I came to hardings today around 1pm to grab a few groceries. There was one checkout line open at the time I got up to the front to pay. At that time I was standing behind 2 Hispanic women in line. The cashier was an older white woman with dark colored hair, I do not recall her name. Eventually another woman came and opened up a second checkout lane. I told the people behind me they could go ahead as I was next up to go behind the 2 Hispanic women. That was a mistake. Very quickly the cashier in my lane began yelling at the Hispanic women who I noticed at that point were attempting to steal from the store by placing items on the bottom shelf of their buggy in hopes the cashier would not see them. The cashier started yelling at them stating they needed to pay. The two women ignored her and began having a conversation in Spanish. I stood there awkwardly while some of the people behind me in line went to the next line as the cashier yelled “there’s another line you can go to! This is gonna take a minute!” I had stood there for quite some time and I was not going to go to the back of the other line when I’d already been there for a while. The Hispanic women eventually did put the goods back onto the end of the cashier line as the cashier continued to yell at them even stating “do you comprende? I know you comprende!!” Very awkward to stand there and listen to this all unfold. The cashier then yelled at them to pay for what they had and did not give them even a second to gather their money to pay without repeating herself two other times getting louder and louder. Truly I know these women were in the wrong for trying to steal but this cashier was also entirely out of line with her reaction. After awhile they paid and I was next up. The cashier began slamming the separator and my groceries and was mumbling under her breath. Never once did she acknowledge me and instead actually began having a conversation with the woman behind me who was very obviously a white woman with her child. The cashier stated “I can’t believe they thought they could do that. These freaking Mexicans. WELCOME TO MEXICO I GUESS!!” She still is slamming things at this point at yelling. I began to laugh because at this point it was obvious to me that she assumed I was not a white customer in which she was ignoring me and now treating me poorly due to the women before me and their actions. She then slammed my groceries down after bagging them and angrily said “HOW ARE YOU PAYING?!” I told her with card and then proceeded to pay. She still never made eye contact and never said anything else just continues to make racist remarks about “Mexicans” to this other woman. She threw my receipt at me and I told her “I hope you have a better day” in which she ignored my comment. All of this occurred still with the two Hispanic women in earshot range as well. I’ve had a lot of odd encounters at this store but this was a new all time low for me. Again I understand that the two Hispanic women did something wrong and I get why the cashier was upset about it but to make racist remarks, yell, slam groceries around and essentially act like a child throwing a fit as a reaction to it and then proceed to treat me- a paying customer with no decency because she assumed my tan must have meant I too were Hispanic and a pos is disgusting behavior. I will no longer be shopping here as a result of this incident.

Not very friendly when a cashier has a simple question about wic n April decides to yell and speak to employees that have been there for years with such disrespect. That is no way to conduct business in such a small town.

It's very convenient to have a grocery store nearby. I really like that there is hot food during the day and the staff are so friendly and so awesome they go above and beyond for their customers!

The produce usually looks pretty sad. That makes me sad, because I have to drive further than the local grocery store to get better produce. The store is usually pretty clean. And the people who work there are super friendly.

We were visiting in Elkhart and stopped in to pick up some items. I wanted to find some good Amish baked goods, but no luck. Just Little Debbie's and other boxed cakes. The selection of items I did buy was limited and prices seemed to be high. Staff was not very friendly and I had to thank the cashier when I left. I was not impressed.

Called because I was just there. I paid for ice cream and came home without it. Called to see if it was at the registrar and they hung up on me. I had to call again and said not here and hung up. Very rude employees.

Just wanna start by saying that the staff is generally friendly, helpful, and experienced....the quality kinda stops there though...Their deli is by far probably the worst thing in the store. It's the driest chicken I've ever had and the rest of the food isn't much better. Idk if that has to do with the cooking staff or the cooking procedure for the Hardings brand but it's pretty terrible....the only real upside is the pasta side dishes and the boar's head deli meat/sandwichesAs far as the groceries, it's all pretty much a dollar more than it should be on most everything unless you catch a 10 for $10 sale on something. It'll work in a pinch of you only need a couple items but I don't recommend doing your weekly shopping here

I was given a Harding's Gift card last month when we had a power outage. It really helped me to purchase groceries while being able to find great sale prices on items that I needed. Thank you to the organization that made it possible to receive the gift card and thank you to Harding's for having great sale prices. The kindness and thoughtfulness is very much appreciated.

Cashiers are nice. Deli worker was very rude when asking for a family meal because it was inconvenient for her to make more chicken for lunch. Check dates on meat sells expired goods. Very expensive.

Had to give this a 1 star rating, due to the girl Amberley. She was so rude to me when I asked her a question, maybe I bothered her while she was using her phone!! But the STAR goes to the girl Christy she was so friendly and knew every direction I needed!! We need more girls like her to help. If it wasn't for her I probably wouldn't ever come back.

Stopped in here from out of town camping. Little grocery store with the basics. We adored the lady in the deli. Missed her name but she said she just came back to work. Would come back if in town again.

Prices leave a great deal to be desired and the selection is not vast. I will say it's better than the dollar store alternative but that's not saying much. If I needed a grocery store in that area I would choose this one, but only because options are slim.

I really wanted to like Harding's. But when my wife and I visited we just had a poor experience. We tried to go in with open minds, but with people smoking right by the entrance and with cars parked with their music blaring loud enough to hear it across the street, it really sullied our first experience there. Honestly, I was a little bit surprised that a manager didn't come outside and say something to anyone, ask them to move or something. When we went in there was a very much a dollar store vibe, and the service and speed was just okay. If I'm in a real crunch and this is the only store around, then I will use it, aside from that we will probably not go back.

I used to come here weekly when I lived in Bristol and I loved this local grocery store. Great produce, meat, and friendly staff. I'm happy to say I'm moving back to Bristol later this year and this will once again become my hometown market!

I have finally found it...the superman ice cream and the mint chocolate chip(yes the mini chocolate chips) we all loved as kids or younger adults here at hardings! They also do have some tasty hot food!

I have been shopping at Hardings for over 40 years. Today I spent my last dollar there. That women who works in the deli is the rudest most condescending person I have been in contact with for a long time. I refuse to be talked to like that by her or anyone else in the service industry. Since she refused to carry much I will shop in Mishawaka, which is sad as I always try to shop local.

Don't put a sign up that says your Deli counter is open until 7 if it's not going to be open until 7. 🤷‍♀️
