I recently visited Wheatsfield Cooperative and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The selection of products was impressive, and I appreciated the focus on locally sourced and sustainable goods. The quality of the items I purchased exceeded my expectations, and I left feeling not only satisfied but also proud to support such a fantastic cooperative. I highly recommend Wheatsfield to anyone looking for high-quality products and a welcoming atmosphere.

Love supporting local, especially when it's this great of a store! So many diverse dietary friendly options and the vegan options on the hot bar/bakery/deli areas are delicious. We appreciate always having options!

Quite possibly the most awesome store in Ames. If they dont carry it, they can probably get it. Newly remodeled, extra friendly staff, places to lock up bikes, hot food bar, indoor/ outdoor seating, meat and seafood counters, etc.

I’ve had Challah from LA to NY but the Challah that comes out of the bakery fresh in Ames on Friday is by-far the ultimate BEST!! I love it and everyone that tries it does too! Get it fresh out of the oven and it’s really super delicious 😋 I get two loaves because It goes fast. But if you have any leftovers it makes great French toast.

Today was the first time I have been here, and I really liked it. I've been on a journey of trying to eat healthier, and this place has it all. Yes, it's more expensive, but you're paying for better quality food..and weighing out your needs and wants because in reality it's better to spend the money on stuff that's good for you then junk with pesticides and god knows what else. I will definitely be back.

I'm a lifetime co-op member & I wish they would make all their vegetarian options vegan. Vegetarians can eat vegan food but vegans cannot eat vegetarian food. So many times I could not buy food because it had butter, milk, egg or meat in it. Just use plant-based butter, milk, egg and meat. That is better for the environment, animal rights, and sustainability. A whole food plant based diet is nutritionally adequate for all stages of life.

There is a worker named Lydia, who was extremely kind and patient. In addition to helping me pick the products, she gave me advice on a dish I wanted to make. It's truly a nice place to shop and everyone is so kind 🧕🏼💖

It was my first visit and I went with my friend, who's a member. I have Celiac Disease among other food related issues. I was so happy to see such a variety of the good foods I can eat! Staff was helpful and our checkout person answered any questions I had. You're my new favorite store!

For a Co-op, it's very nice. Good but small hot bar, salad, reasonably price. The staff is always helpful. Lots of local grown, and organic food. I visit from Florida, ans always stop here several times.

What a wonderful community treasure! Stopped in for lunch from their hot plates and salad bar. Wonderful selection of fresh, and delicious foods. Indoor seating is still unavailable due to Covid protocol, but everyone was super friendly, and there were some tables set-up outside to eat. Great food, great price, and a wonderful feeling that comes from supporting a local treasure.

This is the only grocery store in town that I actively enjoy visiting. All the others are fine, but this is where I go if I need one thing and can’t bring myself to go anywhere else. Best produce in town, and great variety of everything else. Their fresh baked bread is the best around, I recommend the focaccia on Saturday!

Great local co-op! The employees are always nice and helpful. They have a great selection of local cheese as well.Once we got fresh fruits and veggies from them, we've never been able to go back to the regular grocery store. The grocery store fruits and veggies are bland tasting in comparison.

Excellent selection of specialty, local and vegan food you can't find very easily elsewhere. Also natural cosmetics and cleaners. Great produce, fresh bread, vegan baked goods and local brews. Prices reasonable. So glad to have a store like this in Ames!

This is a fun Hometown natural grocer! They have lots of organic produce and some interesting vegetables you can't find anywhere else. A nice bulk food section with the make your own Nut Butter machines. Lots of different probiotic drinks and a nice view counter too. Fun to poke around! They also have a co-op membership.

This place is simply amazing! Honestly, could spend more time and money here stocking up. I love how they always have chard. And, Sir Kensingtons gochujang everything sauce is something anyone who likes aioli/mustard must try!

I was searching for extra dark (>85%) chocolate as a gift. This place had it, and a wide selection at that. Apart from chocolate they have a fantastic selection of grains and cooking ingredients. The atmosphere is sort of worldly fair-trade. Would definitely recommend checking it out.

A friendly staffed store full of very high quality foods and products. With samples abound try not to fill up before hitting their deli or salad bar (amazing vegetarian and vegan sandwiches) where you can sample just about anything. The bulk section was great, I was hoping there would be more non-food stuffs there like soaps and the like but it didn't detract from the selection and quality. Everyone here from employees to the shoppers had a genuine and pleasant disposition that made the experience that much better. Support your local community and definitely go. This is an awesome place. Plus they had free stickers and WiFi when I went!Edit (10/01/17) There is a section of bulk soaps (like Dr. Bronner's) located at the end of one of the aisles near the vitamins, I hadn't noticed it before.

Absolutely love the selection of organic food and health products. The atmosphere at Wheatsfield makes me feel at home. Everyone who works there is so kind and helpful. Plus, their new smoothie/juice/coffee bar is AMAZING! Highly recommend.

Organic real food. Organic energy drinks. Organic Beer! Fresh food daily! Sushi prepared by a master!Many great lunch choices. Prices are really high. 6 bucks for a tuna sandwich is too much. 10 bucks for a whole chicken is ridiculous, but muh organics! Staff is always cool, its all worth it I suppose because its real food, not infused with garbage. Excellent real food in every isle. Worth the extra buck or two. Fresh salads and great vegetarian food. Real milk. Great coffee and pastry/morning snacks, made fresh. Sit down or carry out. Open til 9pm everyday. Check it out!

Every time we travel through Iowa we stop here for raid snacks and a potty break. The staff are always friendly, the store is clean, and if I lived here, would shop here. Lots of organic, GF and healthy food items. Not pretentious like SOMMMEEE health food stores. Worth the trek off the highway.

We do the majority of our grocery shopping here. They have lots of local options, as well as healthier alternatives to things. The bulk section is decent, excellent for dry basics such as coffee, pasta, and granola!

When businesses return to worrying about business rather than politics I’ll return to giving reviews based on the business rather than management’s poor political games.After wearing a face shield here, as they mandated, for A WHOLE YEAR, management gleefully informed me a year later that they changed their policy and that I had to wear a mask instead (this after being asked about the shield on at least one occasion prior). So disappointing... ironically, I was moving and that was my very last trip to this store. Mask mandates are bad enough (if you follow the actual science and the fact that they don’t stop virus sized particulates), but this sole encounter ruined my whole impression of this business.I liked the organic selection at this store. Unfortunately, that is not much reflected in this review due to management’s snarky behavior. I wish them well, but I also wouldn’t go here if you want our world to return to businesses that keep their politics to themselves.
