DROVE 9 HOURS (scranton, pa)…. This place is worth it. We only met Sue, she was such a kind sweet, caring person. As soon as we entered inside we were greeted by the cute dark tabby cat that followed us to each room and waited outside for us to return back to the hallway. Every cat was happy and purring. This was a cat heaven. There are roughly 130 cats and this place does not smell like cat at all. So I do applaud to everyone who cleans and helps out. You do such a wonderful job. Jenna did adopt Willy (the cat in the carrier). If you aren’t going to adopt please send a donation. The cats love all of their toys and are so grateful. I never in my life saw so many happy cuddly cats. Wish there was better advertisement for this place. Also the outdoor cat door is the best idea ever. I can tell this place really cares for each and every animal… none of the animals are in cages besides if it has a disability (pooping) or has to quarantine. How amazing is this place… thanks again for the great experience. I hope one day we can stop back. It was such a pleasure and worth the drive. I RECOMMEND!!

I adopted my Jax and Oliver from here. They work so hard taking care of so many cats, mainly. The need is great in the area and thank goodness Cat Tails and Midwest Refuge are there to help the innocent animals.

Cutest little cat shop ever! They have books from wall to wall of every genre, crystals and beautiful rocks at amazing prices and some amazing feline companions as well if you are looking to adopt!

We adopted our kitties Blue and Willie from here and had a great experience! It was so nice to visit with them first in the bookstore and get a chance to see their personalities before making a decision. We're currently maxed out on animals here but when we are ready for more we would not hesitate to go back for another! I encourage you to check them out yourself and maybe find your own cat or dog to save! :)

Cat Tales, the not-for-profit bookstore for Midwest Pet Refuge, has thousands of used books from which to choose. They are currently moving from their downtown location to a much larger home at 601 N. Charles St. Volunteers have been working all summer to renovate the building, and it is coming together beautifully. The Board and volunteers will be moving the cats to the new building yet this week. 2/3 of the books have already been moved and are being sorted and reshelved in their new home.Please stop by to check out the new facility, to browse books, or to volunteer!

So cute and sweet! We all loved it! Books are well organized. I do wish they had air sanitizing filters running. Beware of pet store smell. Maybe they do this but cat boxes in a room with shut door and doggie door access would help limit smell.

I had high hopes for this place. I decided not to continue to volunteer based on the way things are handled here. There were several issues with basic cleanliness/health risks for the cats and kittens. Everything from lack of sterilization of microchipping instruments to not testing the cats for very serious diseases. Recently a friend of mine adopted a cat from Cat Tales unfortunately after my recommendation. Shortly after the adoption the cat began to act sick. They took them to the vet only to discover their new cat had Feline Leukemia. Not only did their new family member unfortunately pass away but unfortunately this means all of the cats here are possibly infected as it is passed easily through saliva and they all share food and water dishes. The cats are all vaccinated like they say however they are NOT tested for feline Leukemia because as I was told "it's too expensive". They will test them upon request but you have to ask them to do this. I firmly believe places like this should exist and the concept is a wonderful one. Unfortunately the way this particular one is not ran correctly for the health and safety of the cats there could obviously pose a risk to other cats in your home. PLEASE test them and know what the situation is before bringing a new addition home.

Such a cool experience! Lots of good books at a VERY good price and if you're an animal lover as well then this will be your heaven. The cats are super friendly and will not hesitate to jump up in your lap or anything. Go check them out, get a book, and maybe a lovable cat too!

Lots of books and lots of very social cats. Owners are very friendly and helpful. I like to spend an hour or so here every time I'm in town. It smells like cats or the general pet shelter smell, so be prepared for that.
