These people LOVE animals. They want to connect you with the right fit so both you and your new pet are happy. The community does a great job of supporting too. There are hiking trails to walk the dogs on. There are meet and greet areas for introducing your current pets to a new candidate, or for just hanging out and getting to know the new dog.All around a great staff and facility.

An amazing shelter, unlike Johnson county you can come in without an appointment, and see the dogs, take them for a walk, get to know them unlike Johnson who has an "animal behaviorist" who literally gives treats every time their dogs show affection, unfortunately that projects a false behavior from the animals. Shelby county has a much better approach to adopting, maybe thats why they don't have near the animals Johnson county does because Shelby county adopts theirs out faster. Highly recommend them if you're looking for a pet, Please check out their shelter, they have a friendly staff too.

I've only been here twice, I think. I'd totally go over a lot to play with the animals, if the journey there was easier. It's close enough to walk to from my house, but the roads aren't very wheelchair friendly. But I still got to play with the kittens! I hope that little brown and white one got adopted. He was really cute and social. We did get a little friend from there, though! Love him to death.

Friday my husband & i went in to get my dog cremated. He died from parvo… not having any knowledge of them not doing a nose print or foot print because he had parvo , we asked them & they said they would do it. I got a call on monday that my dog was ready . Went in paid for him & didn’t receive my nose print or foot print. Right then & there they told they couldnt get it because of parvo. But failed to tell us this friday before we left? Failed to tell us this that same day they called to tell me he was ready?

The shelter is very clean. The staff is excellent and friendly. They took good care of my fur baby who got lost until I got there to pick him up. They chipped my dog for me for only $25. Overall excellent review.

By far the worst place I’ve ever been. Repeatedly over chargers. Won’t give you a full bill when you go to check out. So rude and unhelpful at all. If you want your animals to stay alive stay far away from this place. Literally the most DISGUSTING vet office I’ve ever been in.

Volunteered 4 days of fall break, it was great just wish we lived someplace that allowed animals.

We adopted a cat from this Shelter last year and were there earlier this week looking for a dog to add to our family. We met an AMAZING dog named Charlie (Pit mix, under 2 years, very sweet, playful, and already has basic obedience), but were unable to take him home due to our dog not getting along with him (100% our dog's fault; Charlie was ready to play). The facility is very clean and the animals all appear to be well cared for. The staff were all extremely helpful and really seem to know the animals there. They have awesome cat rooms too! We'll definitely be back.

Terrible experience. Try to tell me I have a contract from where I got my cat. I just want to get my kitty an opportunity to get another family that will love her. This place made it seem and feel like they don't care about animals at all. I don't have any contract with the previous shelter and I live in Shelbyville. I paid cash for my tortie and got her vet paperwork thats it. Told me to drive to indy or back to the shelter I got her which neither are an option. They will take strays though. Go somewhere else.

Beautiful facilities. Very clean and the lady at the desk was very kind and helpful. Our dog got out of the house unbeknownst to us. Someone found him pretty quickly after he escaped and took him there. So very thankful for everyone who helped keep my baby safe and happily returned home!

If I could give this place a 0 I would! A dog got thrown out of a truck in front of me I’m shelby county I picked the poor baby up and called the on call animal control person and was told unless I took him back where I picked him up at they wouldn’t take him! Even tho he was not able to put much weight on his paw they still refused to help. Makes me sick.

My daughter & I visited the shelter today about possibly adopting a kitten. I have an adult spayed female cat & I thought a kitten would be better than adopting an adult cat. When we arrived no one greeted us. I told a man who worked there we were interested in a kitten. He pointed to the kitten room & said there’s only 2 left. When we entered the room it was filthy. Several dirty litter boxes lined one wall & the smell was horrible. There is no way the 2 tiny kittens dirtied all those litter boxes. The little kittens were huddled together on a filthy rug in the middle of the room. The smaller of the two is filthy, with feces stuck on its fur. The larger one was not as bad but needed attention. I don’t understand how a new facility could be that dirty. No one offered to give us information on either of the little ones. I was very disappointed. I expected so much more having followed the story of Justice & even donating to his care. I can’t imagine why or how they have let the kitten room get so bad. We left without learning anything about the little ones, even though I was interested in the smaller one. It may have missed out on a loving home due to the indifference of the staff we encountered today. 😥

