Love the caring staff and volunteers. You can tell they love every animal brought in for their attention. Here Athena "our" foster dog needing a forever home. Last Hope goes above and beyond working with us to provide Athena with a beneficial transition to her new family.

I adopted my special needs kitten, Wilbur, from Last Hope in March. He's now eight months old. Their foster volunteers do a great job socializing kittens -- from the get-go, Wilbur has been incredibly friendly and outgoing both with humans and other cats alike. He had all his veterinary needs taken care of as well, as he was already fully vaccinated, dewormed, and neutered when we brought him home.To those concerned about the fee, $80 is a very fair price to pay for an animal that is healthy, happy, well-behaved and well-cared for. Last Hope does the best job of making sure their pets are ready for forever homes of any shelter I've ever encountered.

They really want to find the perfect family for each pet. We are honored that they allowed us to adopt Íppos from them last year. They have a phenomenal team.

Last Hope is a great place to find your next pet. They connected me with Lynn, a cat foster mom, who was incredibly helpful through the adoption process. she worked with my schedule was honest about the personalities as well any underlying issue the cat may have had. I adopted horse a month ago and he seemed to have a cold when he got home. Lynn stepped up in a huge way by helping me get the cat medicated as well as providing me with support, toys, and food to get started with my boy horse. She even made herself available to take him to the vet early in the morning before I went to work, but luckily it was not necessary. Horse is happy and healthy and has an incredible personality. Have patience and last hope will be a great adoption agency to go through.

My experience has been disappointing but ONLY for personal reasons. I am trying to get two best-bud, affectionate, well behaved stray cats into a safe, warm, nurturing environment and eventual home. The process has been difficult because I am also attending a kazillion arrangements for my own time-stamped relocation while contending with physical-memory issues linked to "post-concussion status." I have requested direct assistance to bypass the online application process, but that hasn't happened, at least not yet. LAST HOPE, however, is an EXCELLENT ORGANIZATION, one that I have supported. It's difficult attending their application requirements right now. I'm providing daily food, emotional support, a make-shift shelter and minor medical care. One kitty, Yellow Cat, is underweight and shakes from cold while eating as fast as he can. Heart breaker.

I strongly wanted to put a negative number for star. We were trying to get a dog for my 70 year old father who is alone and has some health issues and when we applied we got no answers until we went to last hope. The lady who worked there was a very nasty person. She denied us because my dad's vet had passed away and no records could be used for his past dog . She refused to listen and when we had the new owners contact her with the information she wanted she said she was going to still deny him because of his age and health status. She should not ever be allowed to work with animals or humans. She was was so rude and obnoxious that there's no way she should be doing this job.To work with all those lovable animals I thought you should have a loving heart but not this woman she evil and cold hearted. I feel so bad for all involved with this lady. I will be contacting our local news channels and looking into legal action. After reading some other comments She is denying anyone old or disabled. My Dad was crushed by this and we are looking elsewhere for him.

Crystal M., a volunteer for the organization, took her time getting back to us after many attempts through email and voicemail (13 days of waiting for a response). Ultimately she denied us of adoption. After a couple more reach outs, she still hasn't replied back with questions we had. It's too bad, we are good, caring family who would have given a cat a healthy, wonderful, warm, comfortable home. She needs to step up her responsiveness.

Stopped in to donate a couple of dog beds and some dog food as my 16 year old dachshund had passed last April. The staff was wonderful and even shed a few tears with me when she asked about my dog that passed. Adopt a pet from here... you won't regret it.

I adopted 2 cats from there in September, Kitty and Joey are their names. They both have health issues that I didn’t know about. Kitty has bladder infections and needs to be on special food as to prevent them turns out she had a bladder infection in this shelter and they said they cleared it. The cat I’m most upset about is Joey, when I got him he started throwing up soon after I got him. I took him into the vet and he had a bad heart got him on heart medication, he seemed to be better for a couple days. Than he turned worse he couldn’t walk, I rushed him to the 24 hour emergency vet where I was forced to make a difficult decision to put him down because he was so sick that I didn’t really have any other option. So not only did I already spend over 1500 on my cats I lost my sweet Joey who was a loveable boy. So I don’t recommend adopting from them. Try Cedar Rapids humane Society or a different organization. Hope this helps.

