This store is a must in our town. We have nothing else like it. The staff is knowledgeable and ready to help. The variety they have is fantastic, they have everything. We're blessed to have this store.

Drove from Des Moines to Grinnell to do a custom metal job.. Stopped at ACE to pick up a couple items.. My helper needed to use the restroom but the woman at the front counter said they didn't have one.. A gentleman led us to the supplies we needed and we headed to pay... Woman at front counter was busy on her phone and didn't have time to ring us up. Will avoid this place in the future as time is money when you're on a job 🤔

My shovel broke. Ace shovel says if it fails take the SHOVEL in and receive a new one. Called and made sure this was ok- guy says yes bring it in. I get there and two employees know nothing they call a third, he asks if I have a receipt. No receipt. Asks if I know when I bought it- this year? He demands to know which month letting me know there is six months we've had this year (like I'm dumb). I have no idea. He checks the serial which is the exact same as the new shovel he brings up. He then proceeds to tell me how to use a shovel. At some point I must have gave him a dumb look because at this point I feel belittled and dumb (I do know how to use a shovel) he stops mid talking and informs me that if I don't listen to him tell me how to use a shovel that I will not be getting a new one. Ok? Grinnell Ace Hardware- your employee was rude. He has no right to decide who does and doesn't know how to use a shovel, was it because I am female? Read the sticker on the shovel. Maybe just ask how do you use this shovel and if it's wrong then says this voids warranty BUT under NO circumstance is it his duty to tell me how to do something unless asked. Calling ACE Corp. customer service about this on Monday.

We drove an hour, stopped quick to get close to $1000 in paint and supplies. My pregnant wife was told she could not use the restroom to pee, then when we asked if there was a trash can we could throw an old coffee cup in we were told, “we don’t dispose of others trash.” Well you just lost thousands in buisness. I’m doing an entire remodel and as a general contractor I was hoping to be able to use your store but I’ll just stop at Lowe’s on the way. Really terrible customer service and they just don’t appreciate any of there customers.

I’m not sure I’ve ever been to Paul’s Ace Hardware without being reminded of what a rude, abrasive jerk Paul is. On my most recent visit, I was spending over $100 on two gallons of paint and other paint supplies. After waiting for help for about ten minutes I went to ask someone making keys for help and he said he would be over when finished with the other customer. He wasn’t. He helped at least two other customers before me. Paul walked by me and helped a gentleman that works for the college that arrived after me. In addition to that, he helped several other customers while I stood there waiting. When Paul finally came over to me to mix my paint he said “thank you for waiting your turn” which instantly irritated me. By the time my paint was finished being mixed, several customers had been helped before me and I had waited for approximately 40 minutes. Why wait that long? I love the paint brand sold at Paul’s and I want to support locally. That’s why I’ve bought paint there several times. Today was a good lesson for me that even though I’ve been burnt by this place several times I continued to stick by my convictions of supporting this local business. However, this will be the last time I jump into the fire pit of Paul’s Ace Hardware for a long time.

Rented a 45' boom lift that was missing a license plate and no rear lights, boom was dry, no grease, and made a load, pitched metal on metal sound. At $300.00/day will look it over much better before we leave the store!

ACE needs to be ASHAMED! I went in during the great power outage of 2020! I was needing a item for my generator (drove from Newton to Grinnell to do business somewhere other than my local hardware store) I did find the item I needed however I had to pay with cash or check! I went back home to get the checkbook only to find out that with no power ACE could not give me a Receipt! It ended up not being what I needed. I drive back over today to Grinnell to return it! A Rude Cashier told me I could not return it without a receipt! I explain to her that I have no receipt because ACE had no power! She went and got another employee that was nice (only reason for any stars) she tried to help but the rude one just kept saying “I told you there is nothing that can be done! NO returns without a receipt. The nice one said I needed to come back when the manager is available. All this over a $18.99 item! Thanks ACE

I’ve been in here twice and haven’t had a good experience yet which is sad because most aces are great and I usually seek them.The first time there was some trouble with using the right credit card and at then end they wanted to charge me a $2.00 service fee so I walked out.The second time I went in to order a tool I could only get the right configuration at an ace and the cashier was not friendly didn’t seem like she wanted to help and when I didn’t have my car rewards card she just about refused to use my phone number.I love ace hardware in general but I will not be going back to this one. Drive to Des Moines or go across the street to the lumber yard if you have to.

They had what I needed but weren't very friendly and explained that they "weren"t setup" to take $100 bills. Seriously, how much set up do you need? A conterfit marker is like $2 at Walmart. I wasn't buying a $5 item either. My total was $35. Really, I can' t pay with $100. Just plain silly.

Needed a small item for a project. Asked for help got NONE after waiting ten minutes. Cashier was rude and nasty to me. She asked me the price when I told her it's not my job to know that she wanted to argue with me. Fat girl with short hair no name tag but horrible customer service. Will not shop here again

Had good experiences and not-so-friendly experiences with the help. Uf management is in a good mood you may get a smile. Cashiers always seem great. And as far as the rest of the employees they are always pretty friendly and helpful.

Much better than your average small town hardware store. Paul stocks some of just about everything here and rents out about everything else. Plenty of super helpful and knowledgeable staff will get you what you need and on your way quickly.

Went in looking for a smoke/carbon dioxide detector. The gentleman at the register was very polite and told me exactly where to find them which isle and where to turn and what side to look for them. The price was competitive.

Rented carpet cleaner.Person at store had to clean debris from cleaner before renting.So comes the 29.00 cleaning deposit.If you bring the carpet cleaner in cleaned will get full refund.I personally went over cleaner top to bottom after my son cleaned it.Cleaner than when getting it from store.So take it back son took it in said deposit refunded.Come to find out on online when checking that card account.only 10.00 was refunded.These people are such rip offs Have had issues on past also.Well I am done with them.Dr.Timothy H.Smith

This is such a " super " store ....there's SO many items ,. a great selection of cabinet hardware, paint, cleaning supplies.....you name it !!! And the staff ...? Best service ever !!!
