This is the only place we've found dehydrated duck hearts! My dog absolutely loves these! And, they're a super healthy treat, too! I felt like everything in the store was fairly priced, and actually cheaper than most places. The store was small, but extremely clean! And, the staff is so helpful! Will definitely be back weekly!

Took our Irish Setter Maggie to a new groomer. Maddi at Wholesome Pet Essentials in Ankeny. She did an awesome job and the best thing was Maggie loved the experience. We have found our happy grooming place! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a groomer. They are just great!!

Love this place for my doggie grooming, treats, and calming chewies. Always a good experience here. The curly chew thing in the pics are my dog’s fav. They either quickly destroy or get bored of all the others.

Wholesome Pet Essentials is one of the best pet-oriented shops in Ankeny and surrounding metro. They're all very knowledgeable, welcoming, empathetic, and you can tell they're such animal lovers. Their groomers are patient and kind. The prices for their products are more than reasonable and they often have amazing deals. You cannot go wrong with Wholesome Pet Essentials.

Moved into the area this year and my poodles were long overdue for a good groom. I scoured the internet for different groomers looking for samples of poodle cuts and reviews and just didn’t find much. I tried Wholesome based on their reputation and convenient location and they did a great job on my two boys and got us in during the holiday rush. One of them is a handful and Tala did a great job on both of them. She took her time and made them so handsome! I’m attaching both before and afters of their glow-up for any other poodle owner looking for a groomer.

Amazing place and fabulous people! The only place I can find toys to hold up to my little demon! She loves to destroy toys quickly. Also Jenn is amazing at grooming my big dog! He is so happy to see her!

I want to say thank you to all the staff here who made our experience so awesome today! I have a 7month old mini aussie/papillon mix puppy. He’s nippy about his feet, and has never been to a groomer before today. Maddi H was our groomer and she did an AMAZING JOB! My pup loved her and he looks and smells great. And all the staff in the store were very sweet and helpful.I’ll attach a before and after pic bc he was lookin like a ragamuffin before.

Wonderful store! Great staff and awesome selection! A lot of cool options I haven’t seen anywhere else, like rabbit, lamb and beaver with fur! Everyone was knowledgeable, kind and helpful! My pup and I both loved it.Will be back for sure.

I brought my dog there hoping for someone patient with her also that could listen to what I wanted done to the dog, I met Kaysha Otto she is everything I dreamed of my dog doesn’t come back to me stressed out Kaysha takes her time. My dog is named cuddles she goes to Kaysha like she’s her best friend. Kaysha Otto I would recommend highly and only one that grooms my pup. Took my pup Ava for a self-service bath. As much as I love letting the groomers work on her, it's nice to be able to bathe my dog myself from time to time and I love that they offer this service. The tubs were deep, there was plenty of shampoo, conditioner, and other items for the bath, and we both had a great time! Plus it's convenient to just get a treat from the store afterwards!

They always do such a great job with my corgis nails, even though he’s a handful. Got him groomed here for the first time today and he looks wonderful!! I absolutely love the people here they’re all gems. I recommend Wholesome to every person I know who has pets!!

Worst place you can go. If they don’t sell the food they will tell you that it is the worst food ever. They talk down to you as if you don’t even care for your dog. Do not waste your time. So many better options in Ankeny.

First time getting Ophelia groomed, I was definatly more nervous than she was about the whole ordeal but the people here seemed very kind. I was nervous about her ear because I know Ophelia can be a little defensive about it and I didn't want anyone to mess with it or to have someone just shave my cat. I asked for a trim and I think they did a pretty good job. Her coat is very even and much softer than before. Ophelia doesn't seem distressed by the whole ordeal at all which is great because I was honestly scared that she would hate me after I got her groomed. They took really good care of her. She is much happier now with the shorter coat and doesn't get hairballs as often!

Everyone is so wonderful and welcoming when you walk in the door. I’ve been bringing my pup there for grooming for years and they treat her so well. I even bring in my bearded dragon for nail clippings. It’s a great place to get everything you need for your pets! ❤️

It was a delight experience for me and my fur baby to stop by this beautiful family owner pet store to pick up some birthday goodies. There’re a lot of unique snacks that can be find at this location such as cereal treats, cakes mix, ice cream mix etc! Various types of jerkies (eg: salmon, beef, turkey, pig...) to choice from !If you’re wondering what you can get for your fur baby that’s on diet, pick up some turkey jerky and the cereal looking snack (Crunchy O’s), it’s is only 2 calories per snacks and it comes with 5 or 6 different flavors (see image posted). They also have different types of gifts that you can grab for your fur baby during the Fall/ Halloween season !There’s also provide grooming services and trust me if you want in, you should schedule appointments as soon as possible!Plenty of parking spaces and super friendly and patient staffs !

We love wholesome pet essentials! Ever since we have moved to Ankeny 6 years ago we have been coming here for all of our grooming, nutrition, and all other needs for our 3 pups! They love all of our kiddos so much and take care of them wonderfully! 10/10!

I have taken my dogs to be groomed here several times and always gave a small tip. The last time I received a call to come pick up my dogs shortly after taking them. The dogs are small Yorkies. They claimed the dogs were misbehaving and they couldn’t groom them. I usually tipped 10%. I believe they didn’t want to do the grooming because they didn’t think my tipping was large enough. When does this tipping fiasco going to end.
