the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful! my boyfriend and i went in to make copies of the house keys and we left with free samples and everyone was so kind! 10/10 recommend

The Customer Service experience here is phenomenal. Although this place is tucked away, it's worth the find. From the time you walk in, they are there to help. I always understand my buys and how to operate them.

Dropped off blades to be sharpened at the advertised price on their Website - only to be told "those are old prices, pay up" . That's a terrible way to do business.....

Would have left a better review because the store was the best Ace we've ever been too. But when you want to ask the lady in the paint department a question, just don't. She obviously doesn't want to answer questions or deal with people. Next time someone asks something maybe be a bit nicer instead of snarky.

I had 18 screens to be remade. I called and they said bring them in. I brought them in 9 days ago and paid for them. Was told it would be a week and a half. Got a call yesterday. Two of the screens are specialized and can’t be done there. I understand that. For the remaining, I was told that they do not have time and they would not be doing them. This after a week. No comment that they would take longer, just no we will not be doing them as we are too busy. They are dropping them back off at my house, but I am out of town and now have to start from scratch. If you couldn’t do them, why did you take them, have me pay over 1,000 for them ( a fair price ) and then call a week later and say too bad. I asked this question and received no answer. A week ago I was excited to have a great local hardware store. Today I realize I don’t have one.I read the responseTo my review. Ashlyn asked me to call. I have called her 15 times, never picked up. Left a message 4 times. Never received a return call.

I honestly never dreamed I'd write a review for a hardware store : ) Not all Ace stores are the same (my fave is in Steamboat Springs, CO and least fave is in Valpo). I went in this store for paint so many times, I feel like I know the 3 ladies I have met that work that department. Also, I did a paint match of a Benjamine Moore color at Home Depot and it was not even close...less Cottage Red, and more 80's mauve, eek. They were able to get me the color I needed to match my dresser without having to paint the whole thing. Honestly, every employee has been great for all my projects AND there is an official UPS Store inside.Plus, always fresh popcorn : )

Wow , my package was lost and never delivered! But the ups employee " with the nose ring" said sorry. That is fine but reimbursement was a nightmare and received 25 cents on the dollar. Used fed ex two weeks later no problems. I was told I would receive a check for 120 dollars to compensate for my 300 dollar lose from UPS . But ace receive it last week and cashed it and still has given me my money! This place sucks!

Honestly are you all ok no really the staff seemed to be in a rush. But there were like five customers there. That paired with the staff member being really pushy and rude. Yikes I doubt this store will be open much longer holding on by a thread.

Glad to have them there! The woman on duty assisted me immediately. Sorry to say not one man made sure I didnt need anything as I navigated several other departmemts. Forgive me for saying but Chesterton Ace should train this staff.

I went into Ace requesting a customized leash to attach to my stake in the ground for taking my dog outside. The pre-made sizes are always too short to where she isn't able to go far or too long to where she goes into the neighbor's yard, or overall they're too bulky for my smaller beagle. Linda helped me out and she made a custom one out of the materials I requested accounting for my dog's weight and size. It's the perfect size for my dog! My dog is able to walk around the yard, it's not too heavy for her, and the length is just right! Linda is an outstanding employee and deserves some recognition. Linda provided me with the best customer service possible and I couldn't be happier!

Competitive yet slightly higher prices... but it's worth it. Staff is knowledgeable on the products and answer every question thrown their way. Great teamwork. The bag of potting soil I bought today was stacked way too high! The cashier and I were breathless after getting it down. Please break down the pallets to where we don't have to stand on them and reach over our heads.

The lady at the paint counter really did not want to assist me. She said that she spilled a can of paint earlier this morning and that she wasn't in a good mood. The problem was that I took in a cabinet door to get the color matched and she had no interest in assisting me with matching the color.I have been a loyal customer of that store for the last 9 years and refuse to go to the big box stores but I think that is going to change! Very unprofessional.

The store has evolved into so many different working parts it's a hardware store it's a repair store it's a rental store it has a booth where you can send packages print out posters you can also have certain items personalized they have Christmas gifts they have holiday gifts and they have free popcorn they have it all and they're very polite which is unusual these days blessings

Always knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Competitive pricing.Recently (in December) need a garden hose. Great selection and helpful sales force. Also, help in replacing an odd chainsaw blade.Always check before the nearby big boxes. You’ll be met at the door with a smile!Outstanding neighborhood resource.

Im from out of state and we were visitng the area. In the midst of our travels, my daughters wheelchair broke. I needed one part which I was told I would find here. I walked in with her chair and Marvin and Steve helped me. They directed me to part I needed, assisted with putting it in, and offered to make sure her chair was working before I was on my way.Atmosphere was pleasant, employees were beyond helpful, and pricing was competitive. A great experience overall.

Great hardware store! Plenty of Helpful staff. They always seem to have what I need for the boat. Stainless nuts and bolts etc. Also lots of grills and accessories Top brands. Rentals of equipment too.

The customer service was (good) didn't try to push for the sale but made the explanation of the product/item understandable, so you'd want to buy it. Plus Aces reputation is pretty good.......

The score is a compromise.On the positive side, the store is locally owned and run, very functional, unpretentious with a very convenient delivery service which is much appreciated during the pandemic. On the other hand, the story employs at least one employee who is determined to chastise and humilate a customer she does not like. We had items delivered to our house when I noticed the store had called earlier. When I called the store, a woman employee criticized me for ordering from the Michigan City store when I have a LaPorte address. I pointed that we lived 4.2 miles from her store but 6.1 miles from the LaPorte store. (I remember this from the Google site that listed the closest Ace stores.) Apparently determined to humiliate me and perhaps release some unmanaged inner frustration, she next criticised me for getting free delivery when the puchase was less then $50. I pointed out that I did nothing the website did not allow me to do, the site gave the purchase free delivery. Rather than apologize, she tersely said “Good day!” and hung up on me. There is no excuse for this meaness.

5 stars for helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, minus three stars for the inconvenience and lack of knowledge in certain aspects of the business. Always stopped here as it's a quick in and out compared to the bigger stores in town. The individuals who cut keys or whomever made the policy of not cutting "do not duplicate" keys needs some education. It is absolutely false that these keys can not be legally duplicated; only restricted keys (there's a difference) by the manufacturer cannot be duplicated as they're patent protected. It's unfortunate that I had to go elsewhere to have a copy made at a different hardware store in town for a basic Kwikset style key which happened to have "do not duplicate" on it. As the property owner, I was told by the staff that I could write a letter on my own letterhead stating I'm the property owner and am allowing myself to make a copy. Ridiculously inconvenient and frankly, an idiotic policy. I will continue to take my business elsewhere.

Was looking for 2 wind chimes in memory of one departed... found the perfect one, but needed 2. Debbie was most helpful and called the LaPorte store to check their inventory and they had one. She told us and then called them back and asked them to hold it for us... this really meant alot to us!

On a bitter cold day, one of the gentlemen working on the help desk found a drill and some zip ties, and came out to the parking lot to fix my motorhome and got me back on the road. My hero! Exceptional customer service!
