We had the bakery make my sons birthday cake with sponge Bob decoration. I let them do the decorations with no input from me and they nailed it. The chocolate cake was perfect and it looked amazing

We recently stopped into the Prairie Trail location to order some cookies for my daughters birthday party which is in a couple weeks. We inquired about having a dinosaur theme to the cookies and showed a pintrest picture of cartoony-themed dinosaur cookies. The lady who was at the bakery counter said they could not do that beacause of copyright issues. While these looked like generic dinosaur cookie images, we said that was fine that they did not have to look like the example, just a general theme. The lady would go on again about due to copyright they could only have 30% of the image. Again, we said we understood and only wished for a theme (not a copy) and if they could accommodate the request. She stated that the cookies came premade in 3" and 5" circles and they did not possess the ability to cut shapes into the cookies. We again reaffirmed that shape or specific design was not an issue, just wanted to know if they had the skill to draw dinosaurs in frosting onto a cookie. The lady who I was led to believe worked in said bakery department of Hy-vee stated that some bakers can and some can't!She went to ask someone else and moments later came back and unconvincingly stated they could but that it would be $5 for a 3" cookie!! Feeling that was a little egregious for a premade cookie, decided to take our business elsewhere. This was disappointing as we have ordered cupcake cakes from this location before and the design and flavor was fantastic (dinosaur themed too)! Where have all the skilled bakers gone Hy Vee? Perhaps if the bakers present on the day of this review were more concerned about customer satisfaction and less about copyright laws, they would of kept an otherwise loyal customer.
