They had what I needed for painting one of rooms. Also there was a sale on paint samples which made it a lot more affordable to be able to find the perfect color to match our needs. It took about 10-15 to get the samples mixed but after that we paid and were on our way. We also were able to enjoy free and fresh popcorn while we waited. #FreePopcorn #Popcorn #Painting

Some staff are very knowledgeable, but some lack hustle. I ordered online and went to pickup my order, walked around to checkout (the pickup desk was blocked w plants and other merchandise) told them my name and pickup and had my order number read and waited for 12 minutes by checkout while staff helped other customers.No one brought my order up, so I got back in line and repeated my request to the new cashier. They did a good job and pulled my order from the back themselves.I want to support local businesses and jobs but this is not a compelling experience.

I visited this store looking for a very obscure product that could not be found or ordered at Menard's, Lowe's, or Walmart: Cord to restring my blinds. Lenoch & Cilek has an exceptional choice of cord, string, and rope.Upon entering the store, I was greeted and assisted immediately (but without any unwanted "hovering"). My child and I were walked to the correct aisle at my request and--miraculously!--presented with tight-woven, non-stretch, round cross-section, white, 5/32" valence cord. We paid and made it back to the car before my six-year-old had time to start touching things or disturbing displays.

Call and asked what they had in stock in terms of key blanks to save myself a trip, was told they had what I wanted in stock, I got there they didn’t have it, they told me to go to the other store. The other store didn’t have it either so I spent an hour driving for no reason. Will not be returning.

they had the part I needed, one starthey put it aside for me, another starI said I couldnt get the old part out. they offered no help. lose a star.I asked if there were instructions inside for removing the old part. I was told: “no probably not” still offered no help, lose a star.Finally, the other clerk suggested a hammer. lose a star.as I was getting my change the first guy told the other guy: “now let me get back to my story.” Is it fair to remove a previous star?Why do you go to Ace instead of a big box store? Because they help you. well, they used to. Sad to lose my neighborhood store because I wont go back

I love local hardware stores. There's always something you need that you can't find in big box stores, like Lowes and Home Depot.6/3/2023: It's still great to walk to a local place and get a replacement screw, some washers, a shim, a 24 oz of Roundup, a conduit clamp, etc.

I rated this ok because it is a bigger store but the associates weren't that helpful. Ive been to a different location and felt the staff there was assertive, helpful and knowledgeable. Then as I checked out, I had purchases 4 things with also my wallet and phone in my hand. He didn't bag my items and instead watched me struggle to grab everything and leave as there was people behind me so I didn't want to keep holding them up.

When we moved our daughter into her apartment, her loft bed wouldn’t fit! I headed to Ace and was met with a great deal of help! An extremely helpful gentleman led us around back to the shop area (even helped me carry the loft bed) and used a saws all to fix the problem. Super nice, did a great job and very humble. I would refer Ace to friends. Small town feel in a large city - wonderful!

What can I say about Lenoch & Cilek! Having grown up in Iowa City have used them for over 50 years. If we ever needed anything in our family they were they place to go. I remember them for always providing fantastic customer service! I purchased a Ice Melt Spreader last year and the cable sized up and wouldn’t move. I called to ask for any help or suggestions? What did they do? THEY REPLACED IT!!! Totally unexpected! Thanks again for all your help! Keep up the good work! Will always see you for my needs?Eliot Jones

I brought my home door locks in on a Saturday to get them re-keyed. After asking what I meant by "re-keying" the locks, the associate then declared that my old key (which I brought to help them reset the pins) would not fit in them ... until he tried to actually fit it (big surprise, it worked!).Associate: "Huh, it works. Well, come back tomorrow, or else you can leave them overnight and we'll call you when they're done on Sunday."Well that would be great, except I needed to be able to lock my doors that night because guess what, I sleep in my home, and I have this troublesome habit of locking my doors!I was then told that the guy who normally does the keys & locks was not there on that day. When I asked if there was anyone else who could do it I was told the following: "We're really busy right now, and I'm not going to pull someone off of something else to do this." Interesting side note, of the ~20 total parking spaces out front (summertime, the garden center covers the other half of the lot, grand total of maybe 40 spaces otherwise?), there were 5 parked vehicles, including my own. And when I walked in, I was the only customer at the front desk for this entire exchange.Maybe they had a couple dozen weekend warriors running amok in the back, but I guess I'll never know because I will not return to this location at Dodge St & Church St. again.Feel free to make your own decision about whether or not to come here, but I went to the Ace Hardware location on Mall Drive on the other side of town, where they courteously took care of my request, and I'd recommend that others do the same or else go to different hardware stores (Paul's, Lowe's) entirely.

Ace web site shows the item I want in stock at this store. Drive to the store, item not there. Employee, upset at being expected to do his job even though I politely waited for him to finish his personal conversation, says, "If it's not on the rack, it's not here. I might have some on Friday." Walks off without bothering to check or even asking if I need anything else. Not sure if they track inventory poorly or just treat customers poorly, but I won't be back to find out.

Wonderful place to go for any tools or hardware. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I asked on guy for magnetic clasps and he told me from the top of his head isle 17 3/4 of the way down in the bottom drawer of the black container. It was kinda crazy. I love going to ace.

This is one of the worst Ace Hardware's I've ever been to. We were greeted at the door with a smile and a "Welcome to Ace" but this is the only positive experience we had here. Not once were we asked what we were looking for, eventually we found the nuts and bolts isle on our own. The prices for this hardware was outrageous! The Ace back home where we are from, the hardware would be 1/2 the price. Upon checking out, employees were talking/gossiping to another customer blocking the isle to the register. I would not recommend coming here.

Not always, but that's not why you're going, right? Just grab your random item you forgot to pick up, pet the cats, say hi to John, and move along.If you go in enough times, they'll remember your name and the projects you force your husband to do & isn't that the point of life?

When I entered the location I was Immediately helped by an associate who directed me to the person that could assist me with my issue. When I told the associate my issue he immediately pointed out a possible solution for my problem. Overall I really enjoyed my visit, I would come back to this location if I'm in town because the employee seemed extremely helpful.

This place has the worst customer service of the 2 stores in Iowa City. I dropped a screen off for repair over 2 months ago and it still is not finished, and everytime I call I get the run around and put on hold and nobody ever returns to the phone. Called 3 weeks ago and was told my screen would be finished next week and still have not heard.
