Labeling has done a lot of improvements to t this store in the last year or two. I can almost always find what I need here. Their staff is always available to help. It's a nice contrast to other big box home improvement stores in michigan city.I'm also a big fan of their rental department. The tools/equipment for rent are decent quality and such a cheap alternative to buying one or paying a professional to use them.My gf likes the custom engraving center that they make personalized items on site.I think that prices here are higher than big box stores but it's a convenience thing. Im sure they aren't ordering on the scale that menards or lowes is and it saves me about 45 minutes by getting parts here locally. Some things are worth driving to michigan city for, most are not.

I frequent this Ace, and every time I go, I’m greeted and asked if they can help me find something. I went in literally right before close last night needing a last minute craft item for my wife, and 2 different people helped me immediately without me asking, and had smiles on their face. Cashier was friendly too. Bonus stars if I could give them for giving me a $2 bill :) also nice location to have the UPS store in the building.

I came to this Ace for the first time solely because they are a Stihl dealer. It was my first time purchasing a top tier saw. The fellas helping me were super friendly and helpful, without pushing me towards one purchase or another. I ended up getting a fantastic saw and they really made it right for me. I'll be getting all my Stihl products from here for sure.

We recently rented a bobcat on Thursday my boyfriend took 2 days of vacation to try to get some yard work done. My boyfriend took two days of vacation to get our large yard project done. The young man that I spoke to on Thursday when the machine broke said that he would refund or send us a new machine that day. Nope never heard anything that day had to call back the next day at 11 in the morning and speak to a manager who then sent the machine that wasn't it any better. Was told by the young employee that we would be refunded and they actually charged more than what we were quoted over the phone I will never use a ace again I'll go to the big chains in Michigan City.

0/10Terrible customer services at Kabelin's Ace located on the west side of town. I use to go here all the time to support the local business and not go to a big box store even though prices are a lot more expensive here.Customer service has went downhill bad the past few years. You use to get greeted and helped. Use to joke around with people about how you could never get around the store without being bugged for help.Now employees just stand around talking to each other and don't want to be bothered. Won't help you unless you are a retired male.I've had multiple run-ins with a retired older man that ignores you when you ask him something and if you do happen to get his attention he just points won't say anything or ask if you have any questions and just straight up walk away, but 5 minutes later you'll see in another aisle helping a older retired man being super helpful. I wish I would've got his name to put it on here, but he walks away so quick I couldn't catch it.It's a shame what this business has come to. I use to enjoy coming to this store and had family that worked here. I won't be taking my business there anymore.I'd recommend going if you are a retired older man, but if you are a woman, or below the age of 40 you might want to go somewhere else.Haven't had issues on the east side of town, more so hard to find a employee since its a smaller store.

Preface: LEAVE YOUR WALLET IN THE CAR!!! 😂Laura in the service department is absolutely phenomenal with everything and anything that has a Stihl label on it! Whew I was humbled really quick and I thought I knew my stuff, but she had me cracking up and Johnny on the spot pulled out the exact parts I've needed. I've been afraid to go here for a while but I finally did, I had to because they had the parts I needed. This place is the Mecca of Ace hardware stores and the Stihl department is scary, hide your wallet. Both the Laporte and Michigan City Kabelin Ace's are hands down my favorite, and I absolutely love my local Hopkins Ace that's a 2 minute drive from me, I'm not knocking anyone but I've never seen an Ace like the Kabelin in Laporte. Hopkins is incredible too but specializes in Echo while Kabelin deals with Stihl. 5 stars and I'd go higher if I could.Mit

Couldn't get paint match. New technology does not let you manually adjust colors (i.e. add a little more of one color to make darker, more blue, more green, etc.) Ruined 2 gallons of paint. Too purple or too bright blue. Employees tried to be helpful. Not faulting them at all.

At least ACE can do their job! Unlike Menards where you don't get help, and when you do you they don't know squat, this place not only helped, had 3 PEOPLE there willing to, but got me EVERYTHING I needed that Menards didn't!Great people! Great service! Will return!

Great place to find out of stock items. Very helpful staff knowable. Great place to get what you need they also have a service department. On the bad side I ordered a new Belt for my riding lawnmower they told me that it would be in within 2 days but it took 8 days to get in and when I went to check out what the problem was she said that she couldn't find it! Pissed me off badly. Just a heads up

Kabelin's is fantastic! The service is great. I went in there today looking to repair my sump pump. After looking at a picture of my pump, the very knowledgeable saleswoman told me that, instead of buying parts for it, it probably just needs a good cleaning. They put the customers needs over the bottom line. I like that.

I usually end of going to the one on East side of town smaller store, great service. But when i do go on West side Greeter Jim always brings a smile to my face. Either store prices can be a little high but saves than having to go to Michigan City if one don't have to.

Tried to borrow a tool. I was told on the phone they had one, when I got there in-person I was told it was broken. The employee helped us find one at a sister store 25 minutes away, they said we could return the tool to the Michigan City location but when we got the tool from Laporte we were told it had to be returned to the store that loaned it to us.Seems to be a great deal of miscommunication across the board. But I guess one star for checking the computer to see who else had the tool.

They got everything you could need for your home here. From toys, to plumbing and yard care. Super friendly staff that goes above and beyond to make sure you get exactly what you need. Would recomend!

After waiting 5 days they cancelled my online order while holding my money and claiming it was "being prepared". Skip free curbside pickup it's a waste of time. Feels like I'm dealing with a company stuck in the 90s. The best part is it still shows the item in stock online.

This place is absolutely horrible. If you have a child, or know of someone attempting to get a job here...beware. A girl I know started there and the second month of employment she was sent home, and later put on 2 week probation period for forgetting to ask a customer about a rewards program, and answering the telephone while having the drawer open. It's quite obvious, in the REAL world....it takes more than 6 to 8 weeks to learn a new job and all the ends and outs of that job. Especially a newly graduated young person starting out in the working world...what pressure it must be to know you will possibly get fired and wrote up all over coupons and discount codes. What a sad, sad business. Trish, maybe you should take some extra training on how to property mange employees.

My latest dealing with the Laporte location wasn't great. Good luck getting any help in the rental department. I waited for 20 min for some help and there were 2 other customers. The rental guy had a bad attitude. When I returned my item the next day, the same employee sees me unloading and doesn't bother to ask if I needed any help. Very unprofessional once again. I also learned that I would have to present my credit card again (which I didn't bring) to have my deposit returned. That information would have been nice. The girl that checked my return in was very pleasant and helpful. The machine worked as it was supposed to. I will still go elsewhere next time

I don't find the staff any more knowledgeable than any box store, the rewards program is pretty sad, and somehow I tried to even exchange a couple fittings and got a total of $5 due...same prices, even exchange, but was told "that's just how it is." I see no reason to return to overpay for this level of service.

I had a large special order to return. I had some info needed but not all. They accepted the return. I cant say hassel free but I understand some of the issues. Linda one of the assistant managers handled the situation well.

Ordered items online and shipped to store to pickup. Went to pick-up and experienced confusion and disorganization. Paperwork was not kept with the item resulting in a significant wait for the paperwork to be located and brought to sign for items. Big box stores have a much better system for this type of purchase. Will not order from Ace Hardware online again.

Staff is usually helpful. Some prices can be a little high, but they usually always have what you need. My youngest son call it the popcorn store.
