I've been going to this vet since it was originally Ballard Vet Clinic and have always had a great experience with Dr. May. When I heard they were going through a transition to Midland Prairie Vet Services, I was a little nervous that they would lose the "small town vet feel". I was totally wrong. Our dog had to have an emergency visit this week and was seen by Dr. Meredith (who we'd never met before). She was truly amazing and made our emergency visit as comfortable as possible. She even took our dog home with her for the evening to keep an eye on her, which meant the world to us. This office definitely still has the small town vet feel and we couldn't be happier!

Dr. May is a great Veterinarian. Our dog puts up a fight every time he has to get nails trimmed. He is very patient with Roscoe and his shenanigans. Everyone there is pretty great.

I just wanted to bring to your attention that your sign appears to be a bit racist, if not just outright distasteful and rude. Not sure if this was your intention or not, but I would definitely recommend changing it. You can thank the veterans without blatantly disregarding German and Japanese immigrants/families in the US, or native/learned speakers of those languages. I just got a new puppy. Took him in for the doctor to check him over as I had a concern. Thorugh exam was given. Discussed process and followup for next visit. Received call for a checkup if problems and some meds. Great care.

My dog developed sn eye problem. I called and Dr. Meredith was able to see us right away. She was very thorough and her diagnosis cleared Macy’s eye up in a matter of days. I’m so excited to have her in Huxley!

We take our pup to Ballard Vet Clinics due to the recommendation of a friend. The staff have NEVER disappointed! Always so friendly and excited to see my dog and they never make me feel bad for having millions of questions and concerns. They get you in last minute if you have an emergency and are so accommodating. I’m so happy my dog gets such good care with Dr. May and his staff at this clinic!

We have gone to the Ballard Vet Clinic for years, ever since Dr. May took over the practice. I could not be happier with the service. After reading other reviews, I am rather confused as to other people's experiences. Mary has always been overly friendly and helpful to both my husband and myself, regardless if I am bringing in our dog or cats for a routine visit, stopping in for flea meds, or calling to inquire about when pets are due for annual visits. Dr. May is a great vet and has an obvious love and care for animals. When my first cat was not acting right, I called the clinic to find it was closed. The after hours voicemail offers Dr. May's personal cell phone, so I was able to text and call him. He even asked me to send him a video of what my cat was doing and was then able to refer me to a 24-hour clinic once we determined that there was a somewhat serious issue happening. Prices are very comparable to any other vet in the area and I have found are even quite a bit less expensive than other Iowa vets after speaking with friends in the Carroll, IA area. Highly recommend!

I have been with this vet for four years! They are always very accommodating. Even though staff is short at times they are very flexible I have had two "emergencies" and I was able to get an appointment that day for treatment. Prices are very reasonable. Outstanding service! I am sad that I will be moving out of state in the next year I hope I can find the same passion and care in my new town.

All I can say is that Dr Ken is the one of the most personal and caring Vet along with affordable rates ! He always takes the time to explain every detail on your pets issue and how to help take care of them.Plus his staff is just as caring and loving to your pets ! Wish other Veterinarian had his caring and loving ways instead of thinking of the almighty dollar ! His loving ways with your pet or pets is priceless in my eyes.

Been going to this vet for years. We started going to them because we lived down the block. We’ve continued going to them despite moving 40 minutes away because of the care they’ve shown us and our animals. They’re always wonderful about getting us in at the last minute if we’re having an emergency and they genuinely care about our pets. Can not recommend them enough.

Really bummed because this vet would have been real convenient for me to go to. I called the office to see about getting my dog neutered. We'd previously gone to a cheap vet in Des Moines to get our puppies vaccinations. We needed to get him neutered and because the vet we took him to previously does cheap vaccinations, he was booked too far out so we thought we'd take him to a regular vet clinic.The receptionist here was very rude. She sighed after every questioned I answered. She questioned why I wouldn't take my dog to the vaccination vet to get neutered. Sighed some more. Then she said she'd have to call that vet to get his records. I have his records but she wanted actual notes. He only went there to be vaccinated. She just sounded so exasperated to have a new client that I decided that it was probably best to find someone else to care for my dog.

I felt as if I was being an inconvenience by calling their office. Not sure if I will take my dog there now as she didn't give me a good feeling. She (Mary) tried to redirect me to another clinic almost right away after calling. I hope that the vet has a better attitude than his receptionist.

Great experience! Our dog had developed a really badly abscessed tooth and they got him in right away! The price was amazing! We were saving to have his teeth taken care of by a vet in Ankeny but moved to Huxley in the meantime. Ankeny vet wanted $1000+ for the same work that Dr. May did for a fraction of that. They even clipped his nails without us requesting it. My wife and I both could tell that Dr. May CARES about his patients and their owners! He has found a patient for life!

Dr. May and Mary, his administrative assistant, are amazing. He's done more for our pets than any vet I've been to before. He saved the life of Jennie our younger cat, and helped us say goodbye to Smokey, our older cat. We wouldn't go anywhere else.

i take both of my persian cats to see dr may, and have been for years. i willingly drive from des moines to huxley or slater just to see him because he does such a great job with my cats. he doesn’t try to run expensive tests without trying other alternatives first. every time that i have had an issue with my cats, he has been very caring and explains everything. he is extremely knowledgeable and has very fair pricing. i would recommend anyone take their pets to ballard vet clinic!

The receptionist is overworked. Look at the hours and she is covering all of them. That is a problem.Bigger problem is that if you have a cat be sure your appointment is withDr. May. If you have an emergency, go elsewhere.I can take care of a wound better than the care that cost me over 100 dollars.Routine care. Okay. Not good enough.

We moved from Ames, IA to Hutchinson, MN. While in Ames we went to the Huxley Vet Clinic. Now that we have moved we needed a copy of our dog's visits and the clinic would not send them to us. They were a bunch of jerks on the phone and wouldn't send the records to us because it "wasn't common practice". "We only send information to other vets". We haven't found a vet here yet and wanted our records, but they never sent them for us. Do not use this place.

Doc is great with my dog. Other vet couldn't figure out her allergies. Dr. May knew exactly how to deal with the problem.

I find it odd why someone would live in Ames; where they have a huge vet school & animal hospital & tons of vets; but drive 10 miles outside of Ames for vet care. I'm guessing because Jacob (see next review) was really happy with the clinic when they were bringing there pet there.

I agree, the recpetionist should not be in charge of answering the phone if she is soley rude and not helpful. "We're not guna see a pet we've never seen before"...then how the crap do you have a business?
