The Google search for “The best fish store for pretty bettas” somehow brought me to Fish Happens, and their Facebook page certainly drew me in with all of the plants and tanks they have. Once walking in the door I knew why this was the place I needed to be. The staff was excellent and knowledgeable. They really took the time to match the right new fish and plants with what we already had going at home. They had a great selection of different species, colors, and sizes of fish, and their plant game is on point. I haven’t been super keen on even having these tanks, but the kids…so it was great to learn a bit and make it more fun for us all. We have this new all white male Half Moon Dumbo Betta to enjoy in our all black decor tank with live plants. Meet Atticus! Thank you, Fish Happens, for the excellent experience!

I had such a great experience here. Once I walked in the door I was greeted immediately and welcomed. There are so many tanks, fish, plants, aqua scape, feed, and many other aquarium needs. I just finally got things settled and my at home aquarium is looking great! Thanks again Fish Happens!

Went to this location a month or two prior to this review, but after a few experiences with other less than appealing fish stores…I wanted to come back and leave a review to show how much I appreciated this trip.Met two guys that I believe were the owners. Really nice guys and had some lovely conversation. Beautiful fish selection and a ton of different plants. Absolutely loved browsing the plant selection and found some guppy grass that I hadn’t found anywhere else. Other places that had guppy grass was bladder snail infested, but didn’t really notice it from this place’s plants. Loved that they had a more reasonable price on shrimp compared to other stores, as they are my favorite aquarium creatures. My wife also picked out some beautiful guppies that were uncommon colors/patterns.I know some people complain about the algae in tanks, but we don’t mind it. It’s natural and provides a lot of food for creatures. As long as they kept the front of tanks clean to see, doesn’t bother me.Overall, it was a very enjoyable trip and we plan on going back again at some point, even though it is a bit of a drive for us.

This place has potential but as it stands it is a terrible source for anything Aquarium related.Every tank is rife with unkempt algae of all sorts.Overcrowding is rampant and many fish are so stressed they’ve all but lost their color.Overhearing one of the employees give wildly inaccurate information to a man and his daughters in an attempt to make a sale was disheartening.I’d love to support my LFS and I truly hope they are able to make the revenue needed to make improvements, but until then I can’t bring myself to spend a dime in a store with such conditions.

This was our 2nd trip despite being a bit of a drive for us, but was TOTALLY worth the little extra time to find many, beautiful, imported guppies that I was after! I was shocked to find such a selection, without having to buy online. I was able to drive just a little to be able to hand pick my fish, and not have the worry, and the expense of shipping. We already have another trip planned in the future. Worth the drive, and a large selection of fish. We also love that they sell aquarium Co op products, without having to pay shipping.

Greet place, awesome people working there. The most important thing is: they have everything you need for freshwater needs. Got couple designed female bettas that I have been looking for a long time. Keep up the good works guys. We will come back soon even over an hour away.

First visit here today!! Tyler was incredibly helpful, if anyone remembers him from The Reef I recommend going in and checking out the shop and will get wonderful information. He helped me transform my aquarium today!! Totally thrilled. Well worth your trip! Will definitely go back. Just found my new favorite fish store. Fish Happens is fabulous!! Many thanks to Tyler. This is a great local place for your aquarium needs. I was helped as soon as I got in the door and the fish and shrimp I bought are a great, healthy addition to my tank! Will definitely be back

I have visited this store a few times, and keep coming back! The staff is very knowledgeable of every species that they have in the store. I purchased a few fish today, and am so obsessed! I could sit and watch these for hours! Will definitely be back soon!

I just moved here and needed to find a good fresh water fish store. I had frequented The Reef but I love finding good local small businesses I can build a relationship with. I found Fish Happens on FB marketplace. They have a really fun assortment of freshwater fish! The guppies he had flown in from Thailand or Tijuana? Can’t remember but they are the most unique Guppies I have ever seen! Definitely going back when I set up my bigger tank. It took all my self control not to buy one in every color! Unfortunately my 20 gallon tank is already probably a couple fish over stocked.It’s also nice that he has an assortment of plants. Not just water plants but house plants that you can grow out of your tank. And baby ones Ones propagating in glass jars. I aim to have as natural aquatic set up I can. So I appreciated the filtering plant options. 5 Stars!Attached is some of the underwater plants I bought from him!

Healthiest fish I have ever seen, all in natural environments. The fish are NOT overcrowded whatsoever and homed with those of the same species, environment, needs, and temperament. Entire ecosystems in each individual tank that balance each other out incredibly, with snails, loaches, frogs, and plecos as cleanup crew. Not a SINGLE speck of buildup or algae in any of the tanks. Store itself is very clean and organized. The man who helped us was absolutely incredible in his knowledge of the different kinds of fish and plants, as well as the individual needs of each and everything.I would shop there even if it was expensive, but the prices are cheaper than any other breeder/supplier/store I have ever seen and come from people who are genuine and talented at what they do. Bought all of the equipment for a tank (tubing, air pump, sponge and vessel) AND all different kinds of plants to start a little pond setup for my frog and spent no more than $50 for what would cost you nearly a hundred at a pet store, and for double the quality!Only place I ever recommend shopping at regarding all needs fish and plant related. Worth going out of your way for. Tip jar was overflowing with other happy customers.

Tyler was a big help. I was setting up a new heavily planted tank and he suggested a few different plants I wouldn’t have thought of and the tank turned out great! I will be back once it’s established for some new fish and all my aquarium needs!

The staff is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to tank welfare, and the best kind of fish that can live harmoniously. Would highly recommend this facility for any beginner or hobbyist that is wanting to keep a good aquarium! Mine is still a work in progress, but I am going to add more fish to this tank from that store!!

