I recently started fishkeeping, and this was the place to go.I remember learning online that it's better to buy local because you can pick the owner's brains whenever you have an issue. Alex has been incredibly useful with this for me - helping me to balance pH, noticing when my equipment is broken, and giving me TONS of free spongefilter water to tackle a nitrogen explosion. If he does not need to charge me to solve a problem, he won't.Second, WLA is always generous in sales. When I ask for 2 Amanos, I'm given 2 extra for free. When I ask for 7 rasboras, he throws an extra one in there. When I ask for ramshorns snails, I get all on the house. There are a few things that Alex does not sell because he cannot match the big pet chains in price. The flipside of that is that everything he does sell is an amazing deal.Last but not least, it's just a pleasant place to be. It's a warehouse in the middle of nowhere that's full of fish. I like to bring my girlfriend to look at the loaches, and it's always a fun trip. So you could definitely bring well-behaved kids with you while picking stuff up. As far as I can tell, it's the Quad Cities' best freshwater aquarium.

Great place and workers are helpful. Parking is bad, and you'll get yelled at by the "building owner" (not West Lake staff) who was in a horrible mood, threatening to call the police and calling names while unprovoked.

West Lake Aquatics was a true surprise. The location was super easy to get to. Once we saw the fish windsock we knew which unit we wanted. Inside the tanks where clean and well layed out for the variety they carried. They had a nice variety of everything from fish to crabs. They were well stocked with food, filters, and anything else you could need. Staff was polite and helpful.

Great shop, a lot of fish. The people are nice. The shop is a little hard to find. It's in an industrial park. I had thought about doing the same thing back home actually. The parking is limited but worth the effort. If you're looking for plecos, they have a wide variety at good prices.

Very nice store. Clean & reasonable prices. Fish look very healthy and well taken care of. Staff or owner seem to be knowledgeable ,for all my questions. Nice assortment of fish & and a few rarities and a few locally grown fish to choose from. I'll be visiting here again soon.

Alex, at WLA, is awesome. He helped me with a 55 gallon tank by giving me some dirty water to help boost the bioload. Then we came back to get some fish a few weeks later! Love it when an owner is more than willing to help and ask how things are going. We will be back for more fish! Thanks Alex!

We have been there many times and have always been told to let them know we have a bit of a drive home so they can prepare the fish for a better trip.this time Alex spouted out there are no guarantees thats gust the change you take.considering we were the only ones in the store I would not have expected to be treated like it was an inconveniencefor us to be there...I may reconsider going back there again.

The owner Alex is extremely knowledgeable about fish, they have an amazing selection of beautiful of community fish, cichlids, and a lot more. They've got everything you need to get your tank running and to keep it maintained. 11/10 would recommend!

Always enjoy our trip here . We always have so many questions and Alex never minds always friendly and we have got some cool fish and loaches from him . All healthy fish..nice clean tanks and no bad smells !!! All plus for us .

Alex is a great guy and knows his stuff. However, the fish are not in good condition. Every fish I have gotten from the store has died within days. Now i’m sure people will say that’s my problem but every fish i have gotten anywhere else has lived for months if not years. Although he is kind and honest, his fish seem to be weak and suffering in their conditions.

Oh where to start. This place exceeded our expectations exponentially. Such a great variety of fish and invertebrates. The staff are so friendly and they carry fish you can't find anywhere locally.After we left we decided that West Lake Aquatics will be our only fish store. My boyfriend was so impressed. We originally went to just check it out and left with my sweet little Hillstream Loach and some shrimp. Our fish love the flake food they make there as well.

Everyone is so nice. There is a huge selection of fish and lots of ones you don't typically see. All the fish look great and happy. They have a huge selection of driftwood and rock. Plants all look fantastic. Highly recommend.

The only caveat about this place is that it is a little hard to find. Worth looking for though! This gem of a store is all function, and they hold a great number of fish that true hobbyists would be interested in. They take great care of them and the guys running the shop are very friendly and kind. Thanks Alex and Casey, I'll be back often!

He knows what he is talking about, rare fish that you wont see for miles, good quality selection in plants, driftwood, rocks, aquarium filters and bubblers, very helpful in any questions, very nice, and really good prices!! For those wondering the location is a warehouse, go ahead and walk in the door when you pull up. Onto the reviewThis place hands down has the best prices in Davenport, especially when it comes to blood worms and other goods. Even the tank accessories are at a fantastic price point. Alex "owner" is very knowledgable and even has access to unique fish "like the ripsaw catfish". I will personally be coming back often and I reccomend you "reader" do the same.
