Went in to adopt a dog for someone, and they were fantastic. The USDA oversees Petland, so the pets they get are coming from safe environments. The staff was fabulous. Alisha was helping us and washelpful and very knowledgeable.

If I could, I would give this place lower than a one star rating. Just because a place is monitored by the USDA does not mean anything many regulators & incidences slipped through the cracks. Not to mention they source from a puppy mill. If only the public would do their research, they would know where these dogs. In fact come from. Google puppy mill and you will see the condition these “well taken care of” dogs come from. SHOPPING HERE SUPPORTS PUPPY MILLS ANS BACKYARD BREEDERS. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!

We adopted our first puppy together and couldn’t been any more happier!! We adopted Zeus in Saturday and he is such a cute little guy, this place was great at helping us find our perfect pet and customer services was great! I loved how they give you many supplies for the first days. Very happy with my experience with them!!

I love this place!! My partner and I adopted a puppy from this place a few months ago and I’ve never regretted it! Ranger is a perfectly healthy and happy puppy, and with his adoption came A LOT of stuff! I’m talking breath aid, food, crate, health aids, shampoo, toys, and more! So the price may be steep but keep in mind of all of the stuff you get along with your happy puppy! All the puppies come from high quality breeders and the first few vaccines are covered!! I will never get a puppy from anywhere else!

We got our beautiful black merle Cocker Spaniel Joey at Petland. We were impressed by how happy and well cared for all their puppies were and how clean the store was. The woman who helped us was warm and friendly. They sent us home with everything we needed for our new little guy. Joey is healthy and happy and fun, but also calm and smart. He’s just a sweetheart. He slept through the night from the first night. We couldn’t be more pleased with Petland and Joey. My cousin got her Maltipoo at Petland and Rosie also has been a great little pup. I couldn’t recommend Petland more highly.

I got a few fish last week one of the more vibrant ones I wanted was chewing on one that died. I asked the employee is it sick and what happens if it becomes sick? The employee said I could return it for another fish in exchange. This was for a work fish tank and I didn’t work over the weekend so now it’s been 3 days (Monday) and they won’t accept my fish died somewhere in the last two days even though it was sick when I bought it.

Super disappointing if you want to do anything but buy dogs. Waited 30 minutes with no help. Just want crickets! I didn't mind the first time. I assumed something was up. Felt like I was being actively avoided today. :(

Buyer Beware! I am giving them 2 stars only because the staff was friendly. However I will I share, I am very disappointed in this process.After looking at the puppy, I was told I could check my credit to see if I qualified to buy the puppy. I was told the price of the puppy and saw the interest rates and decided no thank you. I decided to not purchase the puppy and walked away. I was told as I said no, I could not find another dog cheaper there $5800 dog. This was normal cost for Bernese Mountain Dog. This is very incorrect, local breeders who are AKC registered have the dogs for 3k less.After I got home the next day I receive an email where I was told my Petland credit card is on the way. I did not authorize this as I know that would affect credit ratings. Nor do I have a dog! I was just seeing to see if I was approved originally. I called the store and there is nothing I can do, but wait for the card to call and cancel it. Even though I did not authorize wanting one. They knew that the night I left!Additionally the other reason I walked away was during looking at her I was told she was AKC registered when I asked. I specifically asked so I could make sure I was not supporting a puppy mill. I then after receiving the paperwork for her I saw she was ACA registered. Big difference, google it. Very different breeding practices. I was told by the staff its practically the same thing. I suggest doing your research before even walking in there! Very unethical business practices!

So awesome getting to play with all the puppies! I loved all of them. The only sucky part of that place is how ridiculously expensive their puppies are, it doesn't seem necessary to charge that much for a puppy, plus it's probably a better idea to go to an animal shelter to adopt a homeless dog before it gets euthanized. Shelter dogs can be just as great if not better than raising a puppie and they really need homes.