I just visited this shop on Saturday, March 2, 2024.They seemed to be quite busy! The customer service there is amazing. Super nice guys who want to help and educate.I loooove the rock/driftwood/sand table. It gives you a nice spot to check out each piece. :)They carry Aquarium Co-op Merchandise and Dustin's Fishtank plants, which is great!The selection of fish and supplies available seems very decent. However, it's a bit difficult to find the fish you're looking for due to the way all the fish are somewhat randomly stocked. Tank labeling is difficult to read. I suggest using a generic photo/common fish name tag under each tank for stock identification.The algae and plants in the tanks make it difficult to find/see what you're looking for in each tank. I love that the fish have live plants to enjoy though. The windows in the building will possibly need to be blacked out to help cut down on the algae in the tanks.I like that the bettas are not cupped, BUT females should not be housed together *unless* they're very, very closely monitored (a fish shop likely doesn't have time to monitor this closely enough). There were multiple females attacking each other in the female betta tank. :(Super thankful for their kind assistance. :) I got a tiny, female Crowntail betta from them. The price for her was affordable at $12.99.I was told their bettas come from Vietnam.This tiny gal seems to be energetic and happy in her own tank/territory. :)This is constructive feedback for the shop because I know they are a newer business. :) I am in no way bashing them. I'm wishing them all the best!Update 3/9/24|Parasites/infectionPoor tiny betta has parasites and is developing secondary infections from them. I have spent a lot of money trying to medicate her.Luckily, there are no other fish in my tank. She was showing signs of flashing right away after getting her home.Be sure to quarantine new fish for at least two weeks before adding them to your aquarium and have parasite meds and antibiotics on hand just in case. :( So sad and disappointed. Hoping she makes it.

This store is amazing!! They have done such a great job in setting up a great local place that is down to earth and friendly for all of us fish enthusiasts. The owners are very knowladgeable and welcoming to talk you through any questions or concerns you have. If your just starting into this hobby or have been in it for years they can help you out.!! Also the store itself is very inviting and pretty with all of its plants and so many pretty 🐟. I will come back for all my future fish/tank needs!!Thank you so much 💓

Love this aquarium store! They have quickly become our go to spot for our aquarium needs. We had a bully angelfish that they allowed us to trade in for some much more peaceful fish, and we are so grateful! They have the best variety of guppies and betta fish by far and they keep a wide range of plants as well. My husband and I also enjoyed feeding the fish in their indoor pond. The owner and staff are highly knowledgeable and friendly as well. Highly recommend this store!

My husband and I bought 11 female bettas for a sorority tank. The fish were well taken care of, not to mention beautiful. The tank was clean and suited for the fish. The employees were very knowledgeable and kind. We highly recommend them. The prices are reasonable. The videos are after we got the fish home so you can see their beauty.

I really didn’t want to write this review, but I must. My husband and I were extremely excited at the opening of this establishment. It was clean, everything from the floors to the tanks were tip top shape. Recently we were disappointed to see the tanks were a mess and the floors appeared as if a broom hadn’t touched it since opening. They say they like algae in reply to other people’s reviews but that much algae is just lazy fish keeping. Not to mention the whole place smelled like weed.After reading recent reviews it seems we are not the only ones to think this. I’ve also noticed the owner leaving nasty and unprofessional replies to people’s reviews and I imagine anyone who is reading this will also see a reply to my review! I don’t care. Beyond unprofessional and childish…I’m sure you will prove me correct in reply to my review. ;)

Quite possibly the prettiest guppies I’ve seen. I just lost a parrot that was 8 and it was hard for me not to replace her with one of the several beauties in their large tank to quickly heal my heart.My new obsession though…shrimp! The shrimp are gorgeous (no culls here) and fairly priced! Like online ordering bulk price price! I’m not mad that I pass by this spot off 465 frequently 🤓. Super patient and knowledgeable staff which is always something I appreciate. See ya soon!

10/10 fish store! Went there to pick up some new aquarium plants. Great selection of aquatic plants and best selection I've seen in a while. Great assortment of fish, and they had some of the largest snails I've ever seen. So many different assortments of platyies as well. Gorgeous store and the owner was friendly. Fish Happens is the absolute best fish shop we've ever been to and our new favorite place to go for fish, plants and fish needs ie food, aquarium treatments etc. Fish Happens is very knowledgeable in their fields, and family friendly. The passion that the employees of Fish Happens shines through in their knowledge and care that they put into every aquarium and plant life in the shop. I highly recommend Fish Happens to anyone.. I know one things for sure me and my children will be going back for our fish aquarium and aquarium plant needs. Thank you for a wonderful environment and incredible experience.

I have been in a lot. I have found this shop one of the best Tropical aquarium keepers in Indy. The plant selection is huge, and great priced. The fish are healthy, and eat. Then the staff, I have had great friendly conversation's with them, and there great people in my book. Needless to say this is my go to store for all my Fish n Plants. Well done! Keep up the great work.

Great little shop! Being only 5 mins from my house is a great bonus, but being right off of I-465 in Beech Grove, it should seem pretty close to everyone. They offer a good variety of fish and low tech plants. Between work and kids having practices or other stuff after school, their hours of operation give me a chance to stop in after whatever else I have going on during the day. Definitely worth checking out!

10/10 recommend this aquatic shop!!The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable! I completely trusted the employees with their advice for my new tank. If you have any questions at all the employees can definitely give you a straight forward answer. You can tell the fish from this store are happy and healthy. Most aquatic stores have fish in low quality tanks that are crammed with fake decor, THIS IS NOT THE CASE AT FISH HAPPENS!! The fish and plants are thrivinggggg at fish happens