Went in and filled out app was told it would be a few weeks for the kitten I picked out to get shots and was going to get another older cat too! Called several times and Facebook. I left messages and got no response! As I don't have animal cruelty on my record I have no choice but to believe it was something personal with the head lady! As I know not everything is race related I believe this was that! She wouldn't even look me in my eyes when speaking to her as well as no greeting when we came in! Sad because 2 cats could of had a good home!

We adopted from Last Hope a couple of months ago. They gave us a grace period to determine whether or not it was a good fit. We were newly married and first time dog owners. We LOVED our dog so much, but it is a really big commitment and there were some natural challenges. I'm just starting my career and my wife is now in school and working as well. We spent a lot of time and money into taking care of him and making him feel a part of our family. But we often had to kennel him and with his severe anxiety, it wasn't good for him. We felt that he would be best in a home where he never needed to be kenneled and that had a yard for him to play. We made that decision within our grace period. We were treated horribly as a result of this decision. We really built a bond with him, and we looked forward to being able to check on him and see how he's doing from time to time. But we were blocked off of ALL social media, and phone numbers were blocked. My wife was devastated that we had to give him up and I just hate how we have been treated simply because we wanted the best for him. It's unfortunate, because I know Last Hope is truly a great place that does great things for these animals.

I put in a application for one of the kittens and they say they’ll get to up soon because we were the only application for the kitten. I asked if there was any information I should know about or if the cat had siblings and the person said no. About four days later we call and there was no answer. We kept calling until two weeks later they finally answer and I ask about the kitten and was told she was adopted by someone who wanted her and her sister. I was never told the kitten had a sister. If I was told I would have adopted both of them. I am very upset with this because I was not able to get a animal I wanted because I was not told all of the right information. On top of that when I asked if I could get a different kitten I was told no because I should have kept track of the information of the kitten having a sister and that I wasn’t responsible enough.

We went to a event they had at Toyota on Saturday. We were waiting for a dog they said would be there at 10;00am . Sometimes things happen. So we decided to walk around and check at some other dogs .My husband walked up and started to petting a blk Lab getting along pretty well. The women then tells my husband that the dog doesn't like men. This would have been nice to know before my husband petted the dog. We had another accuse my grandson of pulling a dogs tail . Which he has been taught to respect animals not hurt any. My grandson in 7 years has never done anything like this .The final unprofessional then was Amanda the women who hosted the event told me she would call me in a day or two. Now I understand things coming up and forgetting things . So I called let a message for her . She never returned my call. The organization can highly recommend to me from a friend who has since passed . Thankfully she did not see all of these things that happened . I think the volunteers over all do a great job. Maybe they were having an off day . I don't know but this is the reason I gave them this review. Most of the dogs they had that day were pit bulls . The dogs we very sweet.

Requires you to be 21 to own a cat. Tried calling 5+ times during business hours and never got an answer.

If I could rate them 3.5 stars I would. Basically my fiance and I adopted a cat this week and the lady who handled the adoption was lovely and amazing. However, on the day I was set to adopt my new fur baby, the adopt coordinator informed both me and the foster parents that when she had reviewed all of his vet papers she noticed that he had been tested for feline leukemia at 4 weeks old and was slightly positive. For those who dont know, 4 weeks is way too early to test for that. Around 12 weeks old is when that test is supposed to be performed. Since he had been tested at 4 weeks, he wasnt tested again at 12 weeks. This is a huge oversight considering he was placed in a foster home with 2 other cats (feline leukemia is a contagious cancer). I opted not to take him home that day so as not to expose my cat. Last Hope did pay for a second round of testing and he is negative for it so I was able to adopt him, but that's still a pretty big issue to miss. The adoption coordinator was very professional and apologetic though and I appreciated her telling us. She could have easily let it slide and she didnt. So I'm not saying don't adopt from them, but be cautious and ask a lot of questions.

Last year, I was misdiagnosed with metastatic cancer. I did what I believed to be, the responsible action and contacted Last Hope Animal rescue to rehome my 2 small dogs before I was too sick to care for them. I miss them terribly and wish I had waited for the 2nd opinion. However, I feel confident that their new owners are caring for them well. The application process is very comprehensive. All staff were very kind and understanding.
