six months ago I went here to find a new addition to my family and I got lucky enough that this little (not so little anymore) booger was being dropped off at the same time. everyone here was super kind and helpful! he was covered in fleas when some high schoolers dropped him off and they gave us flea medication to take with us so we could bathe him and get him medicated. now he’s the biggest ball of love!

I volunteer here and I love doing it. I love cats and dogs and it can be sad but it can also be incredibly happy. It's a great place to adopt an animal from or just come in and volunteer or donate because they need help and stuff a whole lot :)

Don’t come here with a “stray” dog because they won’t take it. We found a dog with a collar still on clearly starving and shivering but they just told us to take it back to where we found it and hope for the best. So disrespectful.

Adopted a aggressive cat from Petsense and was told that we could bring her back and get another cat with better temperament since she was aggressive and not adjusting at all. When we brought her back they let my daughter hold and take a kitten into the adoption room and when we came out the owner said she could not have the cat after she had played with the kitten and told us we could just adopt another with better temperament. Not very professional. Caught lady that told us we could in several lies. Very disappointed.

I called about my missing pet and left a message. A lady called me back ASAP, she even called out of their regular operating hours to check and make sure I found my pet! I found my cat, but wanted to say THANKS for being so nice !

Wonderful staff and cutest dogs and cats we got a puppy from them but he had parvo and died we tried to save him but they shouldn't let a dog or cat go if it is sick but I do love them need donations ASAP there and we got a new pit named diesel

I've never been inside the shelter. I have had to report a injured stray cat. I found the phone isn't best way to contact. The shelter is on Facebook.A beloved fur- baby. had a family looking for this kitty. The Shelter saved beloved pet. My share is well over due. Seriously late its been three years.Thank you Madison Animal Shelter!

I adopted My Precious fur-baby there over 2 years ago, Sorry this is so much later. I realize in 2020 COVID hit and everything was messed up. They lost their Vet that did spay and neuter so I ended up having to pay over $200 to get her fixed. My biggest issue is that they won’t take in strays, it’s sad, I don’t have the money to get this stray and drop it off, where they at to treat dropped off or put out animals. They can’t speak for themselves, Someone needs to stand up and speak for them. I’m doing that, that’s why I adopted to begin with, to Save a cat! When’s Either Jefferson county or Indiana for that matter, gonna care?

I have adopted from Madison's animal shelter twice- I've had no problems at all. The staff has always been helpful & kind.The only reason I have given them a 4 star is that they are still a kill facility. I really wish this would change! I know they need more volunteers & donations, but I also know they do the best they can with what they have! If you thought the place looked dirty.- volunteer a couple of hours each week & help clean! Send them a check or buy them a bag of cat or dog food. I'm sure they would appreciate ANY donation or help! Don't sit back & judge, help be the solution!

I thought the animal shelter was pretty clean considering. They were busy last time I was there so I had to wait a little bit to see the dogs but we didn't mind. My girls played with the cats while we waited. Only thing negative I would say is maybe they need to hire a extra person.

Very nice ladies that work there. Their cats are beautiful. They really try to take care of their animals. Adopted a kitten from them and she is so sweet and used to human touch.

Not happy at all with this place right now. My dog is 15 and senile. He has a shock collar on, but still wanders on occasion. They picked him up 6 months ago, so they know this. They just charged me $50, because someone else picked him up by my house and brought him in. It's hard enough to care for a senior dog, giving them medicine and special foods, without this kind of headache. I would think a shelter would be kinder than this, since they advertise they care for animals 😡

There is a beautiful brown and white pit bull mix 1-3 years old at Madison, IN Jefferson County Animal Shelter. She has the most gorgeous light blue eyes I've ever seen! This place really seems to care about the animals there and I love that. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because I think their hours of operation should be widened. They're only open about 4-7 hours per day and that's normally during regular work hours for most people so how are they supposed to come adopt a new family member if they don't open until most people are already at work and are closed long before most people get off. Plus, the animals need more human interaction than just a few hours per day. Other than that, great place!

Nice staff, adopted 2 wonderful kittens , that were spayed and had their shots, for only $45, and I donated some wet cat food, after I asked what they needed.

Great shelter. They are doing the best they can! It's funny that people think they're not a really friendly when you're trying to dump your pet. Of course they aren't thrilled that you are adding to the problem.

Went looking for particular breeds of dog. Didn't have anything I was looking for.Very noisey. Staff friendly & helpful. Kennels were clean.

I have tried contacting twice by email about bringing stray cats in but I never received a reply. There's way to many stray cats in our neighborhood. The sickly cat that fought with the other cats has disappeared finally. WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT ALL THE ABANDONED CATS THAT JUST APPEAR OUT OF NOWHERE. I can't just dump them off like some people do.

Great place to adopt a cat or dog. But they are over filled all the time. They are not friendly when you inquire about dropping off animals. It's a needed service, but it's obviously under funded.

The lady I spoke to was very nice. They were able to take in a litter of 4 kittens for $25.

I would not say I loved it. It is an animal shelter with homeless animals. I admire the people that volunteer. The people there were very helpful and nice.

Turning into a great place. Lots of changes in a positive way. Public should go and check out the updates.
