Everyone who helped us adopt Bucky was amazing. His caretaker offered plenty of information on him which helped us make our decision! It was a little rough the first couple of months (his leg was amputated, so he was learning how to do do everything again.), but now we cannot imagine life without him. The Humane Society holds a special place in our hearts for helping us take home our lil’ man.

Fabulous people, very clean shelter and they helped adopt adopt Scooter who had been handed over by previous family after his owner died. Scooter was so upset and he lived with a great foster for VHS. He has flourished into a cute teddy bear and very happy soul. He is not a young fella but is living his best life and we are so glad to see him happy again!

Usually I never have a problem people are always nice but as we bent down to look at a dog we were very rudely interrupted by an employee yelling at us to not put our hand in the kennel and that we are to talk to an employee if we wanna mess with a dog. We understand we were to keep our fingers out but this dog was extremely friendly and we literally had bent down for five seconds. I’ve never had a problem before messing with dogs that were friendly there. Everyone has allowed us to mess with them until this one girl. She was EXTREMELY rude and the treatment was unnecessary! She has no right to talk to people of her age that are customers the way she did. Fix your attitude.

I took in a community cat for a neuter non aggressive not feral in any way upon arrival I was told I had to put him in a raccoon trap. I would never had thought they would have neutei him and shoved him back in a trap where he could not stand up and forced to lay in his urine and blood until the next day. Went I voiced my concern and recommended changes could be made I was told I would no longer be able to bring any pets in for service. So $300 later after taking to my vet he had excessive bruising a infection and 7 days later he still reeks of urine after a bath. Was told community cats are not sweet house cats I guess they just treat them like trash not HUMANE I AM REACHING OUT TO CITY OFFICAILS TO TRY AND IMPLICATE CHANGED WOULD NOT RECOMEND THERE COMMUNITY CATEFOR ANY ANIMAL STRAIGHT Barbaric

I adopted a puppy less 3 months old. She was spayed I payed 250.00 adoption fees. All I got was a pup full of worms and no vaccinations. I had to pay for all the puppy shots dewormer. I’ve always been a big advocate to adopt not shop. But my experience is not good

Well they are nice as far as social skills. We picked up our rescue on Wednesday. She was fixed the day before. She scratched her stitches open Thursday night. We took her back to VHS on Friday they took our bandage off that we put on to stop the bleeding and said she'd be fine. So on our way back she starts bleeding everywhere and she is not ok. So we are on our way to a vet clinic to have someone else look at her now. She has blood every where. She is so stressed. It's so sad.

We spayed 3 farm cats through their Feral Cat program! It was so affordable and super easy check in and pick up process. All three cats did extremely well. Staff was always friendly. We really appreciate the affordable spay and neuter program for feral/community cats. I urge you to do your part and get strays spayed through this program. They have a couple shots included in the price as well!

They won’t answer my calls so I don’t know if I want to go there or not. But can someone please tell me if they have Neverland Dwarf Rabbits.

This place was great and we were able to adopt an awesome dog quickly and affordably. We paid 150 dollars to adopt Kasper, a Dutch Shepherd and since he is heartworm positive that included a full regiment of heartworm medication as well as the treatment he needs a month down the road and an overnight stay for observation. We were able to acquire a dog bed AND a full size kennel for an additional 50 dollars total. We are very happy with our experience.Since then: We've adopted another dog and a Cat! They are all very healthy and the process has always been easy and fun.

Folks there do a great job keeping up the place and taking care of the animals. If anyone can please go look at Jerrie, she’s a sweet Pitbull that deserves a home. Unfortunately my landlord won’t allow her.

This is an extraordinary animal shelter! So clean and the animals are all HAPPY! I was hoping to find an older dog to love and pamper and Kelsy knew exactly the one. I adopted Melo who is 8 years old. He's great! You will be impressed by this place. It is awesome. So are the people: very happy, upbeat, and welcoming. They took the time to give me background information. Vacs are UTD, HE IS microchipped, and even Melo's teeth are in good shape! I wish more animal shelters were this nice. It's really an exceptional place :)

When my husband and I set out to adopt a cat from the Vanderburgh Humane Society, we wanted to make sure we found a compatible match for our dog, Olive. The staff was incredibly patient as Olive met several cats. We finally found Malcolm. He has been a loving member of our family now for 5 years. I can't speak highly enough of the facilities, staff, and adoption experience at VHS!

