Not terrible but not great either.Pond is disgusting, idk why anyone would get in it.Staff is nice and good Mexican restaurant at the entrance plus a little farmers vegetable stand. The bad...If your not permanent then you are in a spot that is somewhat small, lots of tree limbs hanging so possible damage to your camper, spots are lined with railroad ties so difficult to back in, no sewer, no wifi, everyone stares at you like your outsider bc you don't live there. Not many options around so it's good in a pinch.

We camp here every summer & have always enjoyed our stay. This last stay was not so great. The beach was dirty with garbage all over. There’s only a handful of loungers which are dirty & in poor condition. The area with the animals also is run down. There’s worn out wood, broken cement right along where you stand to interact with the animals. Two of my three children fell & got hurt while standing in this area. Also there is no parental supervision. We played at the lake & playground where kids are running around cussing & fighting. These same kids are also driving golf carts around with no adults. These kids all appear to be under 10. We watched one boy drive into a camper with four other kids on the golf cart who were younger then himself. The trash cans were overflowing our entire stay. Fireworks going off at midnight. Yelling & screaming until 2AM. Not a family friendly location to camp. Appears everyone is there to get drunk & pay no attention to their children. Will find a new location for our next camping trip. There was a group of kids who found baby turtles in the lake - they had them on the playground, we’re throwing them around & one got jumped on. Where are your parents?

We were going to stay here for rhe 1st time. This campground packs campers right on top of each other. The electric is on the wrong side and the fire pit was full of mud and you have to share it with other campers. When asked for a refund we were told, they would not refund our money. Don't camp here the owner is terrible, as is the campground. Go the a state or county park. Don't camp here for $25 per night plus tax and fee.

IF I COULD WRITE ZERO STAR REVIEW I WOULD. WE MADE RESERVATIONS FOR TWO NIGHT AND WERE ASKED TO PAY IN ADVANCE. WE DIDN'T STAY EVEN STAY ONE NIGHT. THE CAMPSITES ARE NOT MAINTAINED AND THE OWNER IS RUDE. HE SAID WAS BEEN THERE SINCE 1968 AND IT LOOKS LIKE NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO IT SINCE. WE ASKED FOR A REFUND AND WERE TOLD THEY WOULD NOT GIVE US ONE. DON'T CAMP HERE!!! WE ENDED UP CAMPING AT DANKIN COUNTY PARK UP THE ROAD FOR LESS MONEY AND AND BETTER EXPERIENCE.

I was seriously and life altering hurt at this campground due to the owners inability to stay on top of basic upkeep. Rather than take responsibility or even show compassion the owner went on a smear campaign about my weight. The owner is disgusting, the grounds are disgusting, and most of the people who stay there only care about how messed up they can get. This is not a wholesome family getaway.

This has got to be the best campground I've been to as a kid! Kinda jam packed with campers. But out of all the places I've been or stayed. It was always. Quiet, hush hush after dark. With nothing to do. Barley any kids running around. This place is awesome. Has down to earth people, lots of kids and activities. Everyone gets along great, plenty to do and very active campground. Has a petty zoo. A store where they also make food, and I believe they are opening a restaurant as well, but not positive (saw a sign). Would be my go to place If I could get a space

Nicely kept campground. Staff very helpful and friendly. There are a lot of seasonal or semi-permanent units. That reflects the atmosphere and friendliness of the campground. The other side of that is the place feels a bit crowded even when it isn't. They have a petting zoo for the kids. One of the goats was free and was very interested about myself and the dog when we walked over his way. A tame pig and a pony wander around the campground, usually as a pair. I thought that was very cool. If it's not your thing, take that in to account. There is a small beach and well demarcated swimming area. Probably not a great location if you are in to surfing. They have an RV sales business as well. On a previous trip they were helpful when I needed a couple parts due to a poorly placed post at a gas station.

Nice place, pretty laid-back, children friendly. Very helpful staff. There is a lake, water slide suitable for small children. A petting zoo. A golf course is super close by, plenty of shade trees. It does get kind of loud on Saturday nights, but it looks like a good time if you aren't here for work like I am. Grounds are well kept. Free fishing and I have seen some good sized fish come out! Paddle board also..

We camp here at a seasonal site. We love it here. The people are friendly and the grounds are beautiful. Some people have complained that the seasonal campers make too much noise, but I can tell you that it isn't any different from any other campgrounds. The 4th of July fireworks are amazing! The farm animals are fun and friendly. They seem to have a lot of activities for kids as well.Disclosure- I am not related to the owner, nor am I good friends with him.

