DON’T GO THERE IF YOU HAVE ANY EXOTIC OR RARE PET EVEN IF THEY SAY THAT THEY DO KNOW HOW TO TREAT THEM!!! My pet died because of this mistake!I had an Axolotl that’s been sick for couple days, she had something looking like fungus or bacteria around her mouth and I decided to take her to Dr. Roberts because when I called to ask if any doctor can help me with my rare pet they said that Dr. Roberts knows how to treat Axolotls. My water quality was good and I didn’t know what exactly caused my axolotl got that disease since that happened for the first time in 5 years that I had her.The exam was terrible, doctor clearly didn’t know what he was doing, that was the first time he saw axolotl probably. When he came in to the room he had opened tab in his iPad where he was searching what is an axolotl. He didn’t even took a skin test sample to see what kind of fungus or bacteria exactly on my pet. He just looked at my axolotl cluelessly and told me to buy some medicine for her and I don’t need a prescription for it. I went to pharmacy and it appears that I DO need a prescription but the doctor didn’t gave it to me. So I waited 1 more day because of this doctor’s mistake and my axolotl started to feel much worse. I payed $200 for pointless exam where doctor just looked at my pet and said “yeah, that’s a fungus” like I didn’t know it before I went there. He didn’t tell me anything right away, he just told me that he needs to do his research on it and he’ll contact me later while my pet was feeling worse and worse every hour. Anyway, I waited 2 days for doctor to do something and the treatment didn’t help and my axolotl died because of Dr. Roberts mistakes and lack of education in axolotls and amphibians.It appears that the treatment Roberts gave me was wrong and my axolotl had bacteria infection, not fungus. He should’ve gave me not some medicine to mix with the water but injections because it was a severe infection.Horrible doctor, horrible price for such a poor examination of animal and horrible medical care. PLEASE don’t tell other pet owners that you can help cure any disease of the animal when you clearly have no idea how to help it. People come to this animal hospital for help, so don't lie that you have any experience just to take the money for exam and no help at all. Because of all this horrible mess and stupidest mistakes I lost my beloved beautiful rare axolotl.

We used the services at Wheeling Animal Hospital and Pet Resort to keep our dogs (2) during our Miami vacation. They were kind and our dogs are well taken care of. We had them both groomed during that time. We felt confident about our dogs safety and care for the time we were gone.

If you have money then they will take it all from you. That’s ALL they care about. Edit: since this place feels the need to constantly defend their bad behavior I will explain more. When I brought my cat in with a skin rash and paid over $700 for an exam and X-rays walked out with a prescription for food. Everything has been fine until this place denied me getting my cats food. It’s not my place to know the law on prescription cat food and no one told me I would need yearly visits or they would just deny my cat eating. So when they did deny and I did call the very rude women on the phone told me I would need to pay $100+ for them to see my cat and allow her to eat. Disgusting. Didn’t try to work with me and maybe approve this time if I scheduled something for the future. All I got was “I told you it’s the law” basically if I want my cat to eat they demand my money first for a visit I was never told about first. Will NEVER go back here again.

We had a scheduled appointment and nevertheless had to wait 30 minutes to see the doctor for a routine, yearly check-up. It is not unusual for us to have to wait this long despite having planned ahead and scheduled an appointment. Our dogs are -of course- very anxious in the waiting room and I hate having to see them suffer for so long. The doctor is competent and the prices are very high. We’re looking for a new place to bring our puppies.

After one of my rats got sick, I wanted to find a closer vet to take him to and found this. I took my rat, Atlas here.He unfortunately passed away few days later, but the staff was so kind and supportive when I brought him in. When they called and asked to set up a follow-up with him, I informed them he passed and they expressed their condolences.A few days later, I received a card in the mail signed by all the staff. It was a very nice touch and they truly did not have to do it, but it warmed my heart after such a tragic loss.A few weeks later, one of my other rats started choking, but I was so worried I immediately called them and even though they didn’t have any appointments available, they would take him first thing the next morning.I will be returning here with my rats because I had such a wonderful experience every time, everyone was so kind and interested in my boys, and I love sharing my love of rats with anyone willing to get to know them.

