease.

I called Veterinary Associates in the middle of a snow storm on a Monday at 3pm and told them my regular vet is about 30 minutes away but my cat is very sick.They got me in last minute, had excellent bed side manner, and my cat (who doesn't come out when people are around) was friendly to the vet tech.They explained everything that was happening with my cat (my regular vet told me they would need to keep him over night, possibly for a few days) and had us totally taken care of right away.Because I was there last minute I was unprepared for the bill and they helped me set up a payment plan.Best of all: they emailed me after a day had passed to check on my cat.I'm going to be going to Veterinary Associates from now on.

I could not have possibly had a worse experience -- when I moved to Iowa City, I already knew that my cat had thyroid disease, and it was increasingly obvious that her symptoms were getting worse. The Drs at Veterinary Associates refused to do anything about it, chalking it up to "old age" and nothing more. When I went to a new vet, they did the same bloodwork they did at VA and saw we needed to up her medicine dosage 5X! This was entirely a matter of neglect, and they didn't take action simply because she is an older cat. If you can go anywhere else, I would highly suggest that you do.

Dr Carlson is a great vet, doesn't recommend pricey products or foods your dog doesn't really need. The techs are all very helpful and friendly, they're very easy to talk to and get clear helpful answers about concerns with your pup.

This is the only place I will take my dogs after trying several local vets. Dr. Carlson is very straightforward about pricing and has always worked with me to determine what's necessary vs precautionary before doing anything so I don't get charged for a bunch of random things I can't understand.

They have two locations that I know of. One near highway 6 and the other near the east side. I believe it is actually called East Side Pet Clinic. The staff here is very friendly, and it is pretty easy to get in and make appointments. We've been with them for about 6 months now with our Mastiff.
