We recently had an emergency on Saturday night and Dr.Shimkat not only returned our call immediately, but met us at her office right away. She kept our dog and checked on her every hour to make sure she was ok. Thank you to Dr. Shimkat for being there for us.

I took my 11 year old rabbit here today for a physical and check over due to her age. And I was very impressed with the Dr and the staff were all very nice. Glad to have a vet whose willing to look over small/exotic animals. Will be recommending.

Our cat was injured and although their schedule was full, they got her in and were able to take care of her the same day. They discussed treatment options and associated costs with us ahead of time. When we got the final bill, it was almost half of what we had estimated!Everyone there is friendly, caring, and competent.

My 13 year old wirehair was not doing well, I was really worried he was dying. Being from Colorado I was not familiar with any of the local vets. Dr Shimkat took us in right away and started work on helping our dog. We had no appointment and it made no difference, the care of a pet in need came first. The care given was top quality and after 3 days we were able to bring our dog home. Thank you for the care you provided and for taking us in so quickly. I have no doubt that we would have lost our Roy if they had not taken us in.

We moved to the area in 1996 and needed a veterinarian for our family dog, so we asked neighbors and coworkers who they would recommend. The majority recommended doctor Shimkat.She has taken great care of our dogs for 23 years and we won't go anywhere else. With reasonable rates and great care, why would we?

Sunday night and I return home to find my cat acting strange. Loud painful meows, looked bloated, not himself. I then realized he seemed to be struggling to go to the bathroom a day or two prior (thought he might have been constipated). Called after hours when closed Sunday at 610. By 615 Dr. Shimkat called me back and told me to immediately meet her there. By 630 we were looking at my cat and determined he had a urinary blockage (VERY common in Male cats). She worked on him and called me back hour 45 later. Kept him over night and until Tuesday. Brought him back on Wednesday to look at him again. If she would not have told me to bring him in that night he probably wouldn't have made it through the night. We're still trying to get him 100% again but grateful she helped that night.

Our elderly pup had what seemed to be a sudden problem of collapse, shortmess of breath and was not wanting to eat. Having multiple accidents in the house, which is not normal for her at allDR. Shimkat ran tests and found our pup to have CHF. On medications and doing much better! Very understanding and compassionate employees, and very good treatment, each and every visit!

Not the vet that I use. But I worked at the local animal shelter and we would have to drop some pets off to get fixed and pick them back up. They noticed things that others missed to begin with. Friendly, knowledgeable, clean vet office. And one of the very few vets in Fort Dodge that handles small pets such as; ferrets, rodents, and reptiles. And their office cats are carachters to top it off

I like just about everything at Family Pet Medical Center. They treat my animals perfectly, they stay on top of things, and they know what they are doing in terms of caring for my pets. I've even had her call in prescriptions for my dog right there while we were in the office, so that the pharmacy would have it ready on the way home.

Wasn't very happy when I brought my baby Miloh home to find that he was left in his crate the ENTIRE time after he was neutered. He had poop all over him when he got home. I called and asked why and the response I got was that he was "a little agressive." I told them he's a dominant cat. Would not recommend.

Liked this vet clean and reasonable front staff is not very warm . The only reason I stopped going to this clinic is that they have no coverage when the vet goes on a vacation or any time off they refer people to a terrible clinic which is filthy n run by a nasty man Anyone willing to send their precious clients to a clinic like that makes you re examine the judgement of the vet. Too bad in the end!

Good place for maintenance of healthy pets. If you need urgent critical care for your pet, might as well go ahead and go to Ames and Des Moines and skip the expensive tests that are only going to tell you that you need to go to a vet that has better capabilities.
