My dog Zeus was treated horribly by Ruth the veterinary assistant. I took him in last year when he was about 9 months old to get him microchipped. He had been going there since he was a month old. He was scared and anxious as most dogs are at the vet. He was not greeted or petted by Dr.Mock or Ruth. Jennifer at the front desk on the other hand was amazing to him. She offered him treats and petted him so he really liked her. That's really all it takes to win him over but no effort was made to ease his fears once in the room. Ruth didn't help hold or position him and gave me an attitude as if i wasn't doing it right instead of guiding me and working together. Once done I needed him weighed for medicine and Ruth gave me an attitude because I could not get him onto the scale by myself. Instead of helping me by lifting one end she decided to use the choke leash they had there on him. I had a gentle leader on him so you cannot pull him but he also cannot pull me. He is a Great Dane so he was very large. She used the leash to pull him onto the scale by choking him. He was so scared he expressed his anal glands. After that day if he saw a leash he would run. It took time and patience for me to get him to be not scared of the leash again. Since then he had his neuter and gastropexy done at Purdue and they handled him wonderfully. They even gave me anxiety medicine because they recognized how scared he was. They had no issues with him and said he's just a big baby. Westchester vet in Porter also handled him well and did not expect me to weigh him or position him. He's even been to Hobart and again they did great with him. I think Ruth was intimidated by his size and did not want to deal with him because of it. He was 100 lb at the time. She told me i needed to be forceful with him and how he could easily drag me down the street. I told her that is why I use the gentle leader on him because he cannot pull me. I have never had him overtake me and he's well over 1 now. She was rude and judgemental instead of helpful and compassionate. I have not taken him back there since that day and I will not come back there with any of my pets. Zeus deserved better. He was a scared puppy and needed assurance that everything was going to be okay. Instead he was choked, and left there more scared than when he came in. Ruth's behavior was unacceptable. I do not think she is in the right profession.

I recently took my newly adopted kitten for his medical checkup. Holly, the assistant, was very attentive to my concerns about Oskar. She was able to answer all questions before we saw Dr Hawrysio. After visiting with the doctor I needed clarification regarding his treatment and they both set my mind at ease. Thank you Holly and Dr. Hawrysio.

Wonderful place to go. Doctors, technicians, and staff are extremely helpful and very friendly. The groomer is also wonderful. The best thing is that you go with appointments, so you usually don't wait a long time to get service. Overall a great place for your pet.

We had to lay our sweet furbaby down and they were wonderful. Very compassionate, gave us all the time we needed and had a separate exit, directly out of the room so you don't have to walk through the waiting area. They made a very difficult time, much easier to cope with.

I have been taking my fur babies here for the past 10 years. Dr Heckler was great until he retired. All the doctors are amazing. The staff is very sweet and supportive. I had to put one of my dogs down and all the staff felt my pain and was very sympathetic. I recommend them … I feel you won’t be disappointed.

They suck!!! They are rude, they don’t know how to do business well at all. I mean if you call they will not return your phone calls all they do is write down your name & that’s it. I don’t know what happened but at one point they were good at their jobs. Now they don’t care bad bad bad all the way, if I could leave no stars I would give them zeros all across the bored. Not worth the cost of going at all when you have more then one bad experiences.

Dr Cooper, and Dr Heckler have always been the Dr's for my pets, I don't think we would ever take our pets to any other clinic the people there are so friendly and great with our pets, why would we!

Just went there to ask about getting a rabies shot for my chihuahua. She has severe seizures, that they are aware of, whenever I bring her thru the doors at any vet clinic. Probably other dog smells. I asked if I could get her rabies shot out in the parking lot and they would not. I'm no vet, but it seems like a small ask to accommodate a special needs animal. Their unflinching protocols should be taken into consideration when choosing this clinic.*Although it "could" pose a safety risk, no evaluation was made to see if it would. There were no discussions as to alternatives and the answer I received was a flat no, end of discussion. It is just my opinion, but I believe I was expected to aquiesce and bring her inside for treatment regardless of the harm to her or, for me to leave and lose my business. I will not subject my loved pet through the trauma of those seizures willingly again. And thanks for the heads-up on looking for alternative options.