This is an edit to my previous review and if I could leave zero stars, I would.This place and "Dr." Roberts are indirectly responsible for the passing of my dog Chief. We adopted Chief from this place and he was supposedly their favorite adoptable.The beautiful boy you see in the pictures below passed 3/27/22 after visiting this place on 3/15/22, with bloating and lethargy. He was given antibiotics and that was it. We paid over $900 total with them and were given some pills. They also did not tell me what they were doing outside of blood work and x-rays or how much things would cost but they billed me for so much more and didn't explain it to me while I was there. They also charged me for things they did not administer to my dog or give me to bring home to administer to my dog.We had zero follow up, no one checked on our dog to see if he was ok, to see if their "treatment plan" worked or had any effect. They asked us to come in for blood work after the antibiotics were done, but even if we came in for the blood work the day he finished, that was Friday 3/25. We would've gotten his blood work results after he passed.When we went in the day after he passed, 3/28, to get his medical records for independent review "Dr." Roberts insinuated it was my fault for not bringing my dog to emergency care over the weekend when we saw he wasn't feeling well again, even though we saw lots of improvement and we followed everything they told us to do, to a tee.We have had his records reviewed by many other techs and vets and all say the "treatment plan" provided was not what they would have done and many advised we should have been referred to a specialist.Roberts is the owner-practioner of Higgins Animal Clinic, Arlington-Golf Animal Hospital, and Wheeling Animal Hospital.Edited 3/30: Matt, the practice manager, and "Dr." Roberts called us this evening to try and mitigate what happened to our dog. While Matt tried his best to use his corporate voice to make things better while we explained things and how our dog passed after showing some signs of improvement, Roberts blurted out "well he got better!" And for a vet to say that about an animal that just passed shows his lack of remorse for other animals. Matt tried but failed to smooth things over, because his vet wanted to show superiority to his clients and not allow us to speak.DO NOT GO HERE.

Wish I could give more than 5 stars. Our kitty was suffering from terrible gastrointestinal issues, and Dr. Roberts and his team were able to correctly diagnose the issue and treat our little cat with so much care. They sent us home with very helpful information, medication, and a healthy kitty! Highly recommend.

If you truly love your pet… don’t take them here. They take your dog from you and most likely abuse them in the back. My dog went for his shots and came out with a big hole in his leg. It look like they stabbed him with the needle. I never went back again. And they are over priced.

Highly disappointed in the staff here. Came to have my girls checked for ticks because we had found one and removed it ourselves but wanted a professional opinion and make sure everything was good. Apparently what they forgot to ask when we made the appt yesterday was they were not up to date on their rabies.....well it would have been professional if your staff would have asked when the appt was made wouldn't it? I mean....once they were checked wouldn't that have been the recommended suggestion after they were checked?? We did come out of a 2 yr Covid lock down perhaps you've heard!! Lady at the front didn't even apologize for wasting our time!! We literally waited 24hrs to get our girls checked just to gwt turned away. RUDE RUDE RUDE. 1 star is wayyyy too much for them to receive.

Dr. Roberts is awesome. I got my cat from their adoption program, and she is the sweetest cat I have ever had. I take her in for periodic checkups, and the staff is also as awesome as he is.

I took my two dogs to this place,for a weekend stay, very unhappy!!! I brought in medicine and give my one dog with specific directions. I drove 45 minutes to pick up my dogs. To come to find out they did not do their job and give my dog it’s medication and do it’s nails like they were supposed to! This is a big deal because my dog needs medication to get its nails cut, I had to take off work two hours to do this myself, and bring my dog in to another vet! . The woman at the front desk started being snotty with me, I asked for a manager to call me. She said they would be in later that day. It’s been three weeks no one has called me! I guess the manager doesn’t care about customer service! I will never go there again! I found a fabulous place in Palatine and I would never take my dogs to this resort!

1 star is too much for this place, Wheeling Animal Hospital and Pet Resort charges a premium for misdiagnosing your pets. I visited here with my perfectly healthy 5 year old cat just to go for a simple annual checkup. The female doctor, Dr. Roberts informed me that my cat would need a dental cleaning and multiple tooth extractions due to mouth/gum disease. After my cats checkup appointment I requested for a quote on how much the cleaning and extractions would cost, I was quoted close to a $1000.I decided to go to a different vet for a second opinion before paying that large of a price for a cat’s teeth cleaning/extractions, as well as making sure that’s what my cat actually needed. I eventually was only quoted $200-300 for the cleaning and extractions at a different vet, in addition to the new vet informing me that my cat did not need extractions and my cat’s teeth/mouth are perfectly healthy. My cat was misdiagnosed and would have lost healthy teeth at this place, I would highly recommend seeking other professional opinions before deciding to have any procedures done here.

