Delightful local market. They try to be sustainable in every regard and are solar powered. Delicious fresh produce, local farmers, lunch items for a quick meal, or seating for catching some sun rays - this is the place to be.

I’m so happy to have found a coop like this. It is totally worth the 40 minute drive! Unusual foods that are difficult to find elsewhere and staff who actually know what they are selling. Not to mention quite a few local suppliers. Organic, locavore, seasonal, gluten free and vegetarian options as well. What more could you ask for?

Update 3/28/22: I made my annual visit and I still can’t believe how perfect this store is! The nicest employees and a template for what I hope my local coop will offer once it opens.Books, fair trade decor, blankets, the cutest Easter gift baskets, candles, the coziest sweatshirts, gluten-free vegan treats, the tastiest curried cashew hummus, kombucha offerings I’ve seen nowhere else, and gf & v hot soup. Okay, they also carry my favorite raw chocolate (Rawmio out of Illinois, not carried at ANY other health food store I’ve been to) and local moisturizers made by the Soapy Gnome and Sai Shakti.*Bernie 👀 has been relocated to the bathroom, causing me a mini heart palpitation when I forgot about him until I noticed him over my shoulder while washing my hands. 😳Oh my word! I stopped in on the way to my Airbnb and couldn’t have made a better decision! Bernie greeted me, beautiful fresh flowers and plants, lovely candles and coffee and vegan, gluten free, sugar free jam (which I’ve never seen for sale in all for my travels) and all the things I’d ever need to enjoy my little mini road trip for work. I’d stay in South Bend again anytime as long as I can visit the Purple Porch!

My son and I look forward to every Friday for our after work/school treats from here on way home. There aren't many places we can go to (at least conveniently or quickly) for not only vegan friendly but allergy friendly foods. My son and I look forward to our visits and every employee we have met has been so pleasant and helpful. I love the house made breakfast burritos and wraps to grab and go too. Grateful a place like this exists.

I had just driven 2.5 hours to town for an internship, the final portion of one of the longest weeks I've ever had. Was looking for something nice, quick, and easy to get for dinner when I came across Purple Porch about 45 minutes before closing. I cannot overstate how wonderful it was to walk in! It's a small shop but full of wonderful, high-quality things. Within 5 minutes I found 5 salads, two wraps, a loaf of bread, and a pack of dumplings that made my vegan heart swell. I know what I'm having for lunches this week! The wrap I had for dinner was very good; flavorful with lots of lettuce and a little tofu. Dumplings also great. So excited to come back!

Small Co-op in South Bend where you can find a variety of health food items, vegetables, fruits, soaps, essential oils, incense, skin care products, and many more.Don't forget to try their ready made sandwiches and salads.Their prices are bit higher side. Staffs are friendly, helpful, informative, and kind.

Love this option in the Downtown area - co-op, but also anyone can shop, not just co-op members!

This is my new favorite store! It has it ALL!! The staff are very friendly and efficient. They have a little bit of everything! If you need organic or vegetarian or if you want to support your local author or artist, the Purple Porch is the place to go! If you want a fresh cold beverage that is good for you and delicious too, get to this store! They have fresh coffee and great healthy salads too. The atmosphere is great. If you go, you won't be sorry.

This place rocks! Went for a walk. And ended up here. There was a handsome young man playing guitar and singing.that was delightful. And a awesome closing of my day. Inside the store is as unique as the name and the paint job. Love love love it! Will be going back soon.

Love the atmosphere and the selections. I've been trying to find rye flour for months and they have it in and bag the amount you need. So many different flours I will have to come back and try some others.

Our family loves coming to this place for buying organic groceries. My daughter and I enjoy going there for our breakfast burritos. The staff is always very friendly and very helpful if you have any questions. I like there's lots of people in there when we go sitting at the tables in enjoying their meals. I love her selection of different products and that they try to carry local as well.

What a wonderful store! I luckily found it while visiting South Bend for the weekend so I could restock our family snack bag. Great natural/organic grocery selection as well as a ready-to-eat food bar. Delicious salads & a fun Kombucha bar with 6 flavors to sample. I went with the ginger! I will flag this store for the next time we're in town.

