SUPER-HELPFUL: A guy in the repair center offered to help me get an old chimney brush attached to an adapter on a 12ft extension pole. He drilled the holes and found the bolts and nuts that I needed and put them on for me (Less than a dollar worth of parts!). Thanks ACE!This really helped me solve my problem (I was going to resort to duct taping the parts together).

Always greeted by staff offering to help. An easy in and out for little things rather than dealing with the traffic to get to the big box store, especially when its for some single item oddity you need. They have saved the day several times for me, last trip it was a pair of set screws for a 40 year old sewing machine and today it was a spark plug for my snow blower to get it running again.

This is the best store in Ames. When you're like "I need one of those little thingies but I don't remember what they're called" they always know what you mean. And they have a surprisingly great selection of kitchen equipment including canning supplies.

I was going to stain the wood top of my kitchen island. I went to Ace, not really knowing what I needed to purchase for the project. The gentleman who assisted me was awesome! He helped me find everything I would need, explained how to do everything, and gave me some very helpful pointers. This store will be my "go-to" store for all my household projects. You just don't get that kind of service at Lowe's or Home Depot.

This is a very good hardware store, but like all smaller places, their prices run higher than the mega-stores like Lowe's and Home Depot. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The store is laid out in an odd manner that makes finding certain things a challenge sometimes. Location is good, just a matter of yards off of Grand Ave. and the parking is more than adequate.

I've been trapped in the ceiling for the last four days, and it's rather cozy. There's plenty of mice and bugs up here to eat, and I can listen in on all sorts of strange conversations. Very comfortable would recommend

This store is well kept and the associates are very helpful and friendly as well as eager to help you find what you need. Most are knowledgeable. The prices are a bit high compared to the big box hardware stores but this is to be expected. It's nice to have one close though and I don't mind paying a little markup in trade for convenience. It can sometimes be a good place to make big purchases if you catch a sale.

Had to think about this one. I love the fact you have just about everything a person could want and then some. Yes your prices my be a bit higher than others but it's great having a business like this in our neighborhood. Downside is the staff. I can't stand being mobbed by sales personal and I mean mobbed! If you stop to look at an item here they come, you can't stop and look at anything without an employee crawling on you. I was polite at first but when they start making me feel rude because I don't need or want help there is a problem. I don't want to be rude to anyone but when they won't leave you alone a person can't help but appear to be rude. I even asked another customer if it was just me they focused on and he said no! Happens every time he's here. I tried going back cause it's close but the same thing happened. Sorry but I'm going elsewhere. You have a great business but your employees are harassing people away.

Small store but full and well organized, so much easier to shop at than the big box stores. There's always someone there to help you. Even better is they know there inventory and where it's located. For a bonus they also do some repair work and they have a Post Office inside.

I love this store. It’s very small for a hardware store yet always has what I need. Prices are usually more than Menards or Lowes, but the Rewards system is good and it is so much more satisfying to come here.

Nice to be able to go into a good hardware store…the way they used to be. Good selection, competitive prices, friendly staff, has a post office inside and they even play good music in the store which is rare these days. Even found things i couldn’t find anywhere else.

If you need something specific, or if you need someone who is knowledgeable and willing to be helpful, this is the place to go. It is not particularly cheap, but they almost always have multiple varieties of whatever screw, bolt, washer, flange, or whatever thing it is you need. They also have great paint. Definitely worth it to get you paint here.Additionally, you won't have to walk a mile to get to the door for a quick item. And, they carry Craftsman tools.If you are building a deck, or putting in flooring, this is not the place. If you're in need of a common (or not so common) hardware, gardening equipment, plumbing, or other supplies, it's worth a stop.

Their employees are rude and disrespectful to non local customers evidently. As soon as I walked through the door, "I could feel them staring daggers into my back. It's muddy out granted. I wasn't aware how muddy my shoes were. If I would have noticed or if they would have just said something when I walked in the store. Instead of following my Coworker and I around like we were going to steal something. I more than gladly would of just kicked them off at the door and went in my socks. I got treated like I was a criminal coming in to rob the place. When all I was trying to do was spend my money there instead of the big name stores. No need for them to be totally rude like they were. Then act like I was being rude to them

The Ace Hardware Store in Ames has excellent customer service with staff members who immediately ask the customer if they need help. More importantly, the employees take the customer to the product they are looking for in the store. In the majority of stores that I shop in, if I ask an employee if they carry an item, they point or tell me the aisle number. In today's world, outstanding customer service is a rarity, but this store has it.

The staff here are always willing to go out of their way to help.I had to locate some 2000 grit sandpaper today for a polishing project and the guy who helped today even got his phone out to help me figure out the answer to a question I had.Pricing is competitive as well! Anything you need is probably cheaper here than it would be at Menards or Lowes.Always recommend!

Can't compete with the larger stores or online marketplaces as far as price is concerned...nor for product selection.However, they do have quality, an in-person presence, and the occasional novelty find to make up for a small margin of that.My last couple of calls have ended in the disappointment of non inventory on what I needed.My last two trips here ended up being to mail something, (which was another sore subject in their "meh" satellite USPS location), and to window shop when the equipment I sought wasn't here as I was told.
