I mean it's okay. Some stuff is way over priced, other stuff is close to Lowes price and saves me gas. The kids working don't talk to you which is fine with me because I'm an introvert, but the older gentleman who I am assuming is the manager could do away with the staring me down as I come up to the register. I have my masters degree I'm not there to steal a $12 downspout extension.Edit 9/3/23- I don't know her name but the woman who works there is amazing. She is knowledgeable and did her best to help me locate some screws that the manufacturer of a bed forgot to include.Edit 12/11/23- Honestly after going there a few more times im bumping up to 5. It's close, the pricing is honestly competitive, and I have not had an issue being followed around or stared at since my original review.

Very sad I walked in the store. Nobody to greet me walked around trying to look for the item that I was searching for. Still no one all of a sudden husband and wife showed up from out of the back somewhere. Still couldn't find anybody to help me. And this True Value Store I would rate a three out of 100. Nothing on the shelves dirty I've never been in a store that looked this bad in my life. Stopped at plenty of True Values. I wouldn't waste my time to go to this one. Friendly advice do not go there unless they do like a reopening or something cuz that's the biggest s*** hole I've ever been in

The ONLY place to get spare keys made, home or automobile because they have tons of styles of blanks! Also, great place for that bolt you can't find anywhere else!

As the other reviews have stated, it is so nice to have a neighborhood hardware store where the service is excellent. A special shout-out to John for his customer service. When our contractor and decorator couldn't seem to get the custom glass shelves to finish off our project, John came through the same day. Thank you John for having the contacts to get things done. 5 stars for your customer service.

Convenient location.Good for a stop in for a couple things...a little higher priced than the big boxes but I appreciate supporting local.Overall it's not the most exciting place to shop. Maybe some additional lighting or some peppy background music could breathe a little life into this location.

Ace hardware knows what what they're stopping on the shelves because when I'm in West Des Moines and I can't drive all the way to Menards in Des Moines it is really convenient to go to Ace hardware and I always find what I need good job guys

Walked in just after 7am on a Tuesday morning. Asked for draino and the person working the register gave me the aisle number in less than 3 seconds! I didn't even have to stop walking! Friendly I checked out!

Todd, Martha and the entire staff are pleasant and knowledgeable of product and or its demonstration. A great variety of items and if not in stock offer options or ordering.Love the fact that Grand ave is opening up so that it's easy to get to "my" local hardware stop!

Worst rental department in the metro. Do not rent from them. Last year they rented a walk behind out from under me and promised me a free rental. They lost my paperwork so no free rental to make up for their mistake. Today I re Ted the walk behind again, and a tire blew on the trailer about 40 miles from their store. They told me they were to busy to help and drive it in on the blown tire. Sorry to whoever rented this tomorrow but I’m sure it won’t be available for you to rent. Service manger is incompetent and so are all the high school kids working there.

The selection is above avg. The quality of the named brand product rates high as well. The staff is knowledgeable. I'm on my way there now for a set of wrenches. The store is well organized and clearly marked.It's centrally located for the West Des Moines area as well the western edge of downtown .Des Moines.I'll be walking this morn just a couple of miles . I recommend the store for your hardware needs and the walk for the exercise.

I needed a very special size screw. I brought the cap with me so I knew it would. Less than a dollar later, the screw for the exhaust fan worked perfectly. You are always there when I need you.

I recommend this hardware store to all my single lady friends. The employees and Todd, the manager will help with advice and product info so I can complete projects myself. Love their helpful ways and their easy “in and out”. Wonderful service during this pandemic......loading plants, soil, mulch......Thank you

I have been shopping at this store for almost 25 years. I made a recent stop in the rental area. The salesperson was rude, accused me of lying and was extremely argumentative. I requested to speak with the manager and the salesperson responded, "what are you going to do about it"? I will not be shopping there ever again.

Rare actual hardware store is real handy as opposed to getting lost in Lowe’s. But if you’re making a key for someone don’t take a 10 minute customer phone call stopping work and then walk away to help other customers.And don't blow off the customer concern when raised to staff. I actually worked in a hardware store for years in my youth and you just don't treat customers like this. It defeats the purpose of the convenience.That said I will continue patronizing this store in hopes they are more on the ball in future.

Stopped by to get wiperbladers and No one knew if they sold them, pointed out an area where they might be. They didn't bother to help me look, just stood talking to each other (5 employees) Won't stop there again.

Wanted to speak to rental department to rent a power washer. When I called this True Value store on Grand and asked to speak to rental department I was told they were to busy did I want to call back later? That is about as poor of customer service as you can get, did not offer to take my information or ask if they could help. I used to frequent this store when I lived in WDM and always had great service, obviously that is no longer true about this True Value on Grand. Don’t recommend going there

I love this true value because the staff is always right by the door when you walk in and immediately asks what they can help you find. They will literally walk you to the aisle, point out what your looking for, and then do that with every item you’re looking for if you need it. The staff is knowledgeable and Rick, the person that cuts keys and is in the back little repair shop is especially willing to help and is always smiling! I tend to feel overwhelmed at hardware stores sometimes with all the options, but I’ve always been given sound advice when I ask for help and they are never condescending.
