Amazing experience here. Layout is a tad confusing but the beauty of the store makes up for it. I also needed an item that I couldn’t find and they were right there to help me! Wonderful store with helpful people. Also, you can always judge a pet store based on their fish tanks and this store’s tanks were gorgeous.

My in laws went in to buy fish for their 37 gallon aquarium. They were trying to get a bristlenose pleco and got told they didn’t have a big enough tank. I’ve had them in 20 gallons. When they found out they had a betta in the community tank they started acting like it was the end of the world and made them buy a separate tank before they could buy some barbs. They either don’t have the knowledge to help you keep fish, or they would rather lie to you to sell you a tank.

I'm giving this store 5 stars because they had Coppersafe available for a parasite emergency in my aquarium so I was able to treat immediately instead of waiting days for Amazon. Thanks guys.

As a mother I am so disappointed that you guys didn’t let my daughters buy a FEEDER FISH.they said they felt disrespected the lady said something to them in a way that made them feel stupid and I really did not like that.you guys were saying to get it we need a 30 gallon tank per fish when 60+ fish are not even in 30 gallon tank.They are dying anyways let me buy one or not.If you guys are worried about my baby’s buying a fish and we “don’t” have the required things are dumb because you guys have the most beautiful fish are in a cup for hours in a day you guys are looking at the wrong situation honey.

NEVER GET YOUR DOG GROOMED HERE.I went on June 7th, 2022 to get my Goldendoodle a haircut. When I went to pick her up I noticed they went WAY shorter than what I originally said. I also noticed that the hair is SO uneven. I tried to include pictures where you can see the extra-long hairs on her belly, back, and also her paws. I would never recommend anyone looking for a pet groomer to go here.

The staff here is great! I stop in 2-3 times a week to get crickets and minnows and they always remember about my turtle and gecko and remember details. I also here them call customers dogs by their names so you can tell they want to build a connection. I think the 2 gals that help me most are Maddie and Liz?. Keep it up!

Shout out to Mina C. Dog Groomer. My 6 month old Lab may have some anxiety issues.but Mina did a great job today helping to calm her. We had to cancel the appointment .But Mina loves dogs . You can tell.?

I am NOT ordinarily a review writer, but I wanted to take the time to thank the groomers at PetSmart here in Ames for being so kind to my two Havanese boys, and so patient and understanding with their doting mom. After having had the older of the two injured and traumatized at another pet store, I've taken on the task of most of their grooming needs myself. Their black toenails though...! I'm so afraid of clipping the quick. And the puppy is just to wiggly for me to do the job properly. Henry, our oldest, was understandably terrified of groomers. However, after the first nail trimming session with Shelby and her helper, he was eager to go see them the second time. And Shelby has given us a great start with our new Havanese pup, Elliott. Shelby is so bubbly and upbeat with the boys, they can't help but love her. Havanese have a very high social IQ ... they can read people's emotions incredibly well. I'm so grateful to Shelby for Elliott's positive introduction to nail care, and for giving Henry confidence that he won't be hurt again. I hope the store manager knows what a gem he/she has in Shelby!

They have alot of Pets, toys and decor but the 3 times I have been to the store I've been completely ignored, avoided or there is absolutely nobody around to help. I'm interested in alot they have for my fish tank but can't ever get anyone to help me. I'd just go to petco or the other pet store in town and they don't have nearly as much.

I had my serious concerns going to PetSmart after the news stories from a couple of years ago about dog deaths while in their care (look it up), but I thought we'd be fine just buying a harness. I brought both of my 30 lb. dogs (because the other one would get upset being left behind). I looked at the harnesses and decided that I needed some help getting the right size, so I went to the front counter and asked the cashier. She sent an unfriendly woman (about 60 years old, glasses, short hair) who started fiddling with one of the harnesses on the shelf. My dogs, both on short leashes, got bored and started playing with each other. The unfriendly woman told me she wouldn't help with the collar because of the way my dogs were playing. I didn't know what to say, so I calmly said, "OK, we'll go to PetCo." The unfriendly woman walked away and called out after us "I don't want to get bit!" As someone who was bitten a week ago by a strange dog at a dog park and is receiving rabies shots, I could sympathize, but the dogs were clearly playing, as anyone who is familiar with dogs could see. Furthermore, the comment she called out at us as she walked away seemed unprofessional. It seems my initial impression of PetSmart is correct - it's not a good place for dogs. PetCo helped me with no problem, though I had to choose from a smaller selection.

They service we got while looking into getting a fish was absolutely horrific. 2 separate people helped us an neither of them could have seemed less interested to help us, on too we’re not even giving us the same answer on what tank we needed for a Betta. “One said the tank wouldn’t work, one so it would” we got pointed in every which direction instead of just shown. This is a pet store for a reason so most people expect to get help when purchasing a pet.

Staff was very friendly, but the check-in process back in the grooming salon took forever. Maybe they over booked but we waited 10-15 after our scheduled appointment before we got our pup in. Our dogs fur smells good and is soft however they didn’t trim him as short as I wanted. He honestly looks like he didn’t even have a haircut. Not to mention, they didn’t cut his hair on the back of his neck and that extends to about his middle back. Nails were trimmed and his paws were cleaned up nicely, despite him not enjoying them touched. It also seemed to take a VERY long time. He was there in between 5-6 hours. Not too impressed.

Scheduled a bath & brush for our Aussiedoodle. Upon arrival an employee inspected her, told us she was good to go, and we made the 20 minute trip back home. As soon as we got home, they called for us to return to pickup our dog as she was "too matted" for a bath and brush, and the employees currently working weren't qualified to cut hair. We wasted 80 minutes of driving back and forth for no service. Absolutely zero was done to rectify the problem. Staff was rude. Booked her the following day at the Ankeny PetSmart with zero problems and they did a beautiful job (and also mentioned it was silly Ames wrote down "heavy matting" as it was quite minimal). They also have a sign by the front door frequently for walk in nail trims. Every time I have attempted a walk in nail trim they state they are too busy. Will never return for grooming service.

