The most amazing staff volunteers and overall experience we have ever had to include being added to the emergency foster Apollo is absolutely adorable and is thriving and the most dapper and vocally sassy little beagle mix that we absolutely adore Emma and so does are 7 year old English mastiff mix they are two peas in a pod I wish that we could set up a live cam to directly feed it to you all of the wonderful ladies that helped us in adopting "Clover" Apollo, so that they may see the daily shenanigans he and his big sister get up to on a daily basis!!!When he first came home he would eat all of his food and then I walked in and saw him on his tippy toes under neath Athena eating out of her bowl directly between her front paws and under her giant chest as she was eating out of her elevated dog food!!! I literally cried!!! She has NEVER LET ANYONE SHARE HER FOOD, EXCEPT MY RECENTLY DECEASED HUSBAND AND I, AND HERE IS THIS LITTLE SILENT DOG THATS PERFECTLY CALM AND HADN'T MADE A SINGLE PEEP FOR THE FIRST 4 DAYS WANTING TO BE A BIG BOY AND EAT WITH HIS SISTER!MOVE FORWARD A FEW DAYS AND HE HAS FIGURED OUT HOW TO CLIMB ONTO HER ELEVATED BED WITH HER THERAPEUTIC MATTRESS SND HER CACHE OF TOYS, AND HE'S BARKING HIS HEAD OFF BECAUSE SHE WANTS ON HER BED AND HE'S REFUSING TO GIVE UP HIS VICTORY!SO SHE JUST GETS INTO BED WITHY SON, AN OFFENSE HE CAN NOT LET SLIDE AND NEEDS TO RECTIFY THAT HE IS HIS FATHER AND NO ONE ELSE'S! HIS NEW SISTER GENTLY PLACES A PAW ON HIM MUZZLE AND PINS IN SHUT SO HE CAN NO LONGER TELL HER WHO IS AND ISN'T BOSS! HE CONCEEDS AND THEY BOTH FALL ASLEEP WITH THEIR PERSPECTIVE BODY PARTS NEEDING TO TOUCH THEIR DAD/BUBBIES!!!!HE CAME WITH A PRETTY BIG BAG OF HILL SCIENCE DOG FOOD AND AFTER LEAVING THE HUMANE SOCIETY WITH EVERYTHING TYPE OF PAPER WORK YOU COULD IMAGINE, WE HEADED HOME TO PETSMART TO GET HIM HIS OWN STUFF! ROLLING OUT WITH MY BANK ACCOUNT CRYING, WE HEADED HOME AND NOTICED THAT APOLLO WASN'T NECESSARILY PUTTING ANY FORM OF WEIGHT ON AS WE CONTINUED TO FEED HIM THE HILL SCIENCE DOG FOOD....SO WE BEGAN THE TRANSITION OVER TO PUR GRAIN FREE, AND ALL NATURAL INGREDIENTS FOOD WITH ZERO FILLERS! NOT ONLY DID HE STOP EATING SUCH LARGE QUANTITIES WITH ZERO FORWARD PROGRESS, HE BECAME MORE ALERT AND PLAYFUL, HIS HAIR WAS LOOKING SHINY AND WAS EVEN SOFTER THAN IT WAS WHEN WE PICKED HIM UP! HIS GROWTH WAS STAGERING AFTER WE MADE THE FULL SWITCH! NO MORE BALOTED TUMMY AND RAIL THIN SKIN AND BONES, HE BEGAN TO BUILD LEAN MUSCLE AND AN EVEN DISTRIBUTION OF HEALTHY WEIGHT, THIS TEETH ARE GROWING LIKE CRAZY!ANYWAY, WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN GIGANTIC FANS AND SUPPORTERS OF NO KILL SHELTERS, AND THE REHOMING OF ALL ANIMALS BECAUSE NO MATTER WHAT I TRULY BELIEVE THERE IS A COMPANION OUT THERE FOR EACH AND EVERY ANIMAL! INCLUDING US, LOL..... JUST LIKE HUMANS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SOUL SHATTERING LOSS OF AN IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER, ANIMALS THAT ARE ADOPTED HAVE A PROFUND AMOUNT OF LOVE AND APPRECIATION FOR THEIR HUMANS THAT WERE THEIR BRIGHT SHINNING LIGHTS OF LOVE, HOPE, COURAGE, INSPIRATION AND COMPASSION!THAT ENTIRE PROCESS BEGINS WITH THOSE INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE PUT THERE 24/7 RESCUING ANIMALS THAT HAD LOST ALL HOPE OR THAT HAD BEEN THROWN AWAY LIKE TRASH, or surrendered due to life's unexpected curve balls!Initially we'd been going there on a regular basis trying to find a senior dog that was closer to our fur Daughter's age of now 7yrs old! But sadly we'd been unsuccessful at finding any companions that would give her the time of day or would freighten her! She's an EXTREAMILY tender hearted and laid back quirky dog, that does suffer from her own unique personality traits! After years of no success we'd arrived to look as a group of males because she does not do well around other females, and there was this trio of tiny babies in a playpen tucked far away from prying eyes, and I instantly knew that this particular one was OUR NEW ADDITION! WITHOUT KNOWING THE SEX, I KNEW HE WAS A BOY AND WHEN READY WOULD BE COMING HOME!THE REST IS HISTORY!