I found an injured dog at my work. We took her to this location! Let me tell you. This vet is by far the best I've ever been to in northwest Indiana. They are very kind and professional, and they listen to all my concerns and questions. They have been keeping us up to date on her progress

I selected this vet based on the reviews. My experience was not positive at all. Our appointment was at opening and the staff seemed moody. We were not pleasantly greeted, we were gruffly asked Name? No smiles. We should have left right then. They seemed to care more about explaining all of the costs than treating my animal. There was no exam performed in front of me , they said they did it in back ( alarm bell)My animal was there because of a bad front tooth. They insisted on shots ( never explained the side effects and my animal was ill for 2 days afterwards), never opened his mouth in front of me to explain the problem but were quick to tell me how much it would cost to pull the tooth but only as an estimate because they didn't know what else they would find. They were quick to ask for a deposit for the procedure.I'm sure I could have asked them to redo the exam in front of me but I was over it. Vet barely said anything ( very short man. I understand there are 2 vets) the assistant did most of the talking and it was all cost and no care.Yesterday I took my animal to another vet recommended ( Merrillville Animal Hospital on Cleveland) by a friend, that vet opened my animals mouth and it was pretty bad. More than 1 tooth needs to come out. She was great. Explained everything, exam was done in front of me and she seemed like she cared.I'm not saying that Lake Station is a bad place, I'm saying my experience was bad. They also seem to cater more to dogs so if you have a cat you might want to consider another vet.I want a vet who acts intrested in my animal not my wallet, who has desk help that is friendly, who explains what's going on and performs the exam in front of me. Lake Station gave me none of these things. This is my kitty.. this vet.... no help.

MauMau has been my best friend since he choose me to adopt him 9 years ago. We recently moved from IL and while I was driving him weekly back to IL for care, it became clear we needed someplace closer to home.We were able to secure an appointment at Lake Station and they took a $25 deposit over the phone to secure his spot. Upon arrival, we called and waited for a room to open - they then brought us both inside (which was wonderful because my IL vet was curbside only - it can be hard sometimes to express your concerns over the phone and not see a Vet face to face.)The level of knowledge and care the vet and vet tech presented to me and MauMau was extraordinary. We were there two hours and they went over extensively his issues, his options, they listened to my concerns and were compassionate and caring.They brought out pricing options before we proceeded with anything as well so they were very up front with the cost.I'm truly thankful for this clinic - they showed professionalism and compassion in my time of need and answered my millions of questions with patience and expertise.I will continue to use Lake Station for all of my pets needs in the future.(The computer was down when they took my payment so I didn't receive a receipt at that time. They then emailed me one later in the day and it still showed my $25 credit that we forgot to apply to the total bill.)

We absolutely love Lake Station Pet Clinic. The staff is always kind and helpful no matter how much is going on! We bring all 4 of our pets here and could not ask for more! They were able to get us antibiotics when I called to inform them our new puppy Obi-Wan had kennel cough, and also recommended our other pups Anakin and Ahsoka also get on antibiotics to be on the safe side!! The staff communicates with you and gives updates on prescriptions, surgery updates, follow up visits, etc. We brought our kitten Padme in to get spayed and the procedure went well, had she not had an e-collar you would’ve never know she had surgery! My family members also bring their pets here so that says a lot about the staff, service, and environment of this clinic! Thank you guys for all you do for our fur babies!!!

Pet lovers beware…if you take your pet there and prepay for the fecal test ($51.00) you only have 30 days to get that back to them, or they keep the money and charge you again for the same test! They gal on the phone informed me they tell all customers verbally this. Well they certainly didn’t tell us, nor did I read it on my receipt at time of service. We have been going here for 20 plus years. Sadly we will look elsewhere moving forward. It’s a dam shame, we loved Clemons, Z, Hecklar and Cooper to name a few. Not been the same really sense most of them have retired and or moved on. How can you prepay for services not performed, and charge again?? To me it’s like loading a gift card, giving you 30 days and then saying nope moneys gone! That’s there is wrong

I am so glad that I decided to go to Lake Station Pwt Clinic. They were very welcoming and caring. The Veterinarian and Vet Tech that saw my cat were very gentle and very thorough and took the time to examine her over and over even though she was not cooperating. They took the time to explain everything and were very caring and concerned about my cats health. Thank you so much!

Excellent service and truely passionate employees. Everyone I have encountered are devoted and awesome. They know your pet's name and treat your pet with love. I highly recommend the Lake Station Pet Clinic. I've been to numerous other vets and Lake Station is by far the most personable and truely caring. I brought in Spooky my 13 year old and they were extremely explanatory on every question I had ensuring that I was comfortable and understood. Spooky has her dental surgery on the 14th. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my baby.

Update: We've had our (almost) 14 yo pup here many times... the staff is great, Dr. Mock (in particular) is outstanding... they keep our old girl relaxed and safe during her visits... we appreciate that!First time visit to this clinic with our 11+ yr old pup and Lake Station Pet Clinic was AWESOME!!! Our girl was rather nervous, but the Vet (Dr. Barenie) and the 2 vet techs were very comforting to her... we totally appreciated the TLC given to our pup :) Also, pricing was very fair...