The employees were really awesome! I took my niece 3 times in one week and it's all she wanted to do 😂 There was a guy there who also got out the tarantula and let us hold it! 😬😲😜😁 We held the bunnies, a kitten, a tarantula, a snake, guinea pigs, the chameleons, looked at fish! If your kid likes animals, this is the place!

I love coming here and interacting with all the critters! There really isn't much to do around here so it's nice to have a place like this where you can come and meet some puppies, ferrets, hamsters, snakes, chameleons or the occasional frog. The workers have always been very kind and welcoming!

Tucker got a free toy today from peatland when we went to go get his dog food. We always go there to get his large puppy breed sciencediet because it’s reasonably priced and if you buy 10, you get the 11th free.

We come in here whenever we have a little extra time to see the puppies. Today we got talked into holding a snake. The gentleman wouldn't take no for an answer! Made me feel very relaxed and helped me face a fear. Update, these guys are still so friendly and helpful. We love coming in to play with the pups

My husband drove an hour to Petland in Iowa city to buy me a Boston Terrier puppy I saw advertised the day before. My Boston baby passed away and he knew it would make me happy and I fell in love with this little ones face. He spent time with the puppy and an associate was in the process of working on his financing paper work when another associate sold the dog to someone else. My husband is not one to make a scene. But what a terrible experience!! Don't these associates talk to each other or have a policy in place so this doesn't happen?? After hours he left empty handed, to tell me they sold the puppy out from under him. The manager did reach out and leave a message asking if there was anything they could do. Like what for example? Give us the dog we were in the process of buying. You snooze you lose I guess.

This was probably one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. Me and my Fiancé had went in to look at puppies on 10/9 and struggled to even get help to see a puppy. We finally got to see one and when we were done there was no one around. I had to leave and go find someone and when I approached her and asked for help she glared at me and said nothing. We left right after. There was also poop all over the kennels. Safe to say we will not be returning.

We had a great experience picking up our new pup. Hannah and Taylor were very knowledgeable and helpful. Every item we received along with the pup was great. So many additional resources included as well! The new renovations are fabulous. The store looks very homey and inviting. Looking forward to making many more trips!

The place was very clean. The staff was super friendly they were knowledgeable about the breed questions. They make sure you leave with all the supplies and support you need in the form of training. So for a first time puppy owner this is probably nice not to have to worry about. That being said I am sure you could shop around and get it cheaper. There puppies are very expensive one of the mixed breeds me and my daughter was going to cost 6000. That's They offer a payment plan on there puppies. Which is a nice feature if you are spending a substantial amount.

Bought the doughnut treats today and found a maggot on one of them. Cashier told me that they just got them in earlier in the day. Never going to Iowa City Petland again.

Not cheap in any aspect. The dog they sold me was $2,000 and it ended up being deaf with bladder problems they obviously do not care about the welfare of their animals just making sales. Puppy classes are the same every Sunday, and cover the same stuff. The class was helpful but it would be pointless to go to a second one. Exceptional staff, but they will encourage you to buy unnecessary product. All of their animals are at least two times if not three times what they should actually be asking. I've heard they buy from puppy mills and it would honestly make complete sense.

Highly recommend! They definitely have their stuff together, very organized process. It was a great experience to work with Petland and Isabel from start to finish and we just love our newest family member! She is a happy, healthy pup and truly amazing! Petland included everything we needed to take our new baby girl home. We will definitely be back!

Very bad employees very rude and forgetful of customers and always understaffed, and how they treat the animals and not checking water and food like they should is not an ok environment for any of the animals there i go there quite often but i wouldn't recommend the pets there :/

wow after I say I bought some fish that were sick you continue to tell me that I have to cycle the tank omfg they are in a 29 gallon tank that has been up for several years so don't try to convince me that I'm doing something wrong when you sold me sick fish so stop acting like you know what you are talking about there is one huge spot on the neon tetra that is the Ich you are selling people sick fish along with Petco and PetSmart

Our dog Benji passed away this weekend. We bought our new dog here. His name is Carl, I couldn't help myself I already named him I'm going to try to post this picture and you will see how beautiful he is, Petland is awesome...
