This store totally simplified a move from Cincinnati to Des Moines for my daughter, and me (helping her set up the apartment in less than 3 days). They had practically everything we needed (curtains, rods, shower curtain and rod, step-stool, shelves, extra towels and bed linens, mop/broom/vacuum, extra hangers, laundry basket and things we forgot in Cincinnati) and it was less expensive than I anticipated. The store was well stocked, especially with back-to-school/dorm/apartment items. It was very organized and neat (for a Wal-Mart). Check out was quick and efficient...because we did self check-out. My daughter has been back a few times since I left and has always found what she needed.

So I’ve been shopping at this Walmart almost since they opened……The ice cream in the freezer section every time I go in is covered in thick frost, so I don’t think the freezers have ever really worked correctly.The meat section always smells like something has rotted and never got cleaned. The pic I attached to this was of a ham sitting in the meat area.I’ve had the oil changed and tires rotated at the automotive section…. they destroyed the lug nuts at my most recent visit, so I hope they didn’t do anything else to my vehicle……I have complained to corporate, but nothing ever got done.

Not all Walmarts are created equal and you think they would be. Grimes & Boone stores carry a lot more items for smaller stores than you'd think. This is a nice store but just not over the top compared to the other stores mentioned!

They do really well with their drive up pre-order grocery set. I was nervous about them picking out my fruits and veggies but I've never had one disappoint. Other locations I've used weren't bad, but this location is on point and their staff are always pleasant.

I bought a coat and needed to return it within the hour. I didn't wear it, I didn't even take it out of the bag. I was told since it had a stain they couldn't take it back, which was the reason I wanted to return it in the first place. I hadn't noticed it at first when I bought, and I paid the price. The customer service girl was rude and told me "maybe next time double check, and we won't have this problem". Walmart is ghetto wherever you go.

A Really Nice Woman who was working in the Cosmetics Department, her name is Hollywood, WAS AWESOME! Although they didn't have what I wanted, Hollywood told me the name of a store in the mall that would have what I wanted!!! SHE WAS SO HELPFUL! SHE USED HER PHONE TO HELP ME FIND THIS STORE! HOLLYWOOD WAS VERY PLEASANT, HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL! EMPLOYEES LIKE HOLLYWOOD ARE SO NICE TO INTERACT WITH! Walmart is still Walmart, BUT, GREAT EMPLOYEES CAN MAKE YOUR VISIT almost ENJOYABLE! Thanks to Hollywood, I did get what I was after!🙂

No one needs Walmart anymore and it's time you recognize. Sales have to be down because this store is just worse and worse. Completely ruined a grocery order that was for over Christmas because some employee was too lazy to find a box of crayons on the order. The whole order was cancelled and they put a 10 day hold on the card for the total... The smug woman who was literally not doing anything but chatting up another employee was so rude saying well you weren't charged so it's whatever.... Actually that money was gone for my account for way longer than acceptable and the entire point she totally missed was our family needed those groceries. I did not have the time to spend messing around in Walmart Christmas Eve that's why I spent until midnight the day prior making sure everything we needed was on that order. So rude. So unprofessional. May as well remodel your stores further to only have 2 cashier lanes since you don't want to hire cashier's either.

Dec 24, 5:51 pm: I and a handful of other were stopped/denied access at the entrance of Walmart by Gage and and older man ( bald, glass, mustache). I asked for the manager: A TEam Lead came out , and seem agitated and overly assertive while addressing me the entire time. I was surprised, looking for the voice of reason, he was not looking to have any understanding or empathy.I asked why he was denying access to customers. He said " I want the employees to be ready to leave by 6pm and go home".. I told him that's fine but why not make the closing time 530pm? He countered by saying " because you'd be having the same conversation". I told him "this is a disservice to the customers who came here, relying on Walmart to have enough integrity to honor the open-close time.He then says " looks, we're closed". I replied " no you're not:look". I showed him my cell phone, that showed Walmarts closing time (6pm) and pointing to the current time (5:55pm after 5 minutes of talking). " you are open Nathan but you're denying us access". And I left it at that.To the walmart leadership, Please consider this hypothetical scenario:Nathan needs get at the airline gate by 6pm, and he arrived with his family at 5:50pm, ( like everyone did today), and they told him they're closing the doors early. Nathan and his family miss their flightdue to employee making executive decisions, underminingthe integrityand poloce ofnthe company. . I'm sure that wouldn't be acceptable....let's say he goes to rent a car right after that. He arrives to the rental car desk at 5:53pm , and they deny him a car because they want to go home early. Would that be acceptable?The customer should have an opportunity to get their needed items based of the open/close times listed. I told Nathan, " all I'm asking for is empathy for these customers out here waiting". He counters again with " what about the empathy for the workers". I say this respectfully, I have empathy, but, it doesn't seem he has empathy for anyone that was outside. Customers were happy tonight.The head store manager was outside the whole time,and she didn't do anything to find a solution.I strongly suggest there be refresher training fir the leadership regards to integrity, and not msking executive decisions that undermine the company i.e. honor the open-close imes.Now I and other customers from Walmart are at their competitors store, and they're keeping their doors open until the actual close time.WALMART YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS. .

