First, the owners are amazing for letting our rescue hold events here for our adoptable pets. Appreciate them so much for that.Beyond that, you won’t find a better selection of high quality toys and food around! Great array of treats that my dog has really enjoyed, and the toys were a hit as well! The toys we purchased have lasted over a month for my super chewer, which is saying something considering she shreds everything within an hour of getting her paws on them! The folks working here are so nice, friendly, and fun to be around.

This place is awesome. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and helpful with questions and suggestions. They have a large selection of raw food for dogs and cats. The place hasn't changed inside, in probably 25 years but that's not the point of it. Plus the huge fish tanks are always fun to look at.We shop here for our dogs and continue to be happy customers!

Very grateful for this place and their knowledge! We got a small tank for my daughter to have some fish and we were mostly relying on google to answer our questions- which typically led to more problems. The staff here was able to help us instantly and finally feel like we have a place to call for help if needed! I highly recommend them for big and small tanks.

My heart is broken for the Quaker parrot living there. My son and I were there today and noticed a cage next to the fish tanks. It was covered with a blanket. We continued our shopping and visited the ARL cats. I became more curious of this covered cage and asked a male employee working. He said “ yeah, that’s Goobles. He’s loud and annoying. He asks “whatcha doin” a hundred times a day. We keep him covered to keep him quiet. But I can show you him if you want to see him. Well I was shocked when he uncovered the cage. It was narrow and too small for a Quaker to be in and covered in feces. I am a bird owner and I know birds are messy. But I can tell you my 6 birds could not make a cage look the this one unless I left it dirty for weeks if not months. Quakers are smart birds and need interaction. Keeping it covered all day is neglect.

My family and friends love this amazing family owned business! We have been going here for many years. They are consistently trying to find more ways to improve their products, store and customer experience. I don’t know any other pet store like this one as they offer not only a TON of dog, cat, small animal and fish products; they also have a dog washing room, 2 birds you can talk and interact with, an awesome fish pond, a ton of fish including a huge fish tank and tons of fish ready for new homes. Did I mention they have the ARL west location in the back? You can see cats and small animals. It is just an amazing one stop shop and I can’t rave about them enough! Highly recommend!

Great local shop to pick up saltwater fish and corals. Tim and Cale are awesome to work with! They helped me purchase my 180 gallon tank and delivery. Since then I have stocked my tank with Seascapes fish and corals. Great staff and helpful with questions from newbies like myself to the hobby

Great place to buy fish! They have a huge selection of freshwater and saltwater fish, plants, and all the supplies you might need. The saltwater aquariums are really neat, too! Staff is helpful and knowledgeable.

Love getting dog treat here. They have great prices and chews that other stores dont have. They also ordered in my dogs food since it was not a normal stocked item. Their prices were cheaper than most large box stores. Shop local and get all of your pet supplies here!

Great local business, staff is very knowledgeable about the products and has helped me know more about proper nutrition for my dog and cats. Love the rewards program on the dry pet food and selection of treats and toys for my pets. So much better than shopping big box stores. Staff is welcoming and helpful. The stock is much more varied and specialized. Only good quality supplies here. I drive 45 minutes out of my way to go here.

Was excited to show my son some animals and get some dog toys. Left without buying anything and felt kind of sick. The conditions some of these animals are in is cruelty—full stop. We saw dead and dying fish, some covered in fuzzy white stuff. Tanks were filthy. There’s a bird kept by the koi pond in a tiny DIRTY cage with heavy blankets covering it. The litter boxes for cats were absolutely filled with excrement. The cages for the cats were also very small. I could go on. Treating these creatures with humanity should be top priority and it was really sad to see these guys suffering.

I have gone to this place for YEARS. It seems like every time I go, they find new ways to show me what a great and wonderful place they are, as the owner regaled us with stories of raising birds and his interest in saltwater fish in our recent visit. Wide range of pet food choices here, plus bird stuff and beautiful fish (and all kinds of other pet stuff, too). What a gem. I hope this business flourishes for the gem that it is.

Shop here for very long time and noticed customer services has gotten worse over the years. Greeting isn't really a thing.Whenever I asked questions or availability, they don't really look at you when they talk which made it very uncomfortable/ rude. I've been to many fish stores and always get greeted by owners/ staffs. I usually spent hours at other fish stores but for this store usually last 5 minutes. For fish enthusiasts, we have fun time chatting about fish but this isn't a thing here. I've been to local fish store that's in a garage and they have more exotic fish than here but most important thing is that they made me feel welcome. I only shop at local fish stores to help support them. Hoping this gets fix whenever we come back.

These are absolutely one of the best shops in Iowa. It's not easy keeping this type of store healthy 24/7 but they do! The service is old school so yes it's great! Have always enjoyed shopping here for fish over the years. Began in the early 2000's shopping here for freshwater fish and supplies. Made the leap to saltwater around 2011 and imo this store is one of the best in Iowa for saltwater fish, corals, inverts and supplies.

I’ve had both good and bad experiences here. Overall, decent selection of products for cats and dogs. However: if you come looking to have a good customer service experience, I wouldn’t recommend shopping here. I’ve rarely been greeted when I walk through the door. I typically like being left alone while I shop, but almost every time I come here, I’ve been either completely ignored, or rushed through my transaction by someone who acts like I’m an inconvenience. Staff has been on their phones at the counter, talking with each other (and ignoring me), or cold, rude, and rushing me through my purchase. The 2 times I’ve had good experiences and decent customer service have been when I brought one or more of my greyhounds.Also, buyer beware!! I found 10+ cans of expired canned dog food on their clearance rack. When I let one of the staff know, I was told that they “don’t go through their clearance cans” because they are short staffed. However, short staffing does not explain or excuse having canned food on the sales rack that expired all the way back in 2020! There is absolutely time in the span of 2 years to take 5-10 minutes to go through the cans to ensure none are expired.I would not recommend buying fish here either. The tanks always seem to be dirty, and in the freshwater section there seems to be 2-3 dead fish per tank, and almost all seem to have an ich infestation.They have absolutely lost a loyal customer of 6+ years.

This place is fantastic! I made the mistake of going to Pet Smart to start a fish tank for my kids. I could never find an associate to help let alone have information regarding fish so I googled and found this place. We have completely restocked our fish tank and have had nothing but great attentive service going here. There is always someone who takes their time explaining each fish and giving the best guidance. The store is organized, you're greeted when you walk in and asked if they can help you find something. Even after my first visit here, we have continued to purchase other things there for other pets or maintenance for the fish tank.
