I have always shopped at Hyvee. I love their variety and freshness of produce. Their meat counter is fantastic. The employees are incredible with the knowledge of the store. Make sure you have the PERKS card to save the most.

Another aspect of the monopoly food and Everything store. I have worked at several, for less than a livable wage, doing boring back and knee breaking work, no benefits. That said, during covid they ALL began closing at 11 (formerly main grocery store was open 24 hr). They never changed back. Both local WalMarts followed suit, so the whole town, including Coralville, is a food desert 11 PM to 5:30AM. Really screws over 3rd Shift workers. We like to be able to cook and eat food, too, during our non-work waking hours.... They also started hiring Armed guards, and replacing human jobs with that pervasive and aggravating surveillance-state technology, the self checkout challenge. We can't be trusted not to steal or risk getting shot, then why do they trust us to do their former human employees jobs, checking ourselves out, Slowly. Then bagging it as well. Believe it or not, it takes some knowledge/method to bag food correctly to keep from breaking glass or bags, crushing your bread and produce, melting your frozen goods, or cross contaminating things that are served uncooked with possibly leaky meat products. Not every shopper has this skill, especially if in a hurry and forced to use damned machine or wait in line forever for the single human cashier to be available. Also, Hy Vee advertises on Big Signs in stores that if the product doesn't ring up the same price as is posted on the shelf, you get it free. Happens, to me at least, All the Time, usually on items that I'm only buying because of sale price or in store advertising and not worth driving back later, if I have the receipt, to argue with single, overworked person in Customer Service over it and look/feel petty. They make their unfair profit, unchecked, every time I (and Everybody else buying that product that day) don't notice the disparity, but shift managers will argue that they wont or don't have that policy, or only on certain low-cost items when I spot the difference and return to buy, say 20 lbs of apples for $1.50/lb that all ring up non sale price of $3/lb. They're profiting deceptively on the other hundreds of lbs of apples that they sell until they change the register price! Also, they changed their Fuel Saver program to much less of a possible discount (I used to get all my gas free, fairly easily, stocking up on certain items, wine brands, with $0.25/gal Fuel Saver discounts, or $5 on 20 gal of gas for EACH $7/bottle of wine, and it made me feel good and keep shopping at Hy Vee...I spent hundreds of dollars a month there, every month. No longer, since they embarrass me by arguing about the policy and acting like I'm stealing from them or something for following Their advertised policy. Just saying: be wary, and watch your screens closely as you check yourself out, then bag and carry all your stuff to your vehicle alone. Or go to Fareway, where they have better prices and "bag boys" to help you carry everything and help you load it in your car. It's a big deal, especially for elderly and infirm, and it's just a nice thing to do, teaches youth and reminds aged to be thankful for each other and the help we Could be giving each other, in the small act of human to human kindness while doing something as universal as feeding ourselves. Big monopolies erode this empathy in their relentless quest for greater profits over better serving their customers. If you are sharp-eyed, you can almost See how it erodes the mortar holding society together, extrapolated to 300 million or a billion people. Or 8 billion. Small human kindnesses and empathy are exactly what keep us human, not profit-minded corporate entities that would ultimately rather have their (armed, now) food theft guards kick someone's butt for being hungry and poor at the same time, than hurt Their bottom line. They'd be fired if they didn't. That's corporate business for you!(Gasp!)Peace. Be kind to each other.

We used Hyvee on Waterfront for our florals at our backyard tent wedding. NICOLE IS AMAZING. She brought our green and white minimalist vision to life. We cannot thank her enough for her flexibility, as our venue changed at the height of the pandemic. THANK YOU for your artistry!

My go to for grocery stores, they have good options at good prices. They often have excellent deals on sodas as well, not much else to say, to be honest.

when you advertise the gift cards the ones that are not included should be in a different spot you lost out on 300 dollars in gift cards sales because every other one I chose was not included in your black Friday deal I probably won't ever shop at Hy-Vee again

It has taken 4 days and trips to this store to get an insulin order only partially filled. My spouse waited in line about 25 minutes each visit to be told it either was out of stock or the shipment had not arrived or the order had not been prepared. She phoned and they did not pick up, so really this is all the result of them not answering their phone. Four trips and more than 2 hours wasted -- driving and waiting -- because they couldn't pick up the phone or be honest, and that's not counting the trip she will need to make again tomorrow for the unfilled portion of the order. If they're short-staffed or there is a supply problem, they need to be honest with the customer and STOP WASTING THE CUSTOMER'S TIME. Stop predicting it will be ready when it's not. Answer the phone. We're switching to a different provider, hoping for better treatment, and since we only shop at this store when we're picking up meds, Hy-Vee is losing valuable custom.

The bacon for a bacon cheeseburger was burnt, not very enjoyable. When me girlfriend cut the burger in half, she found a long Grey hair. We will not be coming back.

Hy-Vee is the go to grocery place for both my family and I and I absolutely love the deli food, it is so cool that Hy-Vee has cooks that cook food themselves, it’s really delicious! I’ve never been disappointed in my Hy-Vee groceries or food and trust me, I would tell you if I was because I’m a very honest person!

