We recently adopted a kitten from BCHS and are so happy with our experience. After losing one of our cats suddenly, it was tough to imagine adopting a new one. Jen made our visit and experience comfortable and painless. We got to meet all the sweet kittens and cats they had and it’s clear why they have such a fantastic save rate. The facility is spotless, the staff is kind and organized and they put a lot of love and care into the animals they have on site.

Had a great experience here. The facility seemed decently new and well kept. Quite clean and presentable. We adopted a kitten. Was able to spend time with cat. They had a carrier, food, etc. To send home with us during the transition. They have Cats, Dogs, and more to adopt. Staff friendly.

Wonderful place! Staff and volunteers were very nice and helpful. The facility was clean. Everyone we spoke with was very informative about the dog we were interested in to ensure he was the right fit for us. The animals are well cared for here. We love our Finnick (aka Bixby) boy! Keep doing what you’re doing everyone! Thank you!

This place is great! Nice people. So many cats and dogs to choose from. I felt so bad leaving them there. They are looking for some love. I stayed till my wife dragged me out of there. Breaks my heart to see them in jail. Please take some time to visit them. Take one home. This is Ajax. We love him.

I've been a (feline) volunteer here for several years and have nothing but good things to say. I've adopted several cats through the shelter and love being able to give back. We really make an honest effort to make sure all the animals are taken care of, housing areas are clean, and our animals are healthy. I spend as much extra time as I can (while I'm doing chores) on socializing new intakes, especially if they are scared, so they can put on the charm to find a good home.I know some people get frustrated but please be patient with everyone. We aren't paid to do any of this as we all have jobs, families, and outside lives we're trying to balance while maintaining this shelter. It can sometimes be overwhelming. We're doing the best we can with what we have because we love our animals and only want the best for them. And more volunteers would be greatly appreciated!

This isn't our 1st trip to Brown County Humane Society. We adopted Ellie (Peggy) the pitbull almost 2 years ago. This trip we adopted Princess Fiona the kitten. Any time we need a new family member this is the only place we think of. They are so good to their animals and customers. Thank you for what you do!

Lost our 17 year old kitty. Found a super nice 2 month old DLH replacement at BCHS. He was immediately accepted by our remaining pair of 6 year old cats as a new playmate. Great cure for the pain of loosing a long term feline companion. Thanks Brown County Humane Society!

They got some great funds to make this place spacious and nice for the animals, I know it’s come a long way to look and operate like this. Unfortunately their stray dog program is messy, their relationship with animal control seems unprofessional, I called the BC sheriff department animal control to inform them about two dogs I found running in the road, the woman at animal control asked me a couple of questions about the dogs and explained to me that she could come pick them up or she could call the BCHS to let them know I was bringing them over so the staff could come out with leashes and take them. I thought since they were already in my car and it was 10 minutes away I’d drop them off.She did not let them know that we were coming and that was frustrating to begin with, not as frustrating as dealing with Valerie running the front desk at this establishment. Valarie was very rude to me on the phone because of the confusion between the two places, to me?! but somehow did not care and wasn’t worried about not getting that call. To get the dogs “accepted” she asked me 20+ questions about the dogs breed and color and gender when I was sitting in the parking lot with them lol. I did not know all the answers because they are strays. I explained the best I could on the phone and she called me back and decided to finally come out to the parking lot to take the them. Thank goodness, Dogs all good. She told me that she would not take them without seeing my drivers license and then proceeded to input my personal information into the computer, Very weird, I’ve taken a lot of strays/ wild animals to care centers and this was excessive. She did not listen to me throughout our conversations around the dogs, she corrected me on many things I got wrong about the dogs like breed which I’m happy to know but she was just so abrasive and entitled about it. I was fed up towards the end and just said “thank you for taking them” and walked out knowing the dogs were in good hands.I have never encountered a Karen in the wild before, it was pretty interesting.Reality check, this is brown county, someone could have easily shot them, was trying to do a favor.Any ways please fix your relationship with animal control and your attitude. With peace and love<3

Gorgeous building, wonderful kennels that all lead to their outside kennels, all kennels have raised cots and blankets; the community cat rooms are fantastic! The wall systems with shelves and boxes are amazing, too. We've adopted once here and will continue to watch for more family friends! 🐾

Great volunteers and staff who work diligently to rehome Brown County's fur babies that were left behind. Great location, beautiful building and even better place to pick up your new best friend.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Was looking to adopt a dog and they could inform me well on the ones I was interested in. I decided to tell them my lifestyle and with that they brought out the dog I fell in love with. They very much care for their animals and spend time getting to know them. They gave me paperwork of the things they tested them with, from health to socialization. My vet also appreciated their detailed information.

A small but compassionate shelter that truly cares about the animals they place. My Lola (fka Harley) was happy, affectionate, and SO ready for her new home, even though she had clearly been abused, beaten (figured that out after the adoption) and was found abandoned. They took awesome care of her for a month, and now she's a wonderful part of my little family!

As others have mentioned, the Spot program is amazing. They truly care a lot about the animals and often advertise for the less adoptable. A clean, friendly no-kill shelter will always have my support.

Hands down the best shelter in Indiana. They do not out dogs down due to volume they take time to figure our situations to help these dogs thrive while in between homes. Such great people and a great facility!

I believe in always leaving my true opinion on businesses that earn praise, or deserve warning. This is a warning. My partner had been in contact with this shelter for weeks before visiting in order to find the right cat for her lifestyle. She works remotely at home in an apartment. Somehow that turned into my friend taking home a feral cat that had no business being contained indoors at all. As a direct witness I can say there was zero warning or instruction surrounding this adoption. Unable to catch the tiny scared cat, her only resort was calling animal control to set a trap. The woman working for them was also shocked and extremely angry to hear about this inexcusable action on part of the shelter. When we came in for the visit we were told the cat she wanted had almost gone to Petsmart within the hour, and we were lucky to get to her first. The only information about the chosen cat was that she was incredibly shy. They acknowledged that a tipped ear meant the cat had been once wild but we were reassured it was when she was very young and that she is ready for a home now. The only time the office manager spoke to us concerned payment. As a witness, I can fully say that at no moment did they instruct her to take any special precautions with the cat.I’m extremely disappointed in this shelter, not only did they lie and take money from someone hoping to house a cat that NEEDED one, not a feral cat, but also zero responsibility was claimed by BC when contacted. The shelters only defense was that they ‘warned her’ to follow the steps. But why would someone allow a feral cat to be adopted into an apartment? This is wrong and BC is INhumane for refusing to even come back for the cat that obviously should have been protected. I’m just glad that poor thing didn’t have to go to Petsmart, probably an even worse environment for her.

Came there on a Friday.. unaware that they aren't open until noon... nevertheless, the very nice staff there let us in anyway. Animals seem well tended, and we weren't hovered over.. which was nice.. the only small negative was that all animals did not have a description sheet stating what breed, reason that they were there, etc. But overall, VERY HUMANE PLACE AND GREAT HELPFUL STAFF