I believe they do well by their animals, but answering/messaging is not good.I’d recommend to others that if they have their heart set on a specific animal to go in person and not speak over the phone. One afternoon we went before closing to visit the animals. Our family fell in love with a cat.My 13 year old spent the rest of that night writing a game plan on how he would take care of the cat. Many hours were spent in discussion trying to convince his father.I called the next day and left a message asking to keep the cat on hold. The weather was bad and we couldn’t get on the road.We had been told that once we made a decision they could place the cat on hold for 24 hours. My son called his grandparents and friends , we kept looking at the cats photo on the website, and my son prepared by doing extra chores.I called the humane society multiple times.I warned my children that I hadn’t been able to speak to anyone, but since I had left a message the day before it should be ok.Our very excited family of 6 went in with a cat carrier to be told “I’m sorry he was JUST adopted.”I have some very broken hearted tear faced children. This is a life lesson and we are telling our children that it’s just how things go sometimes. Maybe it’s a sign that we don’t need another pet.We hadn’t planned on adopting, but had fallen for this specific cat. Therefore our son quickly carried out the empty cat carrier before anyone could see his tears. We hope this cat went to a good home and we are thankful that so many animals are being adopted! However, I do hope they can improve their answering system and listen to messages each day. It’s going to be a long tearful weekend for our family.

they are always so rude, never say hello or ask to help. also are completely unaware of what animals they have. curly haired lady has been consistently dismissive and rude the three times I have come. would never recommend and they starve their animals. One dog we saw on the website was a healthy weight and then at the shelter we could see its ribs when it had been there for months. poor customer service, no wonder they’re above capacity when they can’t treat customers with basic human decency.

Very rude and dismissive. Stood at the front counter and wasn’t acknowledged. Just to be clear I’m speaking about the brown haired lady. The blonde women was kind. Do better as a humane society!! Key word HUMANE!

Got myself a kitty from here. It was so hard to choose, all the cats in the cat condo were extremely sweet. The cats all seemed healthy and happy. Adoption was an extremely easy process, and they are very fast.

Its a amazing place! We got our first cat, Barbara, there. She’s a little scared, but she’s adjusting! The place is so tidy and organized now! It’s a really nice place to a adopt pets. The old building was a little bit smelly, but the new one is just amazing! The people there are sooo nice and answer all the questions they can, so wanna adopt a forever friend? Why don't you go to the Humane Society! Really nice place with just incredible, caring people that really care about their animals! ^^

I own a concrete Statues business I was there one day last week left a message with one of the employees haven't heard anything I want to see if you be interested in selling rememberance stones for pets and family members. I know that there's no one selling at that part of town. I think will be a Win Win 90% will go to the Humane society to help with adoption fees for the pets that been there the longest? ( Pogue's concrete stones and Statues We are local) Sincerely William Pogue

