If you love your ice cream loaded with toppings/mix ins, this is the place to go! They do not skimp, you get what you pay for, and I hope they never change! They also offer rotating flavors of Dole Whip too. They have also partnered with a local baker to provide their delicious bake goods in certain items.Local, family owned business with a convenient drive thru and indoor or outdoor seating.

Such a great place to stop in with your family and grab a frozen treat!We went on opening day and there were a ton of people and the line moved so quickly. The service was great!We got the M&M snowstorm, 3 small cones and a BABY CONE! This was the perfect size for my 3 year old.Add the extra Krunch to your cone and thank me later!We will definitely be back!

A good place to stop by--or drive through--for soft-serve ice cream, mixes, sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, and other similar treats. We tried the Dole flavor of the week; it was tasty. The kid in me was pleased to see that there were mini baseball helmets for sundaes, too! The staff members were friendly, helpful, and answered our questions about menu items. We look forward to returning!

Als Dairy freeze was had a nice outdoor patio, and even some indoor seating, I've been 3 times and definitely plan on going again!they have great ice cream and even better mixes! I highly recommend the grasshopper deluxe!

I got a cookie dough and marshmallow snowstorm, my wife got a cupcake bites and marshmallow snowstorm, and our daughter got a strawberry flavored vanilla cone.The snowstorms were generally good, just not overly special - the cupcake bites, while compelling to look at, didn't actually add much flavor. I'm thinking that the strawberry flavoring that they added to my daughter's cone must have been from the dole whip stuff, because it had that sort of flavor - it wasn't bad but just a bit different.Location was brand new and they had seating inside and out - being right next to the new heritage park will undoubtedly be a good thing for this little ice cream joint.All in all a decent experience, I don't know that it'll become my go to ice cream place but it's certainly worth a try for those wanting to try somewhere new.

Our family loves Al’s Dairy Freeze! They have such friendly staff members who are happy to take your order from start to finish. The brownie bite snowstorm is one of our favorites, as well as, the chocolate peanut butter shake! I love that they have baby cones that are perfect for little kids. The drive thru is so convenient for a quick stop. We can’t wait for it to get nicer to venture over to the park nearby. Their ice cream is truly the best!

Classic.I cannot begin to express my satisfaction of this establishment.I think what I love about it the most is it's "no frills" style.I don't know if that's the intention, but I absolutely love that I'm NOT overwhelmed with choices here.There's no "mixed chocolate with raspberries and cream on top of Milky Way crumbles and caramel sauce."It's just, good ol'fashioned Ice Cream.We are definitely repeat customers.

We thoroughly enjoyed Al’s Dairy Freeze today. I haven’t had pineapple whip in years, and the one I got today did not disappoint. It was SOOO good! Our oldest son went with me and chose a snowstorm with cookie dough, Reece’s and cupcake pieces. He loved it and said this was the best day ever. We are thrilled to have another amazing ice cream place here in town. If you haven’t tried it out, we highly recommend going.

The variety of choices was nice. I found it to be a pleasant surprise they allow you to have twist ice cream in the snowstorm treats. I ordered the cookie dough snowstorm with twist ice cream, and it was delicious. The prices and sizes were reasonable. I will go back again. I really want to try the super bowl, which has a brownie, ice cream, and hot fudge.

Al's Dairy Freeze is one of my new favorite ice cream spots! I love me some ice cream and they do not disappoint. They make sure to not short you on the mix-ins, from the first bite to the last I had some cookie dough and Oreo in almost every singe bite. The owners are pretty great too!

Absolute, best place for ice cream! Our 3 year old is constantly asking to go and her her sprinkler (sprinkle) ice cream! Great staff and the owner is so friendly!

We stopped here on our way home to Carroll from West Des Moines a couple weeks ago. We were so impressed and our treats (Super Bowl, cookie dough snowstorms, sundae and a shake) looked and tasted amazing! Al definitely doesn't skimp on the amount of ingredients he uses. Outside the shop, another customer said to us "Isn't this place a diamond in the rough?" and we certainly agreed. Skip Dairy Queen or Culver's next time you're out for ice cream and head to Al's :-)

This is such a cute little ice cream shop with a drive through window! We had the chocolate brownie bites Snowstorm, and an Oreo Snowstorm. Perfect mix of ice cream and mix-ins. The kids said the ice cream was “Sooooooo good.” The staff was friendly and quick. We will definitely be back!

Went in tonight and ordered. My wife ordered the wrong flavor shake than she had intended for and when I told her what she had originally said, she was happy to take it as the shop didn't mess up and made exactly what she ordered. The girl behind the counter was more than happy to fix the shake though.Ice cream is good too! We'll be back.

Ordered a turtle parfait, strawberry sundae and a m&m snowstorm. Everything tasted good but the turtles parfait was a little off and I wish I had just ordered a soft serve cone to really taste the vanilla soft serve. When we saw them scooping out the caramel with nuts mixed in already, it did not look promising. The color and consistency looked unappealing and tasted the way it looked... like a colored sugar syrup with nuts mixed it. Would love a good tasting caramel with nuts sprinkled after like Culvers and Dairy Queen. Will be back to taste more items on the menu but will stay away from the turtle parfait.Overall, will be back. Good service.Edit: Thanks for responding! Will have to try the caramel sauce instead some time.

As an Ottumwa native that grew up with Graham’s, I am so very happy Al’s Dairy Freeze has opened with that same family feel and great tasting ice cream! The crunch cone is a personal favorite, but you can’t go wrong with anything they serve! Happy to recommend and support Al’s Dairy Freeze!!

Cannot say enough good things about this place! We travel from Des Moines to Grimes for this ice cream because it’s that good. I have Celiacs and they were so knowledgeable about their gluten free options. Great customer service. Can’t wait for our next trip!

My first time at the Ice Cream Shop.They have No Real Bananas.Wanted Bananas on my Sunday.So by this point I don't know what I want.I was pretty upset because what ice cream shop does not have bananasSo then I decided to try A Snowstorm with Reeses Pieces, Looks like it went through a blender I don't have anything in my ice cream.So i guess Im done.

Human and dog approved!! Definitely will be back in the near future. Love that I could bring my dog on a walk and use the drive through to order! Thanks for making a pet friendly option.
