Tried to check out, no cashiers, but 5 people standing talking. Waited for another employee to walk down up front to join them and asked for a cashier. Was told I could get help in self checkout. I was Agian directed to self checkout after informing them I was writing a check. In self checkout was informed I couldn't write a check and needed to go through regular checkout. I dropped my item in frustration and left. Lowes didn't have a problem taking $30000 in checks while I remodeled my house, but won't wait on a customer now.

Ordered a fridge on Saturday. Was told it was to be delivered on Sunday between 4-8pm. Get a call Sunday night at 8:45pm that they are delayed and won’t be able to get it delivered. Waited until Tuesday for delivery, was told 2-6pm. Again waited, got a call at 7:45pm saying the drivers were past their allotted time frame and it couldn’t not be delivered. Each time was told I would get a call to set up a delivery time and no call…

DO NOT...UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES Order windows/window installation from Lowe's. I ordered $11,000 worth of windows last year and 8 months later I still do not have all of my windows. Some of the windows were sent in the wrong color. Some of the windows were installed with damage. And now, they set up appointments to come out and install one of the windows that had originally been shipped with damage, and they don't show up for the appointment and they don't even bother to call. I took a day off work. Wasted a day of vacation and they don't even have the courtesy to call to let me know that they aren't coming. Horrible product. Horrible service. Avoid them at all cost!

Ordered kitchen cabinets last September. Cabinets finally came in March supposed to be Feb. even had 2 different dates and no one at the factory had the correct date. When the cabinets came all were stained awful.. even had a few that were a different brand mixed in! We had to have the rep from Diamond come to my home and check them out to advise factory how to fix this.He felt all new order should be placed. Factory agreed all new order. At one point quality control from Indiana wanted to come touch them up! Absolutely not! Even the store agreed that would not help so my order was reordered! That put a few more weeks out for my project. Finally in June I got the 2nd order .. while they were loading up first kitchen that I warehoused in my garage since March we opened up a few boxes they all were just as bad as first kitchen. It was time for me to be done with this! I got ahold of store and rep and wanted full refund plus compensation. They sent this issue on to corporate. Finally a date for pick up and a refund but the only compensation they felt was fair was 15% off my next purchase.. not going to have another purchase! This has been such sad, frustrating and a financial hardship and for multimillion dollar companies to not give me any financial compensation is so unfair! I have just placed a new order through a different company and guess what, prices have risen since last September! Thanks to Lowes/Diamond more out of my pocket! First photo is sample door I ordered from factory the rest is what they sent me!! I really wish this would’ve been done correctly it would’ve been a beautiful kitchen. Sorry Lowes you lost my business!…… I see the response, not sure calling would change anything corporate (Johnny) told me 15% off is all they would do and if I didn’t take that the case was closed. That was in August. I am now just getting around to doing reviews we have had some family medical emergencies.

Customer is not number one at this store.We were looking at wall tiles and were asked to exit the aisle so they could bring in a pallet. While i am aware that stocking is important, they could have waited until i was no longer in the aisle to close it off. My spouse works for a competitor but they didn't have what i wanted. I had just found what i wanted hanging on the wall and as i was reaching to grab the actual item to look at it closer was when i was asked to exit the aisle. i am not from Ames so it was a drive to get there. I will now either settle for something at the competitor or drive much farther to another Lowes for my item. I will not return to this store in the future. If this is how all Lowes operate, i will no longer shop at any of them.

I needed 2 things and couldn't find either one. Not because they weren't there, just because I'm not familiar with most hardware store type things. I found Josh as soon as I walked in. I needed a certain type of screw to attach license plates to my car. There must have been hundreds of screws to choose from. Josh found exactly what I needed while I looked for jumper cables. As I was still looking for cables he came and found the perfect set for me! I just had to pay. Thanks Josh and Lowes!

I helped my grandmother with a large purchase of a dishwasher, washer + dryer, range, and microwave (totaling about $4,000) on November 8, 2023. The initial install of the washer+dryer and range was frustrating as they said they would come between 12-4pm and didn’t show up until 6:15pm, and didn’t even fully install the dryer. That experience pales in comparison to the issues with the installation of the microwave. The third party installers were supposed to deliver and install her microwave on November 30, but have not shown up during the scheduled delivery time 4 times in a row. They didn’t even call her to let her know they weren’t coming- she had to reach out to them after the fact to attempt to reschedule. There currently is a delivery date “set” for 12/27 which we doubt will actually happen based on how they’ve been so far.Tl;dr: third party installation service is a joke, and Lowe’s official delivery+install is frustrating and incomplete. Take your business elsewhere, we definitely wish we would have.*editing to add that the in store employees were great, especially the younger girl at customer service who helped us with our initial purchase. Incredibly frustrated that my 84 year old grandmother who lives on her own doesn’t have all of the working appliances she’s paid for and Lowe’s doesn’t seem to care about accountability or customer service after they have your money. Based on other reviews we don’t expect any form of rectification on their part, and just hope this serves to warn others to go elsewhere for appliance purchases.*

