Stopped here for a morning coffee and snack in between appointments. Cute set-up. Wasn't expecting that in a strip mall. The coffee was good. I got my latté with half the syrup and that was more than enough. My partner got a Red-Eye and it was good and robust. The staff recommended the honey and walnut cream cheese so I got that on a plain bagel. It was everything I didn't know I wanted! So good! I don't typically go for sweet cream cheese but this one changed my mind. It was fluffy, not overly sweet, and with just enough crunch as it was not inundated with nuts. They were super busy this Sunday morning but you could hear them effectively communicate with each other to make sure everyone was attended to. Great place! Wish I would've stopped here sooner! I'm looking forward to trying their bagel sandwiches next time. There's one that plays on a Vietnamese Banh Mi that I'm curious about.

Craving some bread so impulsive stop on a Tuesday morning around 9:30. Patio full of diners. One couple ahead of me in line who had apparently never ordered food. Or seen a bagel. Or been in public before. Any hoo- the wait was LONG! Not any fault of the staff however. They have a dozen or more different kinds of bagels and cream cheese. Can order by singles, half dozens, or dozens. Breakfast and lunch menu available. Many kinds of coffees with many add ins for different flavors. Bottled water and canned pop.I had a century to look at the menu and observe the workers. They were on it! 2 people filling orders and one person taking orders. Moving at a good pace. Obviously working on to go and call ahead items. Nice clean space with a few tables and a couple of high tops for seating. I didn't notice if there was a restroom. My turn and I ordered a gluten free bagel with veggie cream cheese. Ready in about 2 minutes. Wrapped up nice in foil which was a bonus as I couldn't consume it until I got home 20 minutes later. The cream cheese was spectacular. The bagel was either a day past its prime or I didn't like their gluten free version. Bill was $7 so no complaints.Have had breakfast sandwiches from here that were tasty in the past. Definitely will go again and get a nice wheat filled carby bagel with extra cream cheese.

I love a good bagel. At this place one has a lot of options to load their bagel with goodies—ranging from $7- 9 dollars depending on your palate of the day. I chose the Manhattan on a Cheddar Bagel. The selection was fantastically delicious. The place is small and parking is terrible, but the wait and the price is forgivable because the bagel is just that good. Go give them a try!Today I Stopped in for a quick breakfast wrap full of yummy goodness!

This was our first time there! The food was delicious and they got all our stuff ready very quickly. The service was great and they helped with menu questions. Will definitely be back in the future, there were multiple other menu items that we wanted to try.Overall it was a good experience for us.

Best Gluten free bagel I’ve ever had! They were so accommodating to my daughter’s gluten allergy. Even toasted on a clean flat top and got cream cheese from a fresh container.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options free of cross contamination

I was super impressed! Growing up not far from NYC, I was skeptical of the claim of real NY style bagels in the Midwest. They did not disappoint At all! The staff was so friendly and even when they were packed, they worked really fast. I loved how much cream cheese they added to the bagels. They have a great selection as well. 10/10

We will be returning to this bagel shop! Hands down one of my favorite places to get breakfast.Their cream cheese is delicious and comes in a variety of unique flavors. Fun seating, great staff, delicious food. What more could you ask for. If you’re in the DSM area, check it out!

Whenever I'm in the area I make a point of stopping by for breakfast at least once or twice. They have a wide selection of bagels (garlic, poppyseed, pepperjack etc) with a great and wide selection of meat, veg and cheese fillings. They also serve bespoke coffee and lattee drinks as well as a few craft sodas and ice-creams or you can opt for a regular soda from the fridge at the back. The price is a little steep for what you get I feel, and there have been a few instances of my order being mis-prepared. The store also tends to feel a bit claustrophobic when its busy but even still none of that has stopped my coming back time and time again wherever I'm in the mood for a bagel.

Vibe- I have to get a bagel from this spot whenever I’m in town visiting my boyfriend! There’s plenty of seating outside and a good amount inside. I really like the green velvet seats!Customer service- Great! I did an order over the phone and it was ready to go when I got there.Food/drinks- I got the French toast bagel with the honey walnut cream cheese, yum!I love that they are not stingy at all with the cream cheese!!! You could literally get another bagel and spread it with the excess cream cheese from your bagel you ordered.*They do also have some vegan cream cheese options; I did try the tofu maple walnut on my last visit and was NOT a fan at all :(Parking- Its located in a shopping center so there’s plenty of spaces to park.