I know this shelter does a lot of amazing things for its animals. That being said, the stray pick up is a mess. I understand it's stressful and frustrating on both ends when finding a stray. The way we were just talked to was infuriating. We took the time to get this dog out of the cold wet rain on a busy road, take it to see if it had a microchip, and posted on lost pets. There was no luck so we call the shelter. We didn't dump the dog at their door, we called. I've never been talked to like that in my life. The man handling these calls needs to be talked to. I dont expect them to be cheery and happy about yet another stray but this is what shelters are for. We exhausted every other options.we have 5 rescues at home, we can't do a 6th. Please train your staff better. Not all of us are irresponsible pet owners. We are just animal lovers trying to do the right thing.

My family and I have came here twice to look at the dogs. The staff is always so helpful and good with all the animals. They always have food and water and volunteers there to take dogs a walk and play with them. We took 4 different dogs out today to walk them and when we would put each one back in its pin, you don't have that dreadful feeling of leaving them. They are well cared for during their stay. They are also a no kill facility, which means they don't euthanize an animal so many days after its been there. The animals stay until they have a foster home or a fur ever home.Awesome job everyone!!

I've adopted a cat from the facility and the adoption process was very easy. The staff very friendly and willing to help. They take good care of the animals and truly enjoy their job. I like knowing that I can swing by and pet the cats and walk the dogs. This shelter is such a fantastic addition to the Shelbyville community and I strongly recommend all to try and adopt to this facility.

Very nicely updated facility. The man who works in there is completely rude and mean both in the shelter and when called to pick up strays. All interaction has been anxiety inducing. Seems to treat all people that way. The animals are definitely in a better atmosphere with the updates.

The new building looks great is very clean and organized and you can tell it's very new. The staff at the front desk when you walk in is very friendly and helpful. Then you just walk through the doors down the side and that's where they have all the new cages that allowed the dogs to go indoors and outdoors both depending on the weather. Plenty of good parking in the nice new parking lot. I think once per month they offer discounts from a local veterinarian on having your pets spayed or neutered. This is a great place to look and try to find a pet a forever home. They also have a walking path at the rear of the property that you can take the dog and walk through the woods and back. Several volunteers were there taking the animals on walks.

Guy I talked to on the phone was so rude. I called to see if they had space for a stray that I found on Sunday. Obviously couldn’t take him to the shelter then and I had to pick him up because i didn’t want to leave him out in the heat with no water and he was on a main busy road. Instead of the guy letting me explain he yelled at me or had a rude tone saying that they needed the address of where the stray was found told me twice and told me to go find the street and hung up. I was going to take the dog in myself since I can’t keep him but don’t think I want him in there with such rude staff. Would not recommend

I made arrangements with the shelter to take some puppies that I got dumped on by a shameless individual. And on the phone everything was OK. Then when it came time to drop them off. It was a hassle to an extreme extent. They were telling me they didn't have to take them and that they were going to file an investigation into the matter. Because I was dropping them off like they told me too. I mean come on. I couldn't take care of 9 dogs. Plus I was charged $135.00 which honestly was ok because I know they struggle to feed them all. But don't yell at someone you told to do the very thing your yelling at them about.

Staff are rude. Were sitting around not working. There was litter in the cats water bowls. Front cat room was hot and dirty. Soft food cans were just opened and sat on floor. No bowls. Kennel worker was only guy actually working. For this being a brand new building it should have been cleaner.

The staff there incompetent and/or lazy. A perfect example of political cronyism or nepotism. If you must speak with any of them, the guys or the surly fake redhead (mentioned only to differentiate from the fake blonde) make sure you have a good video or audio recorder. Think the license branch circa 1975.A visit there is why city/county government, especially in Shelby county, needs drastically overhauled. That said, the facility, paid for by donations, is a nice facility. If you are looking to adopt, go to the Johnson county Humane Society instead. The people there are so much mor friendly and appreciate their clients, not disdainful to the people that pay their salaries.

The staff were super friendly! The animals are kept in clean conditions in a brand new beautiful facility. We have two animals from here and both were healthy and happy when we took them home!
