Just WOW! The staff was so patient with me as I shuffled back and forth between kittens on display waiting to be adopted. Spent a total of two days looking for my new best friend. Just as I thought one was already adopted, she was still there the next morning. Nala (previously known as Lola) ended up coming home with me. It was clear her and I were meant to be from the first time we met in the play room. I am so lucky to have her. Thank you to all the staff at ARL who assisted me in finding my new best friend!

The kids and I love visiting the animal rescue league. We actually go every year the week of my birthday to see the animals and make a donation. If you want to check out the second and ranch barn you do have to reach out and contact them before going out there. We were able to walk around the barn and Ella found a rooster she fell in love with, we will be adopting him this week so excited!!!

Got an amazing cat with a total of 8 extra toes!! We named her Paisley she is just the nicest sweetest thing. Gets along with my 3 year old bless her heart it’s not easy. She was $108 and worth every penny considering she’s fully vaxed and spayed.

Dear ARL of Iowa,We are so appreciative for all you have done to help our baby Galaxy during this hard time for all of us since he had to get his tail amputated and we were not able to afford this surgery. Thank you for showing so much compassion and sympathy towards him. We are so grateful you were responsive with this issue because we were having a hard time getting answers from other vets and the lack of sympathy from some was a bit discouraging. Galaxy has been with us for 5 years and we don't see him as just a cat he is our baby. ARL recommended their partner hospital Starch Pet Hospital, they were just as responsive and were able to get him seen for surgery the next day. The Vet and staff were all very helpful and sympathetic. We will definitely recommend ARL of Iowa and Starch Pet Hospital to all of our loved ones with their furry babies

Everyone here is so friendly and has a true love of animals. All my pets have been adoptees from the ARL and I've had nothing but good experiences. If you're considering a pet, please adopt! They have so many sweet animals and no one will share your excitement more than the staff and volunteers at the ARL!

We adopted this beautiful rooster named Matt. He is the sweetest boy! He was seized from a fighting ring sometimes you never know what you're going to get. He loves to be held and as you can tell that is my six-year-old son holding him he is not aggressive whatsoever we love him. Now for the ARL this place was beautiful they helped us out in every way that they could super sweet girls working there beautiful gift shop an area for you to play with a dog or have some quiet time with the cat and then right across the street is the barn and they are very well maintained beautiful horses and roosters and a pig named petunia

The adoption process was quick and easy. Plus the ARL has some great programs for anybody who is looking for a new pet, we have adopted 2 cats using the rent a cat program. For 2 months you get to have a cat, at least 8 months old or more, in your home to see if they are a happy and enjoyable match for you and then at the end you pay a small fee and the cat is yours, it's great for families who aren't sure, meanwhile the cat is still the ARL's and if there are any health problems etc the cats entire vet bill is covered.

The ARL employee was very informative and the kids all stayed very interested in what the ARL did for the animals they take in and help.

We adopted an adorable husky named Loki from the ARL, and everyone there was so incredibly nice and friendly. The facility is high tech with lots of room for the animals to sleep, play, and eat in. I highly recommend coming here if you want to adopt a new dog or cat. Ciao! ♥

My Jake is being held hostage by the arl and starch pet hospital but they aren't a hospital they said they are a clinic . They said I can't have my dog back til I pay most my bill. I paid over a 1000.00 in less than a week I gave them everything I have made went hungry day after day asked to see him and have been denied I am so upset that that I am getting physically sick. I have done everything they have wanted me to do and won't let me have him or see him. If they keep denying me my dog I am going to sue them for everything I can.

Does not actually care about the welfare of outside cats and will tell you to leave outside cats alone. No recommendations for programs or places that do TNR or anything. Will also blacklist you from ever adopting an animal in the future if you surrender a stray animal. They're like the CPS of the animal world, act like they care so much about animals, but they're really just money hungry control freaks.

He also gave great suggestions as well.I changed Baby Moo's name to Moo- Moo.He is adjusting slowly and coming out more and not hiding as muchHe is my morning "wake up" alarm."

I absolutely love this place. Got a beautiful tortoiseshell kitty here and a different kitty at their clive location. They are always friendly and knowledgeable about the animals and always seem to know how to help. Nothing brings more joy then a fluffy bundle of joy. I heard about the bunny a while ago and my condolence go to your organization. I can only hope things will be better from here.

