So much good food!! No way to leave hungry!! The dinner comes with soup, salad, pan bread and all that before your huge meal comes. The appetizers are all so good! Love the fried green beans. By the time I get through the appetizers, soup and salad I am so stuffed. And then comes the entree. Everything is so amazing. Never had anything bad. Come hungry!!!

Amazing food & very friendly staff! My only complaint is that it is so quiet in there, so whenever anyone else is talking I can’t hold my own conversation or be a part of my personal conversation. Otherwise, seriously one of the best places to eat!Also be prepared, there is a BIG price difference between lunch & dinner & the menu does change, but you’re able to ask for the lunch menu (with lunch menu pricing) if need be.Dietary restrictions: They are more than willing to help accommodate!Wheelchair accessibility: Have to walk up stairs to get in & out of the building & not a whole lot of room for a wheelchair inside (doable, but would be kind of a hassle).

Excellent food, excellent atmosphere, fun times. Each dinner comes with soup, salad, fried bread, and croutons. We had 10 at our table on a Thursday night, we were about the only ones there.We love eating there when we are in the area. It is built in an old grist mill.

I've eaten at Bonaparte's Retreat 3 times, and stop in whenever I can. I love the ambiance of the place, and if you're lucky enough to get the window by the big water wheel and a view of the river, it's even better. Prices are very reasonable and the food is consistently good. Don't expect a multi-page menu... you can fit there list of offerings on a post card. My only criticism is that they have limited hours. If you're the kind that prefers a late lunch, you're going to have to go elsewhere because the Retreat closes at 1pm and doesn't open again until 5pm for dinner service.

We loved the environment of this building and everything about it! The waitresses were so sweet! The lunch menu is very small but very good and very cheaply priced, we were surprised by that. I would definitely stop in here and eat again! I highly recommend!

We love to dine here. Nice drive to a beautiful location. Cozy, charming atmosphere in a restored gris mill. The menu is not huge, but covers all the important items, steaks, seafood, chicken specialty items. And all meals include soup AND salad! The food is very good and very reasonably priced. The service is also very good. We go there whenever we're in the area.

Get off the beaten path and find this place. The lunch specials are very good! I could tell the sweet corn was fresh and not from a can. Be patient waiting for your food because it's worth it. Only had to wait because there was only one waitress during our visit and she tended to all the tables and the checkout register.

Overall it was ok the hostess our waitress was not very personable and should probably stick to running the place and not waiting tables. The food was good not great my wife’s food was cold mine was hot kitchen did not start my wife’s food later than mine so it sat while mine finished cooking. Overall it was ok we are from out of town and maybe we expected more small town hospitality and friendliness won’t go back there we heard about the place from a coworker. They should understand every customer is going to share there experience with others

Where do I start??? The lady at the cash register when we first got there was so joyful. The waiter was the best. And oh my goodness the soup... Can't say enough about it. Probably the best that I've EVER eaten. I'm 63. Very friendly atmosphere. Just go try it. You won't be sorry.

Old grist mill turned quaint very established restaurant with a gorgeous low river view in a sleepy little town in southeast Iowa. Comfort foods, homemade bread, soup, and daily lunch specials. Weekend dinners are scrumptious in a warm and cozy setting. Not handicap accessible.Parking: Plentiful on street parking.Wheelchair accessibility: Not handicap accessible. About 7 steps to get up to restaurant.