We have been going to Wheeling Animal Hospital since we moved into the area. Our little fur daughter was only a year old and Dr. Roberts has taken great care of her! She’s now a 15 year old Maltese and still has the spring of a puppy!Dr. Roberts is so compassionate, knowledgeable, and caring. We can tell he loves his patients and their family members. He calls to check up on Molly after she has her shots to make sure she doesn’t have any reactions. He communicates her test results right away and makes sure we don’t any questions.Our little girl had a ruptured uterus and he immediately sent us to get surgical attention. Dr. Roberts stayed on top of it all, making sure the emergency vet surgical office had all the information they needed to attend to her and to save her! We are so grateful for the care and concern every one at this office has for our little girl. The staff is nice and friendly. They’re very knowledgeable.

My cat coco was misdiagnosed from dr Roberts and she ended up passing away. Was told she was having seizures and it wasn’t seizure she had saddle thrombus from blood clots. Dr Roberts prescribed her within seizure medicine glad I didn’t give it to her. She had an episode and I took her to emergency vet golf rose. Her lower part of her body became paralyzed again and she was in terrible pain. That’s saddle thrombus. Unfortunately we lost her.

Brought my dog here for many years. They docs and staff were always good with him and patient. We recently had to put him down. They made this process as best as it could be. Even draped him in his favorite blanket and gave him his favorite stuffy. If I ever get another pup pup this will still be our hostipal.

I've been there several times with my cats (I have 4 cats now). The front desk people are always polite, and the doctors I've met are knowledgeable. I like the fact that they show you prices before doing anything and tell you how necessary or how optional various procedures and/or tests and/or medications are.

Absolutely horrible. Please read the reviews.I brought my pet over an hour and a half here for the exotic pet doctor. We arrived on time and checked in.We were sat waiting for an hour. I sat on the floor with my pet as she started to get nervous and scared. We didn’t have water or anything. No one checked on us. Updated us. Nothing.They were aware that we had been the the emergency room prior. They didn’t ask for any records.I eventually packed up my pet and left the room, all the while hearing them laugh and joke in the back room behind the door.My poor pet is still sick but I’ll be looking elsewhere. Please please save yourself time, energy. If you care for your pet, truly, you wouldn’t come here, no matter what.

I will no longer take my pets to Wheeling Animal Hospital. They do not care about your pets or clients. I have been a customer of theirs for many years. Just last week we boarded our 2 dogs at their resort. In order for my dogs to stay there they had to get a couple of tests done which is fine. They charge a very high rate. I go to pick up my dogs and ended up taking my one pup to the ER because she had a hard time breathing. Come to find out she has kennel cough. Apparently there was an outbreak of kennel cough in their resort. They apparently didn't clean the area very well and when I went to confront Dr. Roberts he said it's just like daycare it can't be helped and then proceeded to charge me $208.00 for medicine for both dogs. I asked him if he is even going to discount the price of the medication and he said no I didn't charge you for the office consultation. I should not have had to pay anything! Plus when I called to get an answer nobody called me back. I had to Constantly call to get an answer. Save yourself the hassle and heartache and go to a different vet.

I have been coming here for years. The staff in the hospital are caring and compassionate people. The doctors are the best. They take the time to explain things and are very knowledgeable. The pet motel is also great. I've boarded my dog there several times. Everything is very clean. The staff are very attentive. Wheeling also takes in stray dogs and cats that are adoptable at a cheaper price than anywhere else. My daughter got her dog from there and has never regretted it. Definitely an A+ rating for Wheeling Animal Hospital and Pet Motel

Zero stars for this place. Took my dog for a dental cleaning and I was given an estimate for the work, I undestand that an estimate is not the final number. However, when we went to pick him up, the price was double. When I started to ask questions the staff respondened with "we don't have control over the price or the work that was done". They did not inform us of the additional cost, when I ask why they didn't include the price per extraction on their first estimate, all they could answer was"well you sing yes for extraction"Instead of getting an answer or an explanation, the nurse that was explaining things to me started to hit the table making load noises, so then I hit the table to do the same, but oh no. Becuase I reacted to their attitude they threated me by saying they wil call the police. I have been a customer since 2011 and never had this happen to me.I finally get to talk to the Doctor Robert. Which I tought was going to apologize for the staff's attitude. They were all laughing at us when we went into the room. I have the video of them laughing at how upset I was. They have no right to make anyone feel the way they made me feel today. And its not about the money, because we paid in full. It's about the principal and about treating your customers with respect and dignity. Which in this place there is zero of that. Not even once did they addmited to the bad business practise they have in this place. Not that they care, but I won't be returning to this hospital. I never understood why my dog was so afraid to go back each time we took him for his appointments.Now I see that if they treat their paying customers this way. How are they treating the animals in their care?? Please keep your pets safe and away from this place.