It took 3.5 hours for our dog to receive a rabies vaccination during the low cost vaccine clinic hours. That was horrendous. But they are still a great organization that does a lot of good for animals and the community. And their thrift store is AMAZING

-5 stars, I left this place feeling terrible. I am autistic and already struggle with social settings but these people made me feel so much worse. I went in trying to adopt a dog but because of how overwhelmed they made me I just couldn’t. The staff are extremely rude and treat you like you don’t know anything and are stupid. They act as if they know what’s best for you and it’s extremely condescending. I would not recommend anyone go here, I had a terrible experience.

Visited the VHS Thrift store today and they were busy!! Which is great because all of the fur babies they take care of deserve the support from the public. Found an adorable ottoman and coasters. Love the thrift stores!!

I can’t even begin to explain my gratitude for this place. I adopted a sweet little cat at the end of January. The process was simple, and I got to pick her up about 4 days later when she was spayed. When I finally got her home, she came right out of the kennel and curled up next to me. I allowed healing time before introducing her to the other cat. Once these two met, they became inseparable and bonded immediately. Our home is so happy to have her. Thank you Vanderburgh Humane Society! We love our newest family member.

The staff in the adoption part of the building are wonderful. However, the checkout ladies in the resell shop are some of the rudest people I have encountered. They were rude when I went months ago and I didn’t return until today hoping for a better outcome. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I understand that this is a volunteer position, but if you can’t at least speak in a half way nice manner, I think they need to reevaluate why they are volunteering. I like the shop, some of the stuff is overpriced. The social media person does not give prices on Facebook, which you need to start taking pictures with the price shown if that’s the case. We woke up early to get a scooter and it was only $10 less than brand new in store price and visibly used. Last summer we bought bikes for $100 a piece and the brakes broke in a day. It’s a good concept but there’s a lot that can be approved upon in the shop.

Recently adopted a 3 y/o cat from here and have been to the vet 3 times in the past 3 days. The first visit was a basic checkup, but they pulled out globs of black ear wax from his ears. The samples were tested and he was found to have a yeast/cocci infection in both ears. The day after the first vet visit, he vomited and I found a worm in his bile. Had to go back and get him deworming medication. I called the humane society since I figured the cat should have been in relatively good health when I adopted him. The individual I talked to said that on their exam of him ( on 12/21), they found nothing in his ears and did not have the worm medication in so they weren’t able to give it to him. I highly doubt within the few days I’ve had him, his ears got that clogged with wax and infected. Also, I was never informed of him missing that medication. Today, I’ve had to take my cat back to the vet due to him peeing blood.Overall, I’m not happy with the condition my cat was given to me in. It’s unfair on him to start up in a new space and place with new stress AND dealing with these various health concerns. I wish they had been more upfront about the missing medication and I’m really just not buying that they didn’t see all the black wax in his ears.

Had an excellent experience! We hung out in the cat lounge, and got to know several kitties before deciding who to adopt. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Went back to donate some used items, and they seemed very grateful.

Kennels were nice size, separate areas for interacting with the dogs. And a nice greenspace area is available for potty breaks.

Very nice shelter. Clean enclosures. Animals looked clean. They had treats at every pen. Most of the dogs knew how to sit on command. They had more detailed information about the animals as to whether or not they were good with children, cats, and other dogs. Nice visitation area. Applications were not hard to get through. Staff was incredibly helpful. Nice little shop for things that a new owner might need.

I love this place! They have great prices on second hand miscellaneous cat/dog stuff, reasonable adoption prices, and the low-cost spay and neuter clinic has the best prices in town (plan on going at least an hour before doors open so you can get seen!- also, make sure you donate because you're getting a STEAL on services!!)However, it's impossible to contact someone for setting an appointment about an animal spay/neuter and if you finally do get in contact with someone, the lady in charge just seems rude and miserable on the phone. Overall an unpleasant experience dealing with her. Maybe she just needs staff to help answer emails/return calls? Not sure, but no reason to be mean and condescending!