I can usually find what I'm looking for, but on the off chance that I can't, there are plenty of people willing to help me out. It might not be in every aisle, but there still is a helpful smile. The Starbucks at Waterfront, employed by Hyvee, have some of the best batistas in town!

Overpriced. Most items no longer qualify fuel saver program. Location seems well staffed, yet many check out lanes are closed. Lack of diversity in items for such a large store. Found expired items on shelves on several occasions. Wish Hy-Vee didn’t have such a stranglehold on the grocery market of Iowa.

We have problems with the pharmacy all the time, I will call my refill in 2 days prior to picking it up and it won't be ready, I have also had it where they are out of my type of medication and they order it but it never comes in. I'm just dissatisfied so I'm switching to irl, much better never have problems there.

Tried their Thursday steak dinner $10 deal. It was very overcooked and tough the 2 sides hadn't been regularly stirred and were crusty and covered in an overbaked film. The layout of the store is overly complicated with way too many turns and twists. But the selection of products was good.

Stopped in for a few quick things and the customer service was amazing. I needed help with figuring out where a product was and a manager named Haley was so friendly and took me right to the product. Definitely will be coming back again.

Really nice store. Well designed, clean and well stocked. I'm from Davenport and will say this one has a much better selection then my local Hyvees.

the self checkout is the most frustrating part of my shopping experience. i always have fantastic customer service at the delicatessen or if i need help finding an item but as soon as i go to check out, i get nothing but attitude. i never buy a lot of groceries at once and i sometimes don’t feel like talking to someone in a checkout line so i opt for self check out. there is never a time i’ve gone there and the check out process has been smooth. either they don’t take cash at any of the stations or some lady is watching every move i make way too close to my personal bubble. as someone in the service industry, majority of my income is cash, and it’s convenient to pay that way when i need to pick up a few things. the lady who runs self check out is rude and extremely unhelpful. she treats everyone as if they are children and takes over the self check out experience, grabbing items from my cart for me and over explaining how to use the system. i have been buying groceries for myself since i was 18. it’s frustrating and an invasion of my privacy. i understand that someone has to watch over so there’s no theft, obviously. but when i go to any other hyvee or target or even walmart, i do not have this experience. this location needs some major tlc from management and some training on customer service.

This is a review not for Hyvee itself but for Connor in the pharmacy at the Waterfront Drive location in Iowa City. Connor was not able to fulfill my prescription today for my dog, as I did not bring in the correct paperwork. Connor did his best to contact the specialist that prescribed the medication and was unable to get ahold of them due to them being closed all week for the holiday. Connor immediately called me, summoned me back into the store and explained the entire situation to me. I feel as if he went above and beyond what was expected of him. Please acknowledge Connor and make sure he receives accolades for this. He seems like a really great man. Give him a raise.

Eh. I go here because its close to home and easiest for me to use my wic benefits, I have a favorite employee in every department and the aisles are always clean and well organized. With that being said, the restrooms are normally disgusting... like really bad. Some of the younger kids really seem lost and costumer service folks are normally just standing around. Management is horrible. Crystal Guzman has horrid communication skills, it results in everyone being flustered when she comes around because her demeanor and tood is literally that bad. It's "A helpful smillee in every aisleee" not a mean mug around every corner.

I am actually shocked that this hyvee has such a high rating. It's prices are higher than the others in town. Their selections are very limited, and they're unwilling to order products in even if you offer to buy your entire case. The Orange guard has made me not even check there at all because I feel completely unsafe. Most of their bakery items are not good. The donuts pretty good, the French and Italian bread is good, your angel cake is also good. Their cakes are done of the worst I've ever had. They're muffins, brownies, and cookies are ok. You are better off making your own or heading to the coop for baked goods. Their vegetarian and vegan selections are really lacking.

I've had mixed experiences at the Waterfront HyVee. I got there often, because they are one of the few stores around that caries a wine I like. All HyVees have relatively high prices on groceries...but beer and wine is priced competitively. And most sales are decent buys. But they are OFTEN out of products that are in their ads. I can't figure out if they were out of an advertised item today (Curly's BBQ ribs) or not. I asked two people where they were, including a guy stocking cases in prepared meats and a meat counter employee, telling them that the product was in the current ad. Neither could tell me where they were. I thought maybe I was wrong about the add, but I came home & double-checked it. I was right. Years ago, when I worked retail, all employees were asked to reviews the ads and know where the items were located.

This was an attractive, clean, and orderly store, with polite and friendly staff. It was a delight to visit. I will make it a habit.

Blond young woman working customer service very rude. She wouldn't even sell me a few dollars of quarters and was not helpful. Her name started with an M. Poor customer service, she would be better off working in the back. She was so rude I didn't even get my groceries. I went to a different chain, got quarters, and good customer service.

Went there during my lunch hour today and waited 25 min for a burger and fries. Sat down at a table that had a sign that said it had been sanitized. There were enough crumbs on the table that said it was not sanitized. The women's restroom was disgusting. I asked to speak to a manager. The manager's customer service skills were so lousy that I can promise you I will NEVER go in that store again.