Signed my 5 month old puppy for 6 week beginners training class. The first “lesson” was a 40 minute product sales pitch, some introduction and then a walk around the store. 2nd class was 15-20 minutes of talking and then again sent out to walk around the store with little instruction/interaction with the instructor. And more product pitching. Cancelled and got a refund before the third class. I could’ve brought my dog in and walked around the store without having to pay $120. They don’t allow any choke or pinch collars or any other helpful training tools just a harness or regular flat collar, which does nothing on a 60+lb Labrador when he’s pulling and not listening. Not a good training methodology at all. Go to a real dog training facility.

Groomer missed a huge mat behind my dogs ear. They didn't brush her out, there was tons of undercoat that came out of her tail and rear area when I brushed her. My other dog didn't get her nails done. Both dogs didn't feel clean and soft. Aside from grooming, their bettas are always sick and neglected.

Employees were nice but maybe train them better on how to refund money since I was charged twice instead of being refunded for renting the carpet cleaner. I was refunded in the end but having to wait probably 5 business days until I get my money back when I wasn’t budgeting to be down $60 for a $30 deposit is honestly horrible. A lot of people can’t afford to be put in those kinds of situations.

I had my reservations about visiting Petsmart, but they were the only place I could find my cats food! The staff were all very friendly, wearing masks and sanitizing the registers between each customer. As I was walking around the store, I noticed all of them were busy stocking shelves or cleaning but every one of them stopped and asked if I needed assistance! It was very refreshing. They were gentle around my senior dog (she’s blind and deaf) and made sure she was aware of them so she wouldn’t get startled. Overall a lovely experience and I cannot wait for my cat to run out of food again so I have an excuse to go back! 😂😁

Good luck getting a fish from these people. Unrealistic standards on tank sizes that they don’t even follow themselves. Poor customer service every time.

Good place for any kind of pet supplies. Great selection of really just about anything you want or need for your pets. In my case a mini Golden doodle named Maya and her smaller sister Piper who's a sassy Malti Poo. Clean place with really nice employees that are very friendly and helpful. (At least the person I interacted with was). Easy to get to and is in a slightly lower traffic area. Not quite as much traffic on the south end of Duff. Also found our ' now hard to find ' Royal Canin specific breed dog food. And of course you can see some really neat pets who are shopping with their parents.

This is a smaller location than we are used to and I was disappointed in their selection for reptile products as well as to hear that they don't price match with chewy anymore as they've separated from them. However the staff was friendly and the store was clean.

This is my favorite PetSmart location in all of Iowa. The store is always super clean and the staff welcome you in every time. The animals always look like they've been well taken care of as well.

Ordered online went in to pick up and there was some sort of issue with the order. ended up finding what I ordered on the shelf myself (thankfully it was in stock) and a very nice manager helped cancel my online order. Not the employees fault that the online system needs help! Everyone was friendly and helpful and that is appreciated when tired and told their is an issue

I had to wait 45 minutes just for my dogs food to be "found" which it never "found" was my dog has allergies and needs speical food we checked online 5 minutes before coming, and they said they had 8 bags left when we came they "looked" for it (they didn't even though) for 45 minutes, and kept us waiting the whole time, all while being extremely rude.I was planing go home way sooner but I'm 30 minutes late now so, thank you (not).

Absolutely adore this new PetsSmart, the associates are always friendly and greet you with a smile no matter what time of day you stop in (even if you are THAT person that comes in 10 minutes before close for an emergency stop to get cat food). They know where the products are and alot about what products they carry as well as keep the store need and tidy. Their animals seem to always be healthy and happy. I have 3 fish from here and they are almost a year old now!

A nice store with good selection. Took my dog to get groomed. While they did groom him shorter than I had described wanting, they still did a good job with it and he looked good. Will just simply explain to not go so short next time.

The Staff in the Ames, IA store were so helpful today! My Husband & I have just adopted a 3 year old beagle hound mix, that needs to be taught some manners. Since we do not live in the area the option of taking classes is not an option for us. The trainer visited with us & gave us an idea on how get him not to jump on people. The manager was also very courteous & helpful. We enjoyed out experience there & will stop in when we go to Ames. After not feeling welcomed at Petco in Ames IA , Pet Smart has our business

Took my golden doodle, Ellie in for her first puppy / summer cut today. I tried taking her to Petco, but they refused to groom her because she was mouthing their grooming tools. She's 5 months old... I don't think a single puppy sits still on their first groom.Lori (their lead stylist) went above and beyond and I couldn't be happier with how Ellie looks! She took the time to take good care of Ellie and I highly recommend her for all of your grooming needs.Thank you, Lori!!

Unpredictable hours for the self-wash station. Posted hours of grooming are until 6pm, called the day before and told they accept their last walk in for self-wash at 5:50pm, come in the next day at 5:35pm and was told they close self-wash at 5:30pm so they can clean. I can bath my dog in under 30min, but getting off work in time to hit the moving target that is the grooming hours isn’t worth my time and frustration. They have a good selection of fish though. The staff is hit or miss for help.

We were not sold what we asked for and when we called to politely explain what the problem was the lady who claimed to be the manager was extremely snotty with they would not sell the wrong item or had to of been somewhere else and she was too busy to deal with my mom. They will never get my families business again as this is the second incident someone in the family had has and the fourth incident i am aware of friends having at this store!!!!
