My boyfriend and I went in last Wednesday just to look at the cats they had and instantly fell in love with this sweet girl named Starra, we weren’t planning on coming home with a sweet baby that night but she’s the best thing to happen to us. She’s adjusted so well just within these past few days, we couldn’t be more grateful to have her in our lives. The biscuit factory is always open with this sweet girl❤️ thank you for our blessing in disguise

Really clean, and friendly. The animals seem to be taken care of great and showed lots of affection. I love that some of the older animals are called rock stars and some of there adoption fees are cleared.

I've adopted both of my cats from the humane society and they are wonderful. The cats came with a free visit to the vet for the first check up and the fee was small for adoption less than 50 for one cat. Also the cats are well taken care of and loved that this place. They didn't have any fleas when I got them :)

Very nice place and separate areas for cats and dogs. Animals are clean and so are the rooms. We just visited the cat rescue room where the well cats are separated from those that are FLV positive. We ended up adopting a large adult cat to replace a male that we had to put down.We haven't been in many rescue shelters, but Almost Home is well staffed and friendly. All cats have been either neutered or spayed and chipped.I highly recommend them if you are wanting a cat or dog.

Took a stray cat here and they told us to abandon it and “take it back where we found it” because they’re at capacity and won’t make money on it.

This is a non-traditional (and, sorry - really long!) review. We were the "re-home" for a dog we found through Craigslist who we (quickly) discovered had massive separation anxiety. Our house was progressively getting destroyed every time we had to leave (read: scratched up doors, ripped up carpet, chewed THROUGH a door), and we were at our wits' end. We'd ordered a crate, but it hadn't arrived, and we knew we were going to need to be away a couple times during the coming days before the crate arrived. We were so desperate that we seriously contemplated surrendering her to a shelter because we just didn't know what to do and were dreading whatever the next ante-up was going to be in terms of destruction of our home.(Side note: I'm pretty sure I cried for about two days straight as I contemplated this. I volunteered at a shelter for several years, and I saw first-hand that dogs with separation anxiety were really hard cases for shelters. The dogs are otherwise really adoptable, but they get returned over and over again by angry people whose homes have been destroyed by them. The amount of time and energy spent by shelter employees and volunteers trying to desensitize and retrain these dogs is fairly enormous. Knowing all this, you can imagine how horrible I felt even considering having to burden a shelter with her.)In a last ditch effort, I called Almost Home to see if they possibly rented out crates. They don't, but they did something better - they loaned us a crate. And even blankets to put inside. I really appreciated their efforts to try to help us KEEP a dog that was otherwise headed back to a shelter because a family just couldn't make sufficient accommodations for her.[The end of the story is that said dog broke out of the crate and further destroyed the house while we were away for just over an hour, but thankfully, the ordered crate arrived several days early, we massively reinforced it, and I didn't leave the house for 2 weeks while we crate trained her. She still doesn't like us leaving, but she does go in the crate willingly, and thanks to the crate and anti-anxiety meds, we still have her!!! (And the destruction of our house has stopped...still need to repaint, fix carpet and screen doors, and replace an interior door, though...)]Anyway, I really appreciated the efforts of the people at the shelter, their kindness, and their long-sighted vision for the care of animals, not just those currently at the shelter. If we found ourselves needing to adopt again someday, I'm confident our search would start at Almost Home.

i adopted a cat and a few weeks later we found out she was half blind, but the workers never told us which they should have but didnt. I am very disappointed in this customer service because we found out she was blind and they should have told us. If you are going to get an animal here, i recommend changing your mind.Very Disappointed....

