I was in town for business, as a OTR Hotshot trucking owner operator I often end up in different cities and like to try out the local restaurants and dining establishments. I asked the owner of the company I had just delivered some oilfield equipment of any good places to try tonight. He suggested Burton's Cafe. It was a little drive from where I was at but I was hoping it was worth it. With my Hotshot rig of a dually pickup truck and a 40 ft gooseneck trailer I need at least 65 ft to park and I have to be able to maneuver around. There are not many places you can do this. They had plenty of ample parking. So I went in and the young girls there were very nice and efficient. They were friendly but not overly. That is fine they good at what they did. So I was looking forward to a very unique or good variety of home cooked food and vegetables. Their menu was very basic and simple. That was fine too but I have been hoping for some really good at home cooking vegetables and dishes. They had the obligatory chicken fried steak, catfish but judging from the pictures it was just a couple small pieces. Their daily special was fried chicken and I wish I could have tried that but I'm trying to stay away from fried food because of gallbladder or some kind of stomach issue that doesn't let me eat too much on the road. So I didn't see much to order that met my criteria and I ordered the sirloin chop steak. I also ordered a house salad and I asked for blue cheese or balsmic vinegar dressing. They had neither. The child was your basic house salad but it was good and fresh. The mashed potatoes and brown gravy were the best part about the meal. The shops are on steak was a little disappointing it was more like a hamburger patty but it was tasty. The one thing that really did surprise and disappoint was I asked for some rolls, figured a place like this would have some good old home cooked rolls or bread. They told me they only have them on Sundays. Who does that? They advertise how good their pies were so that's the last minute I caved and asked for a peach pie. Wouldn't you know they were out LOL. Overall it's a great little cafe but that's the one who travels for a living and from the big city of Dallas Texas where there's 100 choices in any direction you go, I guess I'm not easy to impress. However I'm glad I found them because the experience and the food sure beat the franchise chains in every city.Parking: Truck parking

The burgers are pretty good. We had a new waitress on her first day, but she was pro, like she'd been there for years. They're very proud of their white pie, so I thought I'd try a slice. It was better than good - it was great.Burtons is a cozy dine-in country-style restaurant, perfect for a casual stop with family or a business chat.

We were camping nearby and ended up here by chance, the parking lot was full which is always a good sign so we thought why not? What a find! Everything was top notch. The service was great with no fanfare, and the catfish was probably the best I've had in my life, no kidding. Can't recommend enough. On*Update* - We stopped back by 2 weeks later on our way back from vacation, the catfish and all the sides were just as good. For an extra adventure the power went out but the super friendly wait staff powered through and took care of us! Looking for an excuse to get this way again.

I’ve eaten at many restaurants all over the US. I walk in and I was the only one under 70 in the restaurant, I should’ve walked right back out. Food was gross. I had the pulled pork plate it was very tough. They don’t use real butter they use margarine. So disgusting. Don’t waste your time. Their “white pie” is just marshmallow crème in a pie crust. I can’t believe we live in the same world as raisin pie. lol who came up with that.

We stopped in on a Saturday for their White Pie, one of my favorites. Their catfish dinner was the best catfish we've ever had with a wonderful , light coating. Loved the choice of sides, not too many places offer pickled beets . I do miss their fried okra they used to have. Servers were welcoming, attentive and friendly. We will be back next time we are in the area.

Good thing I'm not shy to talk to people. People, animals, myself, I'm chatty what can I say! While fishing, some locals told us to check out Burton's for a plate lunch and some pie. We weren't grabbing lunch but when I local says you have to go, you have to go!Funny thing is, I'm not an big pie lover. I know that must sound crazy right? I mean, my birthday is Pi Day for crying out loud! I should be celebrating any kind of pie right?!! Not that I'm totally anti-pie mind you, there are a few favorites. My top pick is my Gram's recipe. My family makes lots of variations of this recipe and they all make me happy! Old school apple with the crumble on top. The kind you sneak a nibble of before dinner. The other is a little bakery in Michigan near Jill 's Jilly Pad. They have the most unique flavored flaky crust like a whisper of vanilla nestled with almond. The tart fruit tops it off but, I digress this is about my next favorite pie!Burton's Cafe is now in the pie winners circle! Maybe they can deliver for my Pi Day next year?!? Have you ever heard of a White Pie...I never had and never ate one either. I could have eaten a whole pie instead of splitting one with my crew. It was so light and airy. What I probably would have imagined clouds to taste like if I was a kid, that or cotton candy! The fluff factor was on point! With a fine sprinkling of pecan dusting, it gave a slight bite with the crust. Nothing that would overpower the delicateness of the total pie mouth feel. I didn't feel stuffed or heavy, one may say guilt free as I haven't gotten back on track of mindful eating since about Thanksgiving...note to self, Big self, get back on track!"We shared a piece of chocolate peanut butter since it came highly recommended and shockingly that was not heavy and overwhelming as I imagined it to be. The blend of peanut butter and chocolate ratio was measured out by pie gods.Speaking of shocking, there was the sweetest girl servers behind the counter. Amy and Whitley. Coop was asking about Amy's personal best catch at Rend Lake to which she quickly asked if we'd like to see it! The fish was nearly the size of her! A jumbo lake catfish that we couldn't believe she was holding up! I can't spoil her story so you'll have to head there to hear the ending! She had a some great comedic timing! When Whitley was asked, hogging came up. Being a past resident of Louisiana I assumed actual HOGS. I asked how she caught them and she replied with, "You jump right on, hang tight and pull them out." What?!? Riding a hog?! Wow! Nope, a catfish...now I felt like a yankee again, boo. She too asked if we would like to see her best catch. See the attached photos because our mouths dropped open, which was good to put more pie in there! We saw plate lunches coming out of the kitchen for under 8 bucks that could feed our whole party of three. Homecooked pork chops, stuffing and gravy. We have to go back for the pie, the food, the top notch customer service and fish tales from two of the cutest and kind girls in all of Illinois! We WILL be back!#SupportSmallBusiness #SmallYall #SupportSmallWhereEverYouGo

Food & service were wonderful, but it was so busy, we sat down at an unbussed table, and it took another 5+ mins to get it cleared from last customer. However, their service & food quality was fantastic, and the food was served accurately, hot & delicious to each of us in our 7 person table. Kudo's to Burton's Cafe for expeditious, great service, delicious family style lunch, and all 8-10 daily entree choices plus sides looked truly wonderful!! Highly recommend!

Awesome little place, We was a party of 3 and enjoyed the setting. Wife had the white pie i had the chocolate pie. We had burgers and fries. Pies where ok but they tasted like they was set in a fridge without being covered and could taste the fridge taste on the pies. Food was pretty good burgers where about average could tell they was frozen patties. Was not busy when we came in but awesome little atmosphere to enjoy a meal and relax. Prices where fair definitely worth stopping and checking out!
