Being from the region, I love a good Chicago hotdog but living in central Indiana it's not something one comes across with any regularity. And when you find it on the menu, it's never what you remember. Until you find yourself in Monticello Indiana at Renee's Chicago dogs. Wow. The dogs are genuine, the poppy seeded buns are the perfect texture, the dill spear, peppers, relish,mustard. Man I felt like Kurt Russell in backdraft. Great dog!They gave me an Italian beef sample. Solid 9/10. Comes w peppers and au jux but just ask and they will do what you want. I also had an old timey root beer and creme soda. Perfect compliment to the dogs.The diner has the 50s diner seats, booths, signage and they were even playing 50s songs.Super friendly counter staff, perfectly clean, lots of food options... Oh and they have a dozen ice cream flavors with the real cones. It smells so good in here!Right on 421.It's 20 min away but I'll be back ALOT.Loved it.

This place is a joke. I lived in Chicago Suburbs for years. This place can not get good help because the female owner is very rude.The couple last year were very good. They didn't get fired. They quit with notice. After that, they closed down. They always close down for months. They are closed again. They do not want to run this business. They want someone else to run the business. VERY SAD !!

Originally from up North. Was great til guy running kitchen was fired last summer. He was a cook from Chicago and put out an outstanding product.. quality and quantity continued to suffer since he left. Not expecting much from 2024 season but I will try a beef & dog to give them another shot.. I'm not holding my breath tho..Just really want a good local beef n dog..west Lafayette AJ's is much better but this place was good enough fora fix. looks like the drive there is back.

The ice cream flavors are really unique and you can get milkshakes in whatever flavors of ice cream they have. The girls working were very friendly and helpful and patient. The inside of the restaurant was really nice and it was kinda retro/vintage like an old diner. It was a nice place. I didn't order food only milkshakes for myself and a couple of my coworkers. The milkshakes were really good. The ice cream they use is hand dipped and they mix it themselves. The little soft pretzels looked delightful and they're menu looks/sounds appetizing in general in my opinion.

Just had lunch there with my wife. My first visit (wife has been there before), and it was 5-star all around! Great food, service, and prices. I had the Chicago Dog, and it was delicious. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly, and the tasteful retro decorations add a very nice touch. I'm not in Monticello on a regular basis, but when I am and I'm hungry, Renee's Chicago Dogs will definitely be an option high on my list! Thank you!

If you don't know anything about Chicago authentic food, you may complain. I have read enough people on here complaining & it is ridiculous. I have seen 3-4 businesses try to open up Chicago food drive thru's & restaurants in Lafayette & they end up closing their doors. FINALLY, we have the best place open. Tastes just like I am at a very authentic Chicago restaurant. Those cheesy beefs are so excellent & perfect. The juice is great, along with peppers. The fries are awesome. Today was my 3rd time there. I just can't stop craving your menu. Can you please do one thing? Fountain coke products are a must. And maybe down the line, a couple Chicago authentic pizzas?I lived in Schaumburg IL for 11 years. I now live along on water close to Oakdale Inn.Your manager is an absolute great guy. Keep him around.

This is exactly the kind of place I had been waiting to see open up in the area! It has a really cool '60s diner theme, an ice cream bar, and a delicious all-star menu! The service is unmatched, as management and staff are some of the nicest people I've ever met in the industry. It's the perfect place to spend a lunch break or even go for a cute date!Kid-friendliness: Lots of picky eater choices and treats for any age.

This was the best place to stop for lunch while waiting on a cake from next door. These businesses are clean and look brand new with detailed decoration. The Chicago Dogs here are authentic and delicious! It was served with two sides; potato chips and choice of macaroni salad or potato salad. We each got the opposite to try each other's homemade side. They were both of the best quality! The potato salad is made with real potatoes. The macaroni salad isn't missing the peas (actually cooked right for once) and has the perfect amount of creamy to it. 😋 Excellent customer service! Highly recommend food and service!!

Wow thank goodness that I went to Renee's place. It's just like they advertise. The dog's and Italian beef is and has the authentic Chi-Town or Chicago tastes right down to the delicious bread. We ordered a boat load of food and we have to say it was very reasonably priced. I ordered 2 itaian beef sandwiches and a Chicago dog and chicken strips and several other items for under 40 smakaroo's ( Cheap). It fed 4 people . The wait staff is extremely friendly helpful. The WBC rootbeer is even delicious and tastes like it used to back in the 70s. It's the apitamy of the little gem in Monticello Indiana and I am glad I found it. I highly recommend this place for food that will take you and your taste bud's to great food that Chicago has. Rock on 🤘. See use guy's again soon.

I ordered their special of Polish sausage with sauerkraut and brown mustard. The sausage had a nice pop to the casing and was very juicy. Kraut had a great sweetness to counter the mustard. Also ordered the Chicago dog. The dog itself was great. All the toppings were piled on as a Chicago dog should be. Would definitely come again.

Delicious Chicago Hotdog, macaroni salad and ice cream for dessert! Staff is friendly and efficient. Dining area spotless. Definitely a great stop for a taste of Chicago!Side note: went back another day to purchase pints of their delicious ice cream. Key Lime Pie is our family favorite!

The Chicago style hot dogs were very good! Our daughter loved the kids meal. The ice cream was great and it was all decently priced. We'll definitely go back!

Food was below average, cold, and overpriced. Just because you use 100% Vienna Beef isn’t an excuse for poor service. A Chicago style wannabe is all. Unless you talked about the attitudes of the staff. Then yes, authentic Chicago rudeness. I doubt they’ll be here this time next year

Tried this place today for the first time, & I most likely won't be going back. The service was quick & everything was correct with my order. Those are the positives. Unfortunately the quality of the food doesn't meet the price point. There wasn't anything wrong with the food, it's just overpriced for what you get. This is the main reason I won't be returning. The secondary reason is because when I went to pay, the cashier told me the total, I paid with a debit card & the price increased. I realize merchants pay a fee on debit & credit card transactions, but those costs can easily be figured & the offsets included in the pricing. There are few things more aggravating than being told a specific price, only to be charged more a few seconds later.

I had a Chicago dog and of course a green river for lunch today! Amazing service, food was out soooo fast and tasted DELICIOUS. I believe that you pay for what you get and in this case it’s a STEAL. I will definitely be back!

I stopped in for a chili dog while passing through the area. The restaurant was clean, the staff were very polite & the hot dog was the best I've had in a long time. I'll definitely hit the spot up again if I'm ever in the area.

Stopped in with a my family visiting from Georgia, my sister's bun for her hot dog was hard and cold. I am from Chicago, and that is not the way we serve hot dogs. After my sister talked to the girl working her and the girl sat there and had the the nerve to talk about my sister.I ordered the beef and cheese, was ok but I never heard of ordering AU JU on the side and charging you to get a wet sandwich. And if you want green peppers on the sandwich that should be an option not automatic.I understand not wanting to dip it in the juice, but that is what a lattel is for, way over priced, and don't have French fries. Nothing like Chicago.

Was excited to find this place at first. Over cooked or cheap dogs. When you bit into them you could hear and fill them pop. Wife's it oozed out of the skin. Chili dog It must of been the last chili in pan had juice with little pieces of meat.One plain hot dog with ketchup, one chili dog, ocean of coke bottle of pop $27.00 still have the receipt.Very disappointed. Was hoping for good chili dog and not a hot dog with mushie meat that is called a Spanish dog.