I love how much they care about each and every animal that comes through the shelter. If you talk to many of the staff, they still remember the dogs and their names many years later. The ladies at the front desk are always nice and if they do not know an answer or how to help they call other staff from various parts of the shelter for more information. It is not easy to run an operation like this, the wonderful people at THHS are doing an amazing job.My husband and I adopted the most amazing little dog from THHS in 2017, they were the easiest shelter to work with and our app was processed before he was ready to be released. I noticed a few reviews stating that the staff was unfriendly or gave them the wrong information... we did NOT experience anything like this. The staff are definitely overworked and not appreciated by the general public (the people who don't understand how much time, money, effort, etc. go into caring for a few hundred dogs/cats at one time) so it may have taken them a minute to answer a question or get us what we needed- which is completely understandable.I now, a year later, foster dogs for THHS from time to time and the staff continue to be a delight to work with.*side note: to the people that have complained about THHS not allowing them to get their animal back after 5 days.... dude... you had 5 whole days to get to the shelter and claim your pet. That's a whole business week that your pet had been missing and you couldn't bother to call/ go to the shelter... in my opinion you didn't care enough about said pet to deserve them in your life.

I don't know who runs this shelter but they will not return any phone calls and they do not answer the phone. I am in desperate need to take a dog to the shelter but they refuse to answer the phone or return calls. Also the only hour they are open is like 3 hours. I believe who ever the administrators are really needs to look into the way the shelter is being run.

Picked up a new addition to our family. A 15# orange cat. If you go here and want a cat, be sure to ask for Shannon. She was wonderful. On of their policies is that if you have dogs you need to bring on in for a visit to see how they interact. I live 2 hours away from this shelter, my dogs don't travel. She spoke with the manager and had that policy overridden. She was so great. She really knows cat behavior.Very clean facility. They have a good system of adopting animals. I filled out the application online. I was approved with no problem. They really want to make sure they have a good family match and the animals are going tobe taken care of.

The staff were extremely helpful and patient with us. We were able to adopt one kitty (Black) and one older cat (Amara). They were our best decision E-V-E-R and we're delighted to have them with us.

These people are beyond heartless. We found a pregnant cat outside. Didn't know she was infested with fleas. Brought her inside foe thr night and my kids were bit so bad. I was bit. My house got so covered on fleas in 1 night. I called the humane society told them how pregnant this cat is. Due any day and how I couldn't keep her due to the fleas biting my babies. And these people told us to throw her back outside they didn't have room. How heartless can you seriously be.

Willie here wasn't feeling well when I started fostering him a few months ago. You can see he moved from the bed I bought him the first day he was here to my bed. Helping him get better and fostering him has been so rewarding. I highly recommend adopting if you can, or fostering if you can't adopt. I can tell you from experience it's awesome!

Spayed cat I adopted is pregnant! Complained about her behavior as she’s also a wild cat and they said nothing. Would have been nice to know she was in heat that would have helped. Had stitches when I got her don’t know what for.

A great place to go and adopt a furbaby or two. The staff is caring, the place is clean. Go ahead and plan a visit today, maybe you can volunteer a few hours and help them out or maybe you're going there to adopt. Do you have spare cat or dog food to donate? Stop in today and donate some cat or dog food to the Terre Haute Humane Society today it would be deeply appreciated. Happy New Year everyone!!

We were looking for a friend for our pit bull. They took the time to share info and tell us good picks. We took our dog for 3 meet and greets to make sure our dog was good with the new friend. We brought the new dog home and he is so sweet and our dog is doing well with her new friend. Thanks for all your help.

The absolute worst place, in recent . ĺ family tried to do our part to help them. We agreed to foster 3 kittens for them for 3 weeks, until they reached 2lbs... 11 weeks later, we still have them and they won't take them back, they won't fix them, the won't answer or return calls or emails, we have to drag the cats there, for them to have an excuse, as to why they can't take their giant cats back. They're part maincoon, they're huge, and eat a ton. They won't pay fir any food or litter fot the cats thst the "forgot we had" and won't take back to adopt out. They're costing a fortune after 7 weeks past the original 3.I will no longer donate to THIS humane society. As they pawn them off on people trying to help them, and then ignore them and forget thru exist..each time you bring them in, they know nothing about them.Ii guess I'm going to sell them myself, to recoup what the humane society owes us.Go to Sullivan or qubache feline rescue, or anywhere but the place thst forgets their animals and takes advantage of those trying to help.

When we went in we were directed to a computer where you got to look at all the dogs and see their profile, we chose a few dogs and they took them out and we got to meet them. I think it is such a good idea! All the staff were so friendly and knew so much about each dog, you could tell they loved them. Also the kittys in the front are adorable! I recommend coming here for a friend, adopt don't shop!!
