We filled out an application and didn’t hear from anyone for 2 weeks. In those two weeks I emailed and left voicemails and nothing back. When I finally got through to someone they claimed to have emailed me when they hadn’t. I checked every single day for an email. Finally I got an email after 10 pm stating they can’t let us adopt. Poor communication and service.

Be ready to barter your first born child at minimum before you’re “approved” to adopt. The political red tape required to give a pet a good home is beyond redundant. I get it, they want them to go to good homes. That being said, just about any home is better than a shelter. It’s hard to believe they care about animals, yet will let them rot in a cage based on a single persons feelings. Communication is non existent if it isn’t initiated by the potential owner. Terrible business policy and “customer service.” Not recommended.

I just adopted BLU, and he's amazing. He's my best friend already. He is doing so well at his forever home. Thanks, APL.I was really amazed at how fast the process went.

our bad story on this place started with 1 of our 2 cats suddenly passing away. and we went to Petsmart to look at cats from Animal Protection League we found 1 we loved and wanted to give a forever home to filled out adoption form out.took 4 days to recieve a call was told we were sent a email. we never got it, waited 8 more days, called them again was told we would recieve another email. We didnt, waited 4 more days called again. was told they think we r people they dont want to adopt 1 of their cats to. Wont explain why they think that. I have called multiple times to multiple people there. even the director.and no one will call us back to explain, why we cant adopt a cat denying a cat a loving forever home or trying to work out a way to adopt.in all good consciousness we cant recommend this place.

Very nice staff, animals are given attention and are known by name, the staff knew each animal and their story, it took about a week from the time we 1st visited until we got the call that the cat we wanted to adopt was going to come home with us.

I don't live in Anderson Indiana anymore but. I Love this place they help so many Animals. I have 2 cats that came from there and if I am in the town visiting and I was looking for a cat or Dog I would have to go there and get one or maybe 2. Malia is really a great advocate for the Animals and what people really need to do for the Animals and how to help with over cramed Shelters.

These animals are loved and taken care of by the staff and volunteers. It's just a shame that it's overpopulated because so many of the people of Madison county don't want to take proper care of their pets. If you can, donate or volunteer, the dogs and cats would love you for it!

This shelter is amazing! Very caring volunteers who genuinely want the best for humans and animals! They took in 22 cats from a hoarding situation … my baby Bruno (previously Abner) was one of those cats. I visited multiple times before completing adoration process and the entire day I was there to bring him home it seemed everyone stopped to tell me how excited they were to hear he was going home with me. He truly bonded with me at the shelter and was able to grow even more once we were home. He does have a blind eye and I’m always thankful the shelter chose not to remove it completely. First photo was his shelter photo and the second was once he was home

Friendly, caring staff. A good experience while we were looking to find our new furry companion. Had a meet and greet in their well kept outdoor pen which they kept clean. Answered questions we had before and during the visit and made the adoption process a breeze.

Love that they are there for the animals. I wish that the smells could be addressed a little better. The cat house had a very strong odor.

These people are so passionate about animals! They make the adoption process so simple. We welcomed Dylan into our home in October and love him to death 🧡🧡

Applied for adoption of a dog. Got an automated confirmation email that the application was received. My husband and myself called and left three messages to check on our application status over the course of a week and a half with no call back. There was zero communication but their Facebook page was regularly being posted with other updates on other animals. We then received an email a few days after the dog was adopted out at a local event that he was gone and asking us if we’d like a different one. I understand the limited staffing but there was zero communication returned and seeing other updates being made on social media made a statement. If they are having trouble with getting homes for these animals, a big part of it is more than likely the lack of communication.

The water fountain does not work and it needs better yard care. However, the play area is pretty big.

The love & care that was given to my Roscoe made it easier for him and I to be apart 10 day's . The staff & volenter' s should know that we thank them sincerely . Also being in a set income and now transportation as well the seen that my did got the medical attention he needed and I got ( payments) that I needed . Thank you to all . I encourage you to become a volenter ( your own hours) and come walk these dog's or bathe them it really makes a world of difference to the less fortunate . Thank you to all involved with the shelter . It's so wonderful to have my" doggie son" back home .

We got our new pack member from APL. The staff was great and they obviously care a lot about the well being of the animals.

They are the closest no kill shelter to me and everyone I have talked to recommended them but when I called them they told me that I have to live in Madison county/Anderson area to surrender my beautiful husky (which I don’t want too but unfortunately I have too 😭) the lady on the phone was absolutely rude. I’m pouring tears talking to her and all she had to say was call someone in your area. I just don’t understand how Indiana has only a few no kill shelters and the one I called told me no!!! I didn’t know you had to live in a certain area to bring your fur baby to a no kill shelter.

Came here a couple of times now. Initially looking for a dog to share the love with but decided we had enough pets already. The staff were more than happy to assist us with walk arounds with a couple of the dogs. They seem to be well kept here and would definitely advise other to visit if in the need for a loving friend. We most recently visited after our cat had to be put down. We came by to feed our need to get a cat again and had to take home another the instant we saw him. His name is Samuel L. Catson. Enjoy.

I believe everyone needs to remember that most of the staff are volunteers. The APL is always shorthanded on help and underfunded. Truly a labor of love for GOD'S creatures and doing the best they can. Over the 4th of July holiday, they took the time to get my application processed for Gladys Anne Doyle, our adopted GSP and allowed us to bring our mini doxie up to meet her before we took Gladys home. You all are wonderful caring people and I am VERY grateful for this hard labor of love that everyone does at the Anderson Animal Protection League!

Speaking as a local guide I absolutely love this place the people have hearts unlike any other. They're willing to listen and help any way possible. If you have an animal that you can no longer care for or you are in need of an animal that needs a home there are many animals here needing help and love please stop by and give them a visit. When it comes to adopting cats GOOD LUCK.The ladies are rude and inconsiderate. They question where the cat will stay etc. All that matters is people want to adopt them to bring them into a loving home. I guess the APL doesn’t understand that.

Visited APL solely for a meet and greet, and subsequent adoption. They were quick in processing adoption applications and setting appointments. Never really went inside but all took place out in the parking lot...a little unorthodox but it worked out.

I adopted "Crystal" 2 months ago from PetSmart. She is the best kitty ever. So loving and sweet. Her name is Willow now and she is the perfect kitty. Always has to be touching me and I love it!!! When our time together is done I will adopt another great kitty from APL. I rescued her, but she saved me❤️❤️❤️

Area for the cats was clean, didn't smell and sadly was packed with beautiful sweet babies crying for attention. I left in tears. Went looking for 2 of my grandkitties who are missing.

My dog escaped but was picked up by a good Samaritan and probably less than 15 minutes. That person took my dog to the animal protection league, which is no problem. However the APL charged $50 so I could get my dog back! My dog wasn’t even there for more than one hour.

I was upset to take my Mom's 2 cats. They have a cat house just for them to roam in. We found a home at the last minute...