My daughter adopted a cat from them 8 months ago. They said he was a very friendly loving cat so she decided to get him. Unfortunately when she got him home he was aggressive not friendly and not loving for the most part. He would let her touch him if he wanted her to. Unfortunately his aggression got too bad and we had to return him to them. She wasn't wanting to return him but she couldn't take the chance of him attacking her in her apartment again. We had to have animal control come and help us get him into a carrier to be able to take them back that is how aggressive he was. When we got there to drop him off they made her fill out paperwork which I understand they have to do, but she wanted to be able to tell him goodbye she was in tears and very upset that she had to even take him back. They did let her tell him goodbye but after they had taken him into the back the girl told another person in the building which cat it was and they acted like my daughter was the most horrible person for returning him. As I said she was in tears over having to take the cat back she actually really loves the cat but she can't afford to have the cat attacking her every time she comes home. The staff member that I talked to was very in my opinion unsympathetic to the plight of my daughter and her having to return the cat. The staff should remember that when people are returning animals is not always because they just don't want them it was because of safety reasons. I tried to explain to the staff person they just basically in my opinion blew me off and we were not very happy with how it ended up being. Hope you all have a better reaction or response with them than we did.

These folks have protect our pets when they get into bad situations. They took good care of my dear cat Charlie when he had a long adventure and I was able to enjoy his good company again after I spotted him in their mobile unit.

I went to the shelter over month ago it was 4 minutes left until they closed well she sees me and locks the door. My dogs had no food I'm homeless so I go in today and was turned away because I got little nasty because she locked the door before they we closed. The 3 girls looked down their noses at me. So I'm going hungry tonight so my dogs can eat. Very heartless girls. 😞😭😤. You should think twice about being mean to someone you never know what they're going through.

It was very shockingly bad experience today. They denied cat to me and my daughter only because : "I did not provide right info about my vet."When I asked my vet for explanation, I find out, that Almost Home Human Society even did not called them!Very inhumane behavior with humans. Also, they very suspiciously and for long time explored our EU passport :)) Maybe they are afraid that we will take cat to EU? What if cat would be happy about that?Horrible experience , they went even further, but I am not ready to share yet..Daughter and me had a lot of tears. Tears of discrimination, and violation of our rights. Very deceiving and human abusive place.

Such an amazing pet adoption shelter! They actually care for each and every pet even after they walk out of their doors headed toward a new home! They will also help every month with food- for FREE! They are so very compassionate and helpful in every way. I would recommend this shelter over any other. Hands down my favorite!

My application was reviewed and approved, then they suddenly decided to have staff meeting in the middle of the day (2PM). I was literally standing there for 20 minutes. When they were done with staff meeting and preparing paperwork for me, I had to head out because I had things to do. When I came back 2 hours later to finish adoption process, the cat I planned to adopt and they approved me for was already adopted by someone else. Do you not see the issue here? Why have a staff meeting in the middle of the day? Why did you approve my application and give it to someone else? If your mid-day staff meeting didn't take 20 min I would have enough time to finish adoption process and gone home with the cat I wanted. I was really disappointed.

Terrible experience.Back story.I went in to adopt a kitten and found one that seemed healthy. We bring him home and the next day this mark appears on his ear. We think he somehow fell and hurt himself, so we let it "heal". A couple days later it starts scabbing and getting bigger. We come to find out we adopted a cat with a fungal infection, THE SHELTER'S FAULT. The infection can spread to humans as well as other animals, so we decide to look for a vet but they are all booked for months. Since we didn't want to keep a contagious pet we brought him back to the shelter to return him so they can treat him ASAP.Issue:This worker with blue eyes and curly hair was VERY rude and mean towards us for returning the cat for a very VALID reason. He didn't even mention the refund until it was asked of, he said to fill out a form so the board can decide if I get my money back. Which is insane because they sold me a sick cat and I have to wait possibly a month to see if I earned my money back?? What??? So, I said ok then I'll take my cat back, I'm not losing $150. All of a sudden they printed a receipt issuing a refund to my account. They make all of these rules thinking everyone will mistreat the cats when in reality they can't take care of them well enough to sell healthy cats. It's all backwards, they can sell me a sick contagious cat but I when I try to return it they act all angry toward me like I'm the bad guy. Fire that kid who treats customers like this.
