I lost my younger pup to Cancer and my older dog, Luke, was Lost. Already high on his list, Luke became more protective of me - has always been my self appointed protector. Had some issues at the County Shelters with the people around as we did Meet-n-Greets. Was ready to give up, but the Gentleman at PAWS monitoring the Meet-n-Greet listened to me and seen Luke's closeness to me and took his time and a few extra steps to get Luke and the new dog to interact. Was given go ahead to take new dog home for 3 days. All went well and the two dogs are starting to play together even more. I have adopted the new Pup who I renamed DexterPeople at PAWS were very Nice, took time to explain everything, and like I said, gentleman doing Meet-Greet was Fantastic, knowledgeable, and understanding.Should I ever want another dog I think I'm starting Here at PAWS .

I had filled out an application for one of their senior small dogs and called to see if I could meet him. The woman on the phone berated me because one of my dogs isn’t neutered and they just don’t understand why. She wasn’t interested in “why” and pretty much accused me of being part of the unwanted puppy population. We are responsible dogs owners…we’re not the problem. If she had taken the time to call my vet she would’ve gotten the “why” and realized that the dog would be going to a wonderful caring home. I’ve been adopting senior dogs for a few years and have never been spoken to like that. You’ve lost a customer but more importantly a loving home for one of your dogs.

Denied adoption because we keep our animals outside while at work instead of inside in a kennel. They think, after a dog has slept all night in a kennel and then is waken up for breakfast and put right back into the kennel all day, is better than having a nice big pen outside with a custom built dog house, specifically made so that they are out of the elements. They way they spoke to my father made us both feel like we are abusive or neglect animals. So a dogs life would be better to be locked in a kennel all night and all day and having a few hours to explore and exercise just to be put back in the kennel for bedtime. When we get off of work we would let our previous dogs out of the nice big pen and let them roam the 1 acre yard until they wanted to come inside or , guess what? Go back into their pen because it's a comfortable place for them. All our previous dogs lived this way and never had any major problems and all died due to old age.UPDATE: Adopted a 3 and 1/2 year old cattle dog (obviously not from LakeShore because they think a dog wouldn't want to be outside) who loves to be outside in our yard. She would rather go into the pen, outside, than to go inside and be in her kennel all day. She is helping our puppy with her separation anxiety as well. Thanks for absolutely nothing LakeShore Paws.

After several visits and a few months I finally found my perfect dog thanks to thier patience. Everyone is wonderful there. You can foster a dog to see if it will work out, which is what I did.all dogs are spayed, neutered, microchips and all shots given. Tested for heartworm also.my dog did develope kennel cough, noticed couple days after adoption. They supplied me with antibiotics and cough pills. I'll end with nice visiting rooms and clean.

The staff were knowledgeable about the 3 dogs we were considering and offered us a lot of insight to select the best match to our current dog and our family. They sent us with medical records and transition food and were extremely responsive, friendly and helpful. We are extremely happy with our new family member!

I got my dog Oreo from there I think almost 2 years now. My apartment complex has A LOT of breed restrictions and I had been looking for months for a dog. it seemed like every shelter I went to didn't really care for real about their animals or finding home for them. Because of COVID I was hit with excuses like I couldn't meet a dog before I applied for one, or even though their add said they were an acceptable breed for my landlord they actually weren't. This place was right around the corner and I wish I came there sooner. As soon as I met Oreo I knew he would come home with me. He is the perfect dog and I couldn't ask for anyone better. He literally makes my life better and it's all because of this place. They let you keep the dog for a few days before you actually pay for them which I liked because I needed to see how he would do with my cat. and because he was heart worm positive they took care of his tests and medicines until he was clear of it. I couldn't have asked for a better place or a better dog. He's the most well behaved, quiet, protective dog and I cherish every moment with him!

Lakeshore paws works hard to match the humans needs and the Animals needs. They get to know their dogs and the dogs character before setting appointments to meet the animals. We filled out an interview questionnaire and based on our answers they could tell us if the dogs we were looking at were a good fit. We adopted an amazing dog! I will go there every time.

UPDATE: After Tinkerbell’s death, I decided to adopt again. This they they had pulled several dogs from a high kill shelter in GA. I instantly fell in love with Ernie (Ernest) a Maltese mix after meeting several dogs. I adopted him and I could never be happier.I adopted Tinkerbell from here! I am in love. Thank you Lakeshore Paws.