WE went to Lowes to purchase a refrigerator on 1/3/24. The one that we wanted was not in stock and there were none at the warehouse so Aidan worked very hard to find one that was comparable to the one we wanted. We ended up purchasing the 2nd one and I just wanted to let you know how helpful Aidan was and how well he explained things to me. We received great customer service.

The most frustrating experience I've ever had with a company. We contracted with them in October of 2021 to redo our floors. Delivery got set back significantly (supply chain issues) but the real problems didn't start until the installation process began. We were given improper preparation instructions, so install got delayed a day. As I'm writing this, the job was supposed to be done weeks ago, but I'm still missing a few pieces of trim and stair nose on our stairs, and despite more phone calls than I can count I have no idea when the installation for that will be completed. Additionally, the floor throughout 1/4 of our house is very clearly crooked. Lowes, and the subcontractor for flooring they use in Ames have decided that they will not do anything to rectify the problem of the crooked floor. I consulted with the installer they had out to install the trim, as well as a former flooring professional here in Ames who both agreed the job was improperly done, and needed to be fixed. I'm beyond frustrated at this point, and urge anyone considering using Lowes for flooring to think twice.

Very disappointed with the Lowe's store in Ames Iowa. Check out line in garden area 6 deep so went inside to pay for single item. No checkers on duty, told I have to use self checkers. Scanned item but couldn't pay cash on that one. Had to wait for help to cancel purchase and get in line in another self check aisle. Very very frustrating!!One star is too many!Also check your prices people. Same size container of Preen at Menards is $5.00 cheaper!

Delivery Service is iffy!Should be zero stars, but I had to pick one in order to submit the review.Ordered a new washer and dryer and it was scheduled for delivery on Nov 30...nothing shows up...no phone call. I had to call Lowes and was told by customer service they don't know why it wasn't delivered and said delivery would call me in the morning on Dec 1. No call on Dec 1...I had to call customer service again and they told me it can take up to 72 hours for delivery to reach out...which is now Tue or Wed of next week. This is crazy...and I already got rid of my old washer and dryer.

If you are a vendor don't try to make your delivery early. Even though they say receiving is 7-4 they don't show up until 10-15 min after 7, so no point showing up until 7:30 setting you back all day.

The representatives in store were actually great! The delivery service is terrible. So far Lowe's has scheduled delivery 4 times, once in a time frame that I specifically informed them that I wouldn't be home, and the other 3 times they brought a damaged refrigerator. It seems that purchasing a new undamaged item and having it delivered is borderline impossible. I called the store and nobody would answer in the major appliances department. It seems like there is a lot of "I'm sorry that happened" but no real "we will take care of this". Delivery people offer 15% off for damaged items. I purchased a new appliance! If I wanted to shop damaged items I would have done so! Currently stuck waiting on a new delivery date. This isn't my first experience with terrible delivery and follow up from here. More than likely the last time I ever deal with this store. There is no accountability and there seems to be no effort to help someone once they have your money. Menards is not far away. Maybe that's the best option.

So I purchased a zero turn lawnmower from this store. Employees were helpful. I received the delivery on schedule but then the next day I put gas in the tank followed all instructions to start it but when I did start it would not stay running. Finally after my 3rd or 4th try and holding the key in the run position it stayed running so I was able to use it. Mowed my lawn that one time on the 28th of July. Now today I wanted to mow my lawn again and I can get it to start but again it won't stay running. I call this store and speak with someone in Lawn and garden and she told me that I needed to contact the manufacturer before I call Lowe's that she could not help me any further. So I called customer care from my receipt and they have taken care of me. Now I'm wondering if this store cares for their customers. Very upsetting.

Stocking in the middle of the day, closing down half a dozen aisle.Workers who are inconvenienced showing up for work, know where nothing is, and are just annoyed to talk to customers. (Seriously, avoid asking Karen for any help if you go here).Menards is a block away, cheaper, and has really great and helpful workers.This store management is atrocious.

Bought new washer and dryer at Lowe's in Ames, IA. It was broken from the get go. Doesn't spin out and it leaks water even when not in use. Because we didn't get it returned in 48 hours we had to go through manufacturer. Manufacturer has now rescheduled twice and we've been 26 days without a washing machine! Tried to call Lowe's today. Called 4 times and every time it rang until it timed out. Terrible experience. Our fridge is on the fritz and our upright freezer quit working. We will not be going back to Lowe's! Looks like Menard's just gained a new customer.