I consider myself a gummy bear aficionado and they have THE BEST gummy bears around! All natural gummy bears here are packed with wayyy more flavor than any gummy bears I’ve had! Also they have pawpaws (aka the Indiana banana) during the ripe season which is a rare and special find!

They carry local foods and products. There's also pre-made foods like soups, salads, and breakfast. They have kambucha on tap. My photo is a poke bowl from PokeHale which is from a local pop up. Of you're vegan there's quite a bit of vegan products. I'm gluten-free and I find lots of GF bakery items here.

This place features a myriad of locally-grown produce, organic/natural foods, and cool people. Become a member-owner and get a discount once a month. Cool stuff.Best thing is they carry some harder-to-find stuff like canned jackfruit and vegan meats: stuff that make my life better. They also have delicious breakfast burritos and fresh kombucha if you're into that kinda stuff.Worst thing is it's super expensive. If you enjoy dollar bills and holding onto them this place is your enemy. However, the produce is all affordable and delicious.Overall, I think this place has become my favorite place to go to after work to pick-up the handful of things I need for dinner/lunch for the next day. A wonderful establishment.

Looooove this sweet little grocery store! Found some delicious vegan grab-and-go options for lunch and a variety of grocery items for our family’s dietary needs. Will absolutely stop here anytime I’m passing through south bend!

Fun store with a lot of high end, quality goods. The prices were a bit pricey on some things, but it’s convenience you pay for. Definitely a fun walkthrough to look through all their bulk items (spices, tea, soap, peanut butter, etc.) and goodies. A great place to find a quick gift (chocolates or a nice soap).

Great place to get coffee and meet for breakfast or healthy lunch. Absolutely wonderful breakfast burrito options in meat, vegan, gluten free and vegetarian ingredients. Also a handy place to pick up the locally made zen cafe coffees and violet sky chocolate as well as bulk nuts and cereals.

I was a member for 3 years. I’ve easily spent $10,000 plus. Today I was denied service because I have Cystic Fibrosis and choose to not wear a mask so my medical issues aren’t stirred into a frenzy. Worse yet, the employee at the register became argumentative; I’m simply coming in for a coffee with my toddlers. Sign on the window still says “Everyone Welcome” but I’m not allowed to shop here without a mask. Am I not everyone? Good luck staying in business. Sad heart over here.

The people who work here are very helpful. I was looking for vital wheat gluten and they didn’t carry it but they recommended another place nearby and I found it! Will definitely visit again. Also, awesome selection of vegan goodies, staples, etc!

Purple Porch Co-op is so welcoming! It is a little oasis in the ever-improving small city of South Bend. The cafe, Cafe Max, has delicious, high quality food, and in the store and the weekly Farmers Market it is possible to get just about everything I need there. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and diverse people are always gathering for lunch, coffee, or just chatting. It is one of my favorite places!

A fantastic grocery store near downtown SB. They offer dry goods, produce, bulk goods, dairy, and a wide array of prepared. They also have a few tables where you can eat. I recommend their garlic hummus and grass-fed beef chili. There are two drawbacks. First, as you might expect, prices are a bit high, but at least you're supporting a local, cooperatively owned business. Second, they don't sell wine or beer, which would be a superb addition.

This grocery store is great! The bulk dry goods section is cheap, and I can refill my Mason jars rather than get everything packaged. The people are extremely nice. Definitely recommend!

A wonderful place to shop and be a part of. A friendly co-op grocery store with a vast selection of products from fresh produce, salads, soups, dry goods hand made accessories, baked goods and just about everything in between. Organic and earth friendly. I strongly recommend the P.P.

Great community space. Wonderful salad bar, soups, and breakfast burritos. Wide selection of local sustainable natural and organic foods. Wednesday farmer's markets are the place to be. Healthy and tastey selection. Favorite spot of the community builders of South Bend.

Good place to find some obscure vegan options! They have food every day too (like dinner food, a scaled down version of the wholefoods bar). No alcohol for sale, which is a shame because they seem like the place to get some really cool obscure weird brews