It’s almost a routine now to order 2 Empire bagels on everything bagels, hot honey and added hashbrowns each weekend. The food is absolutely worth it. It’s filling, thick & quality ingredients. Sometimes they’ll hook it up on the hot honey spread & man is it amazing. This place gets super busy, it gets tiring to see upset customers eyeing us when we go inside and grab our ready to go food. Order in advance online to skip the wait and get a text when it’s ready. Don’t be rude to the staff, they kick butt in pumping out so many bagels & orders- if your impatient order online!!!! Otherwise there is no other place like it for a yummy filling bagel fix. So thankful the machine was fixed! If you order online you’ll get a text when it’s ready & food will be ready on a shelf as soon as you enter the store.

Awesome bagels with lot of options. Coffee was ok...is on the stronger side. Prices are on the higher side as well.. but kind of worth it. The place can be busy so plan accordingly.

The closest to an East Coast bagel that I think I’ve found in the Midwest. Great option for a quick breakfast or somewhere to sit and talk with a cup of coffee. They have many vegan and gluten-free options and have done well accommodating my families food allergies in the past.

Went there today, the place was packed but it was absolutely worth the wait! Best bagels in the country, including the actual 5 boroughs. I’ve been going here for years, the bagels are fresh and the right amount of chew and their cream cheese selection is amazing. It was neat to see the owners behind the counter hustling along side their staff. My wait was probably 10-15mins from the time I walked in because they were just that busy. Every employee that I interacted was friendly and the whole staff was working hard the entire time I was there. What a great local spotMy only complaint is they need to bring back the mocha chip cream cheese!

I’m actually from New York so when I was visiting the Des Moines area everybody was incessantly telling me how I need to try this place. I have to say, that being from New York I wasn’t expecting much when visiting Des Moines in the way of bagels, but let me tell you 5 boroughs runs with the best of them. I don’t often write many reviews on here, but how delicious this place was prompted me to do so I will be back every time I’m visiting Des Moines .

I've been here about 6 times now. The bagels are exceptional, they are slightly chewy and the overall texture is the best I've had. They have many options for bagels and cream cheese and the serve breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches and lunch wraps. They also offer a full coffee, espresso and tea line up. The shop itself seats about 20 and is quite busy on Saturday morning. As I write this there is a line to the door.

The staff is so friendly and helpful. Such a cute little space with a great variety of options! My faves: chai tea, breakfast burrito, and pastrami sandwich! So good!Vegetarian options: So many great options!Kid-friendliness: Has a cute little couch for waiting. Has high top chairs that might be tough as far as safety for children.Wheelchair accessibility: Very accessible

I stopped in for lunch around 12:30 yesterday with my sister after hearing good things about the place on this site. I have always been a Bruegger's fan girl, sibce my husband worked there for almost 5 years in Ames. I wanted to see if 5 Borough Bagels was better. The place is cute and simple, and refreshing in terms of style. They serve breakfast all day, and have bagels, salads, and wraps. We ordered a breakfast bagel, one of their lunch bagels (The Queens) and a cheddar bagel with veggie cream cheese.Specialty Bagels- These were both amazing. They were toasted and crisp on the outside while still soft and supple on the inside. I ordered my breakfast bagel with cream cheese, and there was plenty on the sandwhich. The flavors were spot on for both of them, and it was a great experience.Cheddar with Veggie Cream Cheese- This one we ordered because I felt like to truly judge a bagel place, you gotta go simple and see how they do. Well, they did amazing. Again. Lots of cheddar cheese, and the cream cheese. Holy cow. It was fresh and LOADED with fresh veggies. It was light and refreshing and just amazing. And they give you a LOT of cream cheese, so be prepared for a messy eat.Price- 2 sandwiches and 1 bagel with cream cheese for less than $20. I felt the price point was a great deal given how fresh and delicious they were.Service- Our service was really good. The people working behind the counter were courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable.Cons- They have self-serve water for free, with child - sized cups. I just wish they had full-sized cups, but that's being really nitpicky. Also, most of the tables hadn't been wiped down while we were there, so we found it a little hard to find somewhere to sit (we wiped one down ourselves). And the last con was that there were no napkins at tables. They had one napkin dispenser by the water, and it was empty. With the amount of cream cheese they serve, they need napkins at every table!Overall, the best bagel place I've ever been to. I HIGHLY recommend going and trying it today!
