My husband and I love this ice cream place in Ankeny. They have lots of great ice cream flavors and the pistachio is one of my favorites. Their scoops are huge and there is plenty indoor and outdoor seating. I love that they also give free pup cups with pup treats! Our doggo got to enjoy good ice cream and cool off on a warm day with us!

What a yummy surprise. The servings we received were huge. Double what we expected and so yummy. I can't wait to visit again the next time I'm in Iowa. Coming from the Lancaster Co. PA area in pretty spoiled with ice cream. Hard to impress me but the Outside Scoop definitely did. Sorry I forgot to take photos of my ice cream. I love the White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake ice cream and it happens to be on their constant 12 flavors. Glad I don't live closer.

Ran in to this food truck in Windsor heights and it was amazing!They had everything from basic flavors to original unique ice cream. Looked them up online and they use all natural ingredients I'm sure which is huge because a lot of place don't. Overall I'd recommend getting a single scoop, that was just enough.

Great spot for that quick sweet treat! All the ice creams were creamy and smooth! I got the Lavender Lemon, it was creamy, smooth, a bit or tartness from the lemon, and a hint of floral notes from the Lavender. It was not perfumey at all. It had lemon cookie crumbles that gave it a great texture too.

Fresh, handmade, in house delicious ice creams. Wonderful service and friendly staff. This place is small. Way small. If you are coming during busy hours expect a crowded line and possibly eating your ice cream in your car. But absolutely nothing I would change about the place.Keep up the good work.

The ice cream is fine and there a few bougie flavors like lavender, goat cheese and cherries, and keto iterations of the classics, but it made me sad to eat an ice cream cone that's been pushed scoop side down in a bowl, to pay 7 bucks for that scoop, only for the ice cream to be more memorable for the aforementioned than for its taste.That said, the ice cream itself is perfectly fine. I tried vanilla when I visited. It's a blunt take on vanilla- a dense ice cream with mild creaminess and mild vanilla intensity. In my opinion, a killer vanilla works when there's a soft, almost buttery mouth feel, a freshness to the cream, and most of all a vanilla with enough complexity to balance the sugar. They haven't yet achieved that here.And god, cone in a bowl hurts my heart.Bottom line: If you're rich, aren't a huge ice cream buff, need ice cream to live, and/or hate ice cream cones, you'll probably enjoy it. If not, skip it. At least for now.

Our first time we went to the one in Ankeny & we both LOVED our shakes, I don’t remember what we got but very good Ice cream & service.Tonight we went to the one out here in Indianola I got a White Chocolate Caramel Cheesecake storm (which is like a blizzard)& I added graham crackers to it, it. Was. Phenomenal. My husband got a chocolate Oreo cookie dough shake & he said it was also Phenomenal.Both shops very very good experiences 10/10 !!

Love the ice cream! Some flavors are quite unique! My favorites were Dutch Letter, and also Goat Cheese w/Roasted Cherries! My husband loved Butter Pecan, and also Maple Bacon! All of the employees are so friendly and helpful!

I have been going to The Outside Scoop since I was little. Never have I been disappointed. Its a great family experience, a fun place to just sit and chill (ha), and the Ice cream is homemade and delicious. I seriously recommend stopping by. It's a cozy home town place that's just comfortable and familiar.Love this place, you guy are never a let down!!

If you’re looking for quality ice cream and awesome customer service, this is the place! The shop is absolutely adorable. All of the ice cream is homemade right in the store, and there are so many unique flavors, including Goat Cheese and Roasted Cherry, Dutch Letter, and Blackberry Honey Flake, just to name a few. The homemade waffle cones are incredible as well, well worth what you pay for them. It can be very busy, sometimes even a line out the door, but the employees do an amazing job keeping up and are very friendly. What you get is well worth the wait! Keep up the awesomeness, Scoop!

This is my new favorite ice cream place! I ordered a medium cone of goat cheese and cherry ice cream for about $6 and it was delicious. Like the ice cream, the cones are also homemade. I also tried the pickle ice cream, and I loved that one, too. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. I highly recommend this place 👍😊

This place is truly one of a kind. By far, the absolute best ice cream in the state, probably the world. The friendly staff, the wonderful atmosphere, and of course the flavors truly set this shop apart from anything else you've ever tried. Small batch, handcrafted artisan style ice cream right here in Iowa minutes south of the metro. The best ingredients and the freshest products every single day. I love The Outside Scoop. Unique flavors! Mom and pop feel, with huge flavor profile. I mean who else has Dutch Letter ice cream?? And it's good. Want something classic.. they have that covered too. The only place I'd buy a pint from.

One of the worst ice cream places i have ever been to. People were rude. Ice cream was terrible. Even my 11month old daughter spit it out. Ice cream cones taste like cardboard. Customer service was horrible. Stood outside for 25min just to be disappointed. I grew up with fun and welcoming ice cream shops. This one was quick to take my money and have us leave without even a hello. If i could give it 0 stars i would. Absolutely would not recommend

Just went for the first time yesterday... wow, was I missing out! Customer service is incredible. The atmosphere is fun and clean, and the ice cream flavors are wonderfully unique and delicious. I am still dreaming about my ice cream from yesterday! I will be showing all guests that come to Ankeny this gem!

I went when I was in town for training for work. Everyone went as a group as a recommendation from our trainer. The ice cream is fantastic! They have many unique flavors including one made with goat cheese. It would be awesome, though, if they had one or two non dairy flavors. The last time I was there I happened to be on a dairy-free stint because I was nursing my youngest who had a dairy allergy.
