We left home today without any breakfast and was driving through Guttenburg, Iowa.Throughout my travels I am always looking for a locally owned business to support.Boy did we pick a Winner! My wife and I walked in and looked around for seating and decided to sit at the counter. I was figure if you want to much about a place and its surroundings this is the place to listen. After some conversations with locals and the cook(who happened to be the owner Sue) I decided to jump in the conversation. We were deciding what to order and then we saw what local regular Pete ordered. That was enough for us to order(ShipWreck Omelet ) the same thing plus one pancake. It was delicious!! Well made and very tasty. The pancake put us over the top. Can you see “please”no more.Only Sue and her one employee were working and this place got really busy. (It’s the great food). First Pete’s wife Michelle jumped into help and then my wife Patti jumped in as us men cheered them on.That’s what we love in our travels. Supporting locals and helping out anyway we can. We are so blessed Sue let us help her out. She is a fun, caring person and stressed many times that her customers are family even though no one is related. Doesn’t that say a lot about her! Her helper Libby was also great. She took out order and lots of service with a smile. The only thing is her math did not add up. That’s an inside joke.We could not leave there without taking a picture with these two hard working women. Thanks for letting us have and amazing experience. All our love from DBQ, IA.Jorge and Patti Rangel.Next time I will order that amazing looking French toast!!

9/27/2023. This little local cafe is truly one of a kind. Literally one of the best breakfasts, I've had traveling for years. American fries done perfectly for my liking, but most importantly there was no grease taste to them. Oh and Blackberry preserves, always a plus for me. Cafe was full of locals enjoying breakfast and conversations. The owner was on the grill, which is open to watch. They recognize local suppliers, love that touch. I would drive out of my way to return.

A fun place to eat. We were treated to a lunch from a local car dealer who raved about this place. To our surprise it was really good and very affordable. The cafe is located in what was a service station. A very simple kitchen worked by a chef with excellent cooking skills. Their burgers are big and tasty. Homemade pies and cakes adorn the daily menu with the atmosphere small and friendly. This place boosts the fact that Barack Obama held a press conference there during his presidential campaign and had the pics to prove it. I highly recommend stopping by if in Gutenberg Iowa for lunch or dinner.

My husband & I drove from the Cedar Rapids area up to Pikes Peak/McGregor today. We like to eat at locally owned restaurants. I Googled, and Rausch had mostly Ok reviews . It was busy when we arrived. I saw that as a good sign. As soon as we sat down , I heard two women loudly talking negativity about "road trips and looking at leafs." That people could just go outside and look at leafs. They didn't believe in road trips. The service was slow, but we were not in a hurry . There was only one cook and one waitress . And we were not upset about a short delay. We ordered French toast and egg sausage croissant and juice , both on the menu and no special orders. The cook ( I THINK she was also the owner) she made a mistake on someone's order. She became REALLY upset. Very loudly complaining about not having enough help (totally understandable!) But then she said more than once how although she "appreciates the out of town business" she was too busy & the menu was too much . When she opened 20 years ago it was just Eggs and bacon and now people wanted too many fancy dishes. NOT WELCOMING ! BTW our food was very good. There is no inside bathroom.

A small cafe that doubles in size with charm, friendliness and socialization. We ran into friends, past neighbors from the farm, my cousin and his wife and met new acquaintances. What an enjoyable morning! Not to mention Mike our server, with a sense of humor. We ordered omelets and surely didn't disappoint us. Kudos to the gal behind the scenes in the kitchen too, who keeps things running smoothly. We'll be returning soon.Dennis Kluesner - Joyce Gibbs (author)

We ate early on a Sunday and were able to be seated immediately. The food was solid dinner fare and exactly what I was hoping for. I had the shipwreck omelette and my wife had a croissant sandwich. Both were very good. The service was good and friendly, though on the slower end. The slower pace was a relaxing end to our weekend trip to Guttenberg. We loved the self-serve coffee, which was centrally located in the cafe. We are looking forward to returning the next time we are in the area.Parking: Parking is limited, so plan on parking down the street.

I'm not sure if a better breakfast exists, anywhere! And as a bonus, sometimes it is a lot like a remake of Grumpy Old Men..... you just never know what someone might say next.

It is Sunday morning and 30 minutes since I ordered and no food. While it is not crowded there is only one waitress and 1 cook with 1 small grill.I can't comment on the food yet. At this point..10:30 anything would taste good. I wanted to eat and enjoy a morning walking outside..guess that is not going to happen. SLOW

Very good food, felt it took longer than needed, the cook seemed to have disappeared when our order was placed. The funny part was, the police chief showed up, and his food was brought to him as soon as he sat down. No grudges here.President Obama ate a meal here during his second campaign. The chair he sat in is noted and a newspaper story on the wall gives details. The staff back then recognized the scouting person as having visited a month before the stop.

I really would like to love this place. It gets high marks for atmosphere. My pancakes were gummy, my ham was salty, my scrambled eggs barely met the definition of scrambled, the coffee is too weak to cry out for help.

A calamity of errors landed me in Guttenberg! It was morning and the stomach started to churn. I was delaying breakfast to make up some time from someone else's lack of integrity, so that made me even hungrier. It was just what I was looking for. Friendly, lite and joking atmosphere to counteract the morning with some GOOD FOOD. The shipwreck omelet was great. Coffee was pretty good. Supposedly a former U.S. President ate there and they have a chair with a small plaque on it. Got to see a little something and enjoy a good home style breakfast.

Give it a 3.70 toast was buttered perfect, but the hashbrowns were very plain. Took some time to get the food coffee was nothing special. Omelet was cooked perfect the cheese was just a slab of processed cheese. The vibe was homie and inviting, staff was extremely nice.

Small town diner with home cooked style food. The price of McDonald’s breakfast with way better food and portions! Definitely local place which adds to the experience.

Very good food but we wittnessed the cook also take money and give money back then return to cooking at the grill without washing hands. Then he opened up a sliced piece of cheese.

SLOW. FLIES. Half the menu not available on weekend. Food was tasty but overpriced for a tiny old little roadside place. Wouldn't stop again, would keep driving the extra time to Decorah.