Very friendly and helpful staff and volunteers make this a great place to be. The animals seem well taken care of, staff even seemed to know each by name. There are plenty of places to get pets for sure, but the level of dedication, professionalism, and personality would be very hard to beat. Clean, and new(?) facilities are thoughtful and functional. Go adopt a new buddy!

Had to put my dog down a few months ago. Went to the ARL as they are more affordable than most vets. They were busy, so ended up waiting about 20 mins before finally going back. They were very nice and let us all say goodbye. Was told that we could get a paw print mold and that they would mail it to us. If not, it would be another 20 min wait and we were emotionally drained and had our 6 yr old with us, so we opted to leave and have them mail it. Made sure they had our correct address and left. 2 weeks later I haven't received it, so I call. Get the run around and woman says she'll give a note to have the department call me back. Don't hear anything, so a few hours later I call them and the same woman said she talked to the department and they hadn't sent it yet but it was getting sent that day or the next. Wait another 3 weeks and I still haven't received it so I call back again. Again am told that they will get a message to the department and they will call back. Never heard from them. So I never got my paw print. I know they're busy, but that was an important keepsake from a beloved pet for me and they couldn't even be bothered to call or mail it out. I would have waited the 20 mins if I had known this was going to happen.

Adopted both my kitties from the ARL and they are my best friends. They both had serious medical conditions before adopting, and they were fully treated and cared for, including one having multiple surgeries to correct an eye issue. Now they are both perfectly healthy and they are obsessed with each other. Love the staff there, and I would love to foster or adopt more in the future! :)Edit: 2 years later and I've adopted two more kitties from the ARL and they are both awesome.

Found my neighbors daughter bring home a cat ive never seen around there, i know they have no animals. Brought the poor thing over to this ARL location since its closet, they wouldn't take it. Yes i do realize the shelters are full these days. Sad when the cops in pleasant hill were more helpful

I scheduled an appointment online, "flex appointment's", and got myself waiting in the virtual line. My girlfriend had been wanting a dog, but I didn't tell her I was doing any of this beforehand. So a few days later after I get off work I tell her to make sure she'll be ready in twenty minutes, "just enough time for me to get back home". I go pick her up and we head out, "unbeknownst to her", to the A.R.L. I took the back way there so she didn't have a clue where we were going the whole time. I turned to her and asked her if she knew where we were going yet, since we were cresting the last hill to get there. When she finally figured it out she exploded into a ball of excitement and happiness!!! One of the best experiences of my life!! Now we have another member of the family, Ross, a two year old chocolate Labrador. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good pet.

We have been to the Main ARL a few times looking for another dog and we finally found the one that we absolutely love. As long as you are patient for the right one they will do their best to match you. They go over everything with you. So we got Storm(half Boxer/half American Bulldog to go with our Mini Aussie.

Took my dog to ARL to be put down due to a serious illness that needed a $1700 surgery. They told me they'd do the surgery but I had to surrender her and could not be the one to adopt her back. I made a tough call considering this was my son's emotional support dog and surrendered her to have the surgery done. Now even though I couldn't have her back didn't mean his dad, grandparents etc couldn't adopt her so my son could still see her. Or so I thought. They did the surgery and she did quite well. My daughter was out adopting a pet 2 weeks later and seen Leigha. Even took a picture with her to send to me. But she was informed that Leigha was not up for adoption, yet... didn't know when she would be. But for now she was kept hidden in an office. What kind of place that claims to want to find loving homes for these animals would deprive an animal the right to be adopted? Do they think they're doing her a favor? She was an emotional support dog for Pete's sake so they think she's not missing her boy? They never even gave my son's family the option to bring her back to him. Shame on you ARL.

Disappointing experience with trying to meet a dog this week. Not enough staff to arrange a meet and greet, nobody is answering or returning phone calls even though I was told to call and “get in the queue”. Luckily the dog found a home, but very sad it wasn’t with us.

Looked at a cat that I brought in as a stray. Had been calling to check on him and came in to adopt. Told me it would be 30 min to even be able see him and that they will text me. I come back after not receiving a text and they tell me they don’t know what cat I’m talking about. Pulled him off the website. We go to the viewing rooms so I can show her what cat I’m talking about. Then tells me oh he was just adopted 20 min ago. This place is extremely unprofessional!!