The bathrooms where trashed there was a toilet overflowing with feces and smelled like an outhouse in july both front of store and back of store were unusable. Employees doing the grab in go shopping for internst customers gave no regaurd for customers and would cut in front of you and block whole isles while chatting to coworkers in the isle with them.

I rarely shop at Walmart but when I do it's an online purchase and I pick up in the store because I don't dare walk around that store and try to buy things and deal with the people in the store. This story in particular has a new pick-up kiosk at the front of the store which is absolutely horrible and I will never do it again. Apparently all the other stores are going to switch to this new way of having people pick up their items instead of having a pickup spot in the back. I'm sure there's reasons why and it might be beneficial for people getting more normal groceries but it was an absolutely horrible experience for me. I waited about 15 minutes after using the kiosk up front and still no one was around I was unsure anyone actually saw my order and that I was waiting. I ended up walking to the back of the store and just going in their back doors to find my items and an employee stopped me and said you're not supposed to be back here. I just went ahead and found my order and then left the store without talking to anyone. Two people tried to stop me on my way out and I ignored them. I will not be back. Walmart is grizzly and I highly recommend you don't use their new pickup service.

Walmart is a good place to shop what I don't like is that it sells objects that cause cancer. I don't understand why the govt allows this and why people continue to buy products without reading the label. Yesterday I went to go buy my son some boxing equipment (gloves and padding) but as soon as I read the warning sign I left it behind. It's sad that they care more about making money than ones health 🤔

Personally my biggest complaint is I don't like self check out. It takes jobs away from people who need work.Then when you do go to the self check out, there are 3-6 associates standing around to help you, and /or check your age for alcohol purchases. If they're going to stand there to help you, open up a lane or two and check the customer out.

This review is based 100% on Erin the person who greets you in WDM. She is professional, welcoming and an ideal first impression. I will go to see her as opposed to the near by grocery opportunity.

Sick of this damn place. The delivery department lied about my items being on sock. End up talking to Mary for her to find my items to add them to chart for me to have to pay twice. Mind u I put my order in soon enough to have a free delivery. Then our conversation ends and now have no money for refund to go elsewhere or my items for the holidays. I'm a member too

I don't know about other people, but I've noticed that this place is becoming more and more. A regular Walmart it used to be kind of an upscale Walmart. If there is such a thing.

Very clean and organized, fully stocked store.Helpful and Pleasant employees. Good prices.Enjoy in store shopping, curbside pickup and delivery! This is The Best Walmart in The DSM Metropolitan Area!! Very Clean. Well Stocked & Large Selection. Helpful & Courteous Employee's. Just watch out for the West Des Moines Housewives, they're like Snapping Turtles.

This place is a joke! This has to be the worst walmart I have ever stepped foot in. Everything is a mess, and as you can see, this is their battery wall. I stopped in for a CR1616 battery listed as in stock online. I even roamed around the electronics for over an hour trying to find them! Plenty of employees around and no offers for assistance from anyone. Empty aisles, and no price tags to be found on stocked items! Yet, asset protection was happy to follow me around. I will not be returning to this location; and since when are these stores not 24 hours?! This place is appalling, save yourself the trouble and visit ANY other store in the area.

If you need gluten free ingredients/snacks Walmart has a good variety! They even have their own gluten free Oreos in vanilla and chocolate! I'm happy Walmart is expanding on the gluten free foods as it seems to increase in people lately

The two ladies working at the self check out area were absolutely amazing, helpful, and to be perfectly honest more employee's could learn from these two! I feel terrible I'm unable to put there names , however Walmart could look back on there cameras to see because it would be worth it so they can hang on to those two.

Good prices. Horrible service.If you can even find someone to help, they don't speak English.Spent literally 40 minutes in line waiting to buy my kid a bike. Only 2 cashiers worked (slowly) while multiple workers walked around chatting or looking at their phones. Just as we were FINALLY checking out, they opened a 3rd lane.
