I used to shop Bethesda all the time. Huge selection and great prices. Now that Able light took over, the selection is much less and some of the prices are ridiculous! So I usually skip them and go to others.

I’m not one to usually leave a review. And I genuinely enjoy this establishment because I always find what I’m looking for when I shop. But I recently was in the store & was asked if I qualify for the over 55 senior discount. I am 30 & look 30 so this was very rude. I gave the woman working a look & she said “well I ask everyone” but she shouldn’t be asking someone who CLEARLY isn’t even 40 this. She said she would ask a seven year old.. which a doesn’t make any sense to me & seems like a bit of a waste of time. I would recommend talking with your staff about this because it is very rude.

I will no longer purchase from nor donate to this thrift store. I have had 2 extremely negative experiences.1. While I was holding my 11 month old baby, the employee at the front register asked me in front of a long line of patrons, when my baby was due. Clearly, I was not pregnant. When I told her that I was not expecting, she stammered a bit but made no effort to apologize for her insanely rude question.2. My 5 year old daughter and I were at the end of the aisle by the toys and she had moved a very small toy from the toy shelf to right in front of the game shelf, and then she wandered away from the toy as all 5 year olds do. An employee (Juliane) then burst out of the back room and asked my daughter 3 times if she had finished with the toy. Juliane was very hostile and demanding with my 5 year old. When I realized that the hostility was directed toward my daughter, I told the employee that yes she was finished with the toy. Then Juliane said, "well let's put our toys back where they belong" in a very cynical tone.I then spoke with another employee about the incident and asked her to let the owner know what had just happened. However, that employee went to the back room and told Juliane instead of the owner. So, Juliane again burst out of the back room in a very confrontational manner. When I explained that I did not appreciate her speaking to me or my daughter with such rudeness, she immediately became defensive and told me that she was trying to keep the area safe and that the kids weren't supposed to touch the toys. I am surprised that with all of the issues that the store has, that one of their major priorities is policing their toy rack. My daughter hadn't done anything wrong except mistakenly moved a toy from point A to point B. This very defensive employee told me that she wasn't being rude and that she talks to her own kids that way. Obviously, Juliane and I do not share the same parenting values by any stretch of the imagination.So, the moral of the story is I guess that this store exists for single or married people who do not have children with them, and who have also never been pregnant with a child or postpartum.I hope this store can come forth with a better value system in regard to how they treat parents and children.Fortunately, there are many of thrift stores to choose from in the Valparaiso area so that we do not have to give Abel Light our business.

I will not come back to this store! I witness a sales associate with a bright red sweater on today bully a child into putting an item back that she had set next to their mom. I've never seen anybody talk to a child like that before! Lucky for her that wasn't my child! This poor mother had two other kids there her and a handful of things to purchase. This toy her child had brought over she said they could buy as well. This employee was so rude to this child! When the mother stepped in this red sweater employee was downright confrontational and actually seemed to get more aggressive. It was horrible. Several people commented and told the employee she was out of line. She was rude, belligerent and obnoxious. That poor mother put their stuff down and left. We did the same. Paul used to be in charge of this place as a needs to know about it because they lost at least two customers and two families with donations. This place is not what it used to be.

My only complaint about this store is the price stickers! They never peek off easily and have ruined several items that I've purchased. They have even ripped paint off of items. :(

Wanted to support locally and I found exactly what I needed! Everyone who worked there was super sweet and it was very organized. Actually color coordinated and by size. Definitely I will be coming back!

worst possible customer service in the whole entire world. i walked up to the register because one of the ladies told me i could leave my big mirror up there. once i got there, two ladies rudely told me to wait because the register is broken. i asked if i could leave me mirror there, because i didn’t want to check out yet and she looked at me and told me she’ll be right with me. i looked past it, but then i stood at the jewelry counter for a good ten minutes while they chatted and blatantly ignored me. i spoke up several times and asked for help and they ignored me. once i finally got their attention, they managed to drop my mirror that i had left up there and were laughing saying they almost broke it. i asked for something from the case, and she acted very bothered and inconvenienced. she told me i couldn’t annunciate words appropriately. overall decent selection, but wow these volunteers need to be seriously evaluated. so rude!!!!!!!!!!

I'm blessed by being in The Bethesda Thrift Shop. It's a super place. Peaceful some of the greatest staff I've had the experience of being served by. Great clothes household items and many treasures. Great prices and clean. Well stocked and fairly priced items. Everyone is kind helpful and fun to shop with. Overall a wonderful experience.

Their selection is so good! Prices are great and I was pleasantly surprised that you can try on the clothing, which then caused me to buy more than I expected, but I love all the clothes I got. Also, the staff is so welcoming and wonderful. 🤗

Very very friendly staff / volunteers. If you've ever been there, you know what a treasure Jennifer is. She is always going to compliment you and she's very sincere. While other thrift shops are raising prices, they seem to be having even more sales.

This is a great place. It is for charity and it will often carry nicer items and good clothing. Its daily sales make for great deals. It is often a new store every day as people donate often. When I am in town, I really enjoy going there! Highly recommend it!

Prices are great. Most of the staff are friendly. I've found some great deals over the years. Wednesday is senior citzen day, this shop has changed over the years, much easier to shop now, the only thing that i wouldn't have changed is the mirror they took down, they only have 2 dressing rooms and they are quite busy, so i really appretiated the fact that you could check out that hat, coat or any other item that you didnt need to undress to try on.

While I am not a customer that purchases items, I do donate. Stopped the other am a few minutes after they opened. There was only one person working in the back, I asked for help to unload my car full of Xmas items and she stopped what she was doing to assist. Since the funds from the items sold stay in the community to help those not as fortunate I appreciate what they do for the community. Thanks you are a blessing.

Excellent thrift store. Clean and spacious for starters. The clothing racks are well organized by sizes/colors plus the quality of items is typically above average. Nice variety of household items from dishes to books to fabrics.

Nice place but kinda small. I'd give it 5 stars if it weren't for the lady who greets everyone with empty compliments about their clothes or looks. Apparently, I'm handsome. I once heard her attempted to speak broken Spanish with 2 English speaking Hispanics. It was awkward.

Donate here. More than 1/3 of Goodwill's money goes to its admin, with the top person making over $300,000 a year. This place is volunteers who care for you and bend over backwards helping you. The staff is amazing, the people there are amazing, the book selection is great, and every penny actually goes to help people in Valparaiso and the surrounding area. I love the Goodwill staff, but if you want your donations to make a great different, go here!

Amazing people and very helpful staff. Found more than I expected and the prices were just right. I recommend shopping here if you want to find nice things for a bargain. I consider this the best thrift shop in town based on quality, quantity, and price.

I was not terribly impressed with this thrift store. The book selection was poor. There were tons of spots dripping in the ceiling which was pretty odd. The place seemed a bit in disarray because of this, which isn't the very appealing when you're already looking at buying used things. I didn't see anything j really wanted so moved on pretty quickly.

They have a good sized store but nothing of any significance. Plus when there is something that's decent its grossly overpriced. The staff is very friendly but its not a place I would lean on visiting frequently.

This is a great place I go to all the time for clothes, jackets, sheets, dishes and much more when you don't have much money to spend, you can get some nice stuff along with furniture at times. They give different sales all the time. I recommend this place hands up.