I have nothing good to say about this organization. They act as if they do what is right but they don’t. My grandfather was diagnosed with lung, and prostate cancer and given 7-10 days to live. His dog was taken to paws because he was taken into the hospital. Once Paws got his dog and did all their health examinations on her they found out that she also has cancer. My family reached out and asked if we could get the dog back just for his last few days alive and they told us no, it’s not in the best interest of the dog. So therefore my grandfather can die without his dog by his side, while the dog also dies of cancer. So therefore my grandfather gets to die without his dog by his side and some family can enjoy his dog for a very short period of time before she passes away as well.

Staffed by volunteers that truly do care about the best placement for their dogs. I spoke at length with staff over the phone and found the perfect fit for our family! We couldn't have asked for a better experience in adopting our Biscuit!

I decided that this year I really needed a dog for mother's day. We looked at so many dogs at so many places, then walked in Lakeshore Paws and met Trevor. We fell in love immediately. There was a lot of steps to go through before getting to take him home, but that means the staff there really care who is taking these dogs. We brought Trevor home and he fit in immediately. He found his space, he is cautiously getting to know his cat sister, he is the most well behaved dog we have ever had. There is almost no way to describe his amusing politeness. After seeing the way the staff at Lakeshore Paws interact with the dogs, I'm sure they are the ones to credit for this amazing training. So I highly recommend getting your next pooch from them! You will not be let down!!

I adopted a dog from here a year ago. I understand that it’s a shelter and that they might have challenges but I hen the outright lie to people who are getting dogs from them it’s not okay. I was told that my dog was going to be neutered and to bring him back for his appointment. This was a lie. They didn’t set it up and when I tried calling, I have not been able to reach them by phone. The lie was unnecessary.

Not very honest people.gave us dogs that need medical stuff done.told us any pre exisiting issues would be covered and they do not once u adopt them.they say they only cover what their vet finds wrong with them.how does a vet miss ear infections and loose teeth and heart murmurs.now were stuck with thousuands of dollars to have their teeth removed blood works chest ex rays antibiotics....they lied and never vetted the dogs we got.the owner admits it.they have further health issues and want to offer the adoption fee back which isnt going to cover anything.the owner told me they went by what the other shelter told them that they were healthy.they arent offering to cover any pre existing conditions like they told us and said they only cover what their vets find and now telling me they didnt even have their vet check them out .Liars!!

These guys are awesome! I saw a photo of a dog on their FB page (and fell in love with her instantly), and drove 2 hours the next day to meet her. I brought Zena to her new forever home that same day. 🐾 💜 We love her so much!

I will never adopt from here & if you do, please be careful & do your research.A family member was recently volunteering at Lakeshore. She ended up falling in love with one of the dogs & ended up adopting the dog. She was told the dog had arthritis but after myself & another family member saw the dog, we suggested a second opinion. She took the dog back to the vet Lakeshore recommended & the dog has hip dysplasia. The vet said that Lakeshore knew this as well. She reached out to one of the vet techs at Lakeshore about this who said she’d call her back later & then never did.Lakeshore also had puppies with Parvo while my family member was volunteering & Lakeshore didn’t tell anyone the puppies had Parvo. My friend adopted a dog from them a few years ago who ended up testing positive for heart worm. Lakeshore refused responsibility & while my friend still paid for treatment, the dog passed shortly after.

A wonderful organization. We adopted a lab from them that was due to have a leg removed shortly after we visited. My wife and I took him home that day, Lakeshore footed the bill for Vader's surgery, and dude couldn't be happier. We love Lakeshore Paws.

Amazing place. They're honest about the dogs that they have and will do their best to advise you on what would fit with your lifestyle. Got this beautiful boy about a year and a half ago and he's perfect.

As a general rule, I almost never give a 5 star because I feel there can always be room for improvements. However, I'm giving Lakeshore Paws a 5 star for the incredible work they do, the caring and helpful staff and the 'Pet Pantry' they offer to pet owners who are having economic difficulties. Because of their pantry, many people are able to keep their beloved pets and care for them properly. Like a food pantry, their pet pantry is possible because of donations from wonderful people in the community. However, if someone is just no longer able to take care of their furry friend, Lakeshore Paws is a no kill rescue shelter and they are able to care for their rescued or surrendered animals through donations from generous animal lovers in the community. I encourage those people who happen to be blessed with a little extra to donate what you can to keep the animals cared for. They can use cleaning supplies, food, toys, kennels, beds, blankets, collars, leashes, harnesses, leads and anything else that can be used in the care of animals. Don't forget, your donations could also be used by someone in financial hardship that loves their fur baby. If there were more places like Lakeshore Paws, a greater number of pets as well as people would be much better for it.

Wouldn't adopt a dog here solely based on folk behind the counter. Some of you need better people skills and it shows in your reviews. Common courtesy goes a long way in today's age. Which you clearly aren't living in.