Husband booked online. Photos are quite deceiving. Very overcrowded, the fireplace was the bottom of a barrel sitting on cinderblocks, I can't stress enough how crowded this place is! Reminded me of a rundown trailer park. Needless to say we did not stay and were out the two nights we paid for. Thankfully there was a beautiful campground a couple miles down the road. Would not reccomend!

After being released in my TMNT pajama pants and bright yellow Mighty Mouse t-shirt at 12 MIDNIGHT... I got the wrong directions to walk from the county jail to Ames, and walked from the county jail to Twin Anchors Campground. I arrived in the middle of the night hung out with the 🐐 GOAT for about 20 minutes while I ... 🔥🌳... I hope there really was a goat near the entrance... to start the walk in the correct direction. 🙃Walkability: Approximately 2-3 hours down a looooong, pitch black, lonely, and winding road through the beautifully horrifying rolling hills of rural Iowa.😳😱👀👣🦌🐺🦇 🦅🦉🐍🕸 🍂Playground: Pretty sure the 🐐 was real...

Fantastic! I never thought I would love a place like this. But it was so welcoming, laid back and fun. My kids and dogs love this place. We are seriously looking into getting a permanent spot here. There is a beach area with a slide, petting zoo, paddle boats to rent, small grocery store with an ice cream shop inside and plenty of amazing views. Here is a picture of the view from right outside our camper.

Our family absolutely loves spending time at Twin Anchors!! The owner is very accommodating and friendly. Bathrooms are clean, the store upfront has the basics and most importantly we feel safe letting kids ride their bikes around the grounds. Would definitely recommend!

Great site for families. Tent camped 1 night here. Hosts where super friendly, site was grassy and level, bathrooms with showers where nice. The petting zoo area was really fun, and the host was letting the kids help out feeding all the animals in the morning (which they where loving!) There is also a little lake with a waterside, and swim platform that looked great.Only down fall, there is a train nearbye that goes through blasting its horns all night which made for not the best sleep. Then at sunrise the roosters chimed in as well.Overall minus the train, a great family camping spot!

I'm bringing up a cute sign to hang in the ice cream/ flashy food. Lots of smiles and kindness in this homey place.

Amazing campground. The owner is a really cool dude. Nice people. Some permanent spots but you can rent a lot of them. Some right by the water. If you buy wood here, they bring it out on a gator quickly. Nice little shop up front. Never had a bad experience here. Great for families too. During the summer, they have some group activities you can participate in. Pretty cool spot. Wondering tho if it's open during this whole covid thing?

You CANNOT make this stuff up!!! It was the trashiest, messiest, most tightly packed campground I've ever been to. The two female employees were very friendly and nice but other than that, I have nothing good to say about this place. The "petting zoo" was a bunch of chickens and a rooster (who would crow from 4 am until around noon constantly) a few ducks who fought loudly, four pot belly pigs a donkey(who also sang the song of his people) and a Shetland pony. The "swimming area" was right off of our campsite and small children were walking through our space nonstop and unaccompanied (I know that's not the actual facility's fault however these are the people that stay there) said children, and adults included, were screaming and yelling and just generally disrespectful. it was $20 a night for electricity only and an extra $10 a night for me to put a tent up. The site itself was maybe 20' wide. There was not a fire pit at our space. We had to rent one for ten more dollars! You were only allowed to park one vehicle at each site and extra parking was incredibly limited. Now let's move on to the bathrooms: only two of the five stalls worked, and neither of them had toilet paper. it was disgusting and dirty there was one soap dispenser that was broken. The door was held open at all times by a cheap rusted out chair (that was in the way of the actual doorway). Also there was small children looking over and under the stall doors. Did I mention the golf cart parade? All four of them?! I do not have any clue in the world how this place has as good of a review as it does, But if you enjoy peace, quiet, and a clean environment while you camp, I would not recommend this place. I am disappointed that this is a private facility and is being ran this way. I, for one, will not be returning.

We visit several times a year and love it. My parents even come all the way from New Mexico just to stay out here and our daughter loves all the animals at the petting zoo. Curt the new owner has done a great job with the place!

This was out first time at Twin Anchors and it won't be the last! This is a family friendly campground that has it all. The owners are very nice and accommodating, there is a beach area with a water slide, a resturant, a general store, a small petting zoo and everyone here is so nice and friendly. We will be back as often as possible!!!Thank you Twin Anchors for an unforgettable weekend!

Very nice campgrounds. We got a great view of the lake and swim area at our spot. Staff was very nice and let us barrow a extention for our power. Petting zoo is cute and our kids ask if we could come back already!

Alot better shape than it was a few years ago...very nice swimming one with slide, beach and dock. Definitely need some bathroom upgrades...fans or AC and shower head changes but it was liveable just very hot and humid in shower houses. Definitely an easy fix. Will stay again!
