With a mission to “help homeless, abandoned, stray and unwanted pets in East Central Indiana, “ Midwest Pet Refuge takes it a step beyond by incorporating the “Cat Tales” book/thrift store that helps fund the Rescue work. What a great idea! All staff are volunteers so all proceeds go to the Rescue.I went with my friend to pick up two rescue kitties and found a solid rescue service with well educated leadership and solid practices to make sure rescued animals are rehomed the right way. All animals are spayed/ neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, treated for fleas and anything else they may need. There is a back up chip that goes back to the Rescue, and all adoptions come with a “return with no judgment” policy to ensure the animal has a home in the event the adoption doesn’t work out. References are thoroughly vetted, and the foster parents are solid. It was really fun to see the different cars roaming around the bookstore and sleeping in cat towers on sunny spots throughout the store.Highly recommend if you are looking for a new furry family member - or If you would like a good used book/love a good thrift store, make your way to Portland. I’m going to send my next donations their way also!

You'll not find an animal rescue more caring and compassionate than Midwest Pet Refuge. Professionalism is top rate. They go way beyond the essentials to maintain the health of an animal. If a vet assistance is needed they have several they can call on at any time. Its just an overall great organization.

I didn't go to the refuge but called them to see if they knew a vet that would help use with spaying a stray cat. They told me about the stray program. That was a big help.