I asked for help with paint. Was told that the one I purchased was a good paint and that it included a primer. After putting 3 coats of paint of a darker orange over a light gray and the color still coming through after the paint dried I went back to Lowes as i was told to do by Valspar. The girl at the counter told me that all cans stated there is a primer but it's not actually a primer it just helps the paint go on easier. If you have staff working in the paint department you should probably make sure they are trained.

Those (2) gentlemen went above and beyond for me. Lowe's please find out who they are and do something nice for them.

I was in the Ames, Ia store this morning. I asked Chris if he could tell me if there were any more large Craftsman tool boxes in the back. He said he would gladly help me. He scanned the one in my cart and was able to tell me there were 5 more in store. He located an electric ladder, blocked off the aisle, safety reasons, and promptly grabbed a box of 3 more for me. I offered to put 1 back on the shelf and he said that's ok, I can do that. He was incredibly nice to assist me and not make me feel like I was bothering him. He is a great example of a very helpful friendly employee. 😁

I wish I could give zero stars. Purchased the following:Oven - Found out upon delivery that the back was smashed. Returned and still waiting for a replacement.Refrigerator - Found out upon delivery that the handles were dented. Someone had clearly wrapped an appliance dolly strap around them. Supposedly, new ones are being ordered.Washer/Dryer (stack on) - I was not at home when they were delivered. When I got home and tried them, the washer worked fine, but the dryer did not turn on. I found out later the delivery guy knew it didn't turn on, but he didn't tell anyone at my house after he delivered it. The service guy who was supposed to take a look at it refused to come because it was too far for him to drive. My electrician got it going at my expense.Dishwasher - Got stood up twice by the installer. Third time he showed, and it works well.Microwave oven - It works fine, but the trim kit we ordered arrived bent in the box, and it had to be returned. I have no idea when a new one will arrive.This has been a truly awful experience, and once these issues are resolved, I will sever ties with Lowes forever.

I bought a dishwasher from this Lowe's a month ago. It was installed a few days later, but it didn't work. However, I had to wait for the installation crew to come back and make sure it was installed correctly. They verified it was the machine that was broken and waiting for another one has been a mess going on 3 weeks now. I'll occasionally get an update from Lowes that proves to be incorrect. Received two phone calls telling me when I would get scheduled for an install, only to not get scheduled at all. Instead, I've had to constantly call and find out when I'm getting the dishwasher that I paid for a month ago. The latest phone call today said that my install was scheduled, but when I was connected to the installation crew to learn the day and time, I was told I'm not scheduled because I first have to speak with some marketing manager, who apparently is going to call me sometime today.To sum up, I paid several hundred dollars to have a broken dishwasher installed in my house. I'm still waiting for Lowe's to actually bring me one that works. Communication with their installation crew isn't helpful at all. Finally, Lowe's has offered me absolutely nothing to try and make this right, not even a working dishwasher that I've paid for.

Buying all new appliances for my kitchen has been a nightmare. I went in the store thinking it would be easier to get everything squared away rather than figure it out myself online. After spending almost $4000 to have my old appliances taken out and the new ones put in, the delivery guys show up(at 2pm when I was originally told 8am)with my new appliances… but that’s the thing, they were only delivery drivers and don’t remove or install appliances. I already waited to receive my appliances, had to take an entire day off of work, and now I would have to get back on the schedule to try and work out when an installer could get out. Which would be at least another month. Okay. It is all just so frustrating. I tried speaking to a manager of the store to get it all worked out but I felt like the whole conversation went so poorly and I found her to be so rude. I also spoke with roger in deliveries, who helped me schedule a return. He was incredibly helpful and over the top kind. That has been my one positive experience through lowes. I will be taking my 4000 dollars elsewhere, and have no problems going to Menards or even doing an extra bit of driving to Home Depot.

Customer service is becoming a joke. Went in to an air conditioning unit, a portable one, but I'm directed to the wrong place. Then I asked another employee and they look it up online and said that it's only online only. I checked the website again and finally found where it was after it closed so my entire trip and time spent in the store was pointless and I learned that I shouldn't rely on the employees here for help.

Favorite major home improvement store for paint and I have found their prices for some items cheaper and I don't have to mess with rebate paperwork. I have received good help with questions about types of paint to buy for special projects in the home. They have even specially mixed to color for me. I find them so helpful.There is less help at the checkouts similar to many places but I have learned to like using the self checkout as it is so quick and easy.
