We got our Alice here about two weeks ago. The adoption process wasn't too difficult. The staff was very friendly. She is a pain for now, but I'm very happy that we took her in.

February 4th I got my cat from Heartland Animal Shelter and i have never been more happy. They asked me what i’m looking for and what i wanted was a cat who was super loving and would cuddle. They found the perfect cat for me. His name was Maude but, my grandma named him BooBoo so that’s his official name haha. I recommend heartland though, they’re all super nice and they helped me pick out the right one :’)the first photo of the day I got him and this is him now <3

This is a terrible place. I originally wanted to adopt only one kitten and then they told me they will only let them go as pairs. So seriously considered adopting as pairs, but mentioned my parents that are older (I’m 46) wouldn’t like adopting two, and then they insisted that every member of the family come in before they get adopted. My family simply won’t. What makes me so mad is that they would rather see those kittens in little cages, or most, a small room, than loved on and adopted. by

I have absolutely nothing bad to say. Everyone on shift when I went earlier this evening was super kind, helpful, and they helped me pick out my new fur baby that I am already oh so in love with. I highly recommend you come here if you’re looking for a new furry companion, they have so many incredible options!! Thank you Heartland for helping me find my new best friend!!! I couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter of my life with my new kitty.

Adopted our cat Steam Roller (now Torufinn) from them. The shelter is clean and all the volunteers are very nice and really care about the animals there. We had a great experience with them and would encourage people to adopt from them!

Honestly don’t know where to begin with this review. My boyfriend and I have been searching to adopt a second cat, and we have been visiting different shelters to find out perfect kitty but always kept on coming back to Heartland. The staff is always friendly, welcoming, and is knowledgeable in each kitty’s history (medical, where they came from, etc.). The shelter itself is very clean, cat and dog areas are kept tidy. Although we found our perfect kitty to complete our family (obviously from Heartland!), we hope to come back and visit to play with the other animals that are still searching for a forever home. I cannot thank Teri and Amy enough as they were so kind and helpful throughout the process! I will forever recommend this shelter to anyone who is looking to adopt a fur baby.

My husband and I adopted our cat, Phaedra here. The team worked to make sure she was the best fit for our family, answered all of our questions and everything went smoothly. We love our kitty ❤️

We adopted our two lovely dogs from here. Great place, but they can get very busy at times which is very good for the animals. We worked with Tom both times and he was wonderful. We also donated crates our pooches have outgrown.Anyway, they can always use more volunteers and foster homes.We wouldnt adopt from any other shelter.

I went in last year to visit and possibly adopt a cat. The staff is phenomenal and they gave me plenty of time and space to spend in the cat rooms until one of the cats chose me. From there it was an easy process to finish up the adoption application. Its been a year with ny healthy and happy adopted cat. I will be returning to Heartland once i get a bigger place.

We adopted the sweetest kittens from Heartland. We are so happy with our experience with Heartland. The staff is so friendly and eager to help the animals find a good home. They are also very responsive, quick to return emails and calls, and happy to answer questions. When we adopted our cats, they were spayed and vaccinated which was wonderful! They were very healthy and trained to the litter box and very well socialized. We worked with Teri, Sam, and Jenny, and they were all so helpful and great to work with.

They're very busy and have lots to do they work hard trying to take care of all the animals. So when they have so much to do bedside manners may not be a 100% but that's ok...their manners for the animals is what's priority. It's a tough job and they do a fantastic job placing animals. One person's bad day doesn't dictate their entire service to these animals. For anyone that questions that remember what they deal with daily. Shelters are not puppy stores at the mall. (Which isn't good for animals anyway). They are stretched thin and do a wonderful job. 🐕 Our 'Ruby June ' has been such a blessing we got from Heartland we got her June of 2019. 💙

Staff were so amazing during the entire process. We came back twice to meet a pup we were interested in and on our second visit, we got to spend a lot of alone time with her to make sure we really liked her and she was comfortable with us. We are so happy to have our little Lilly keeping our hearts full of love and happiness.

Delightful people, wondeful space. Perfect to find your forever-friend. I can't recommend Heartland Animal Shelter enough. It so wonderful that I drove an hour each way just to pet the doggos.

My family had the best experience adopting our sweet kitten. I was a walk-in and the staff showed me around and gave me tons of helpful information on each cat so I could make an informed decision. The staff was very friendly and made the process smooth and easy. They take very good care of both the cats and the adoptive families, and continue to check in to make sure everything is going well. We highly recommend Heartland!

I adopted my cat Lily from Heartland in 2016 and the entire adoption process was seamless! I continue to be impressed with how the shelter is run and all the outreach and fundraising activities they host. Even though I live in the city and can't physically make the drive out to Northbrook that often, I still feel like I'm contributing to the shelter through activities like Bachelor/Bachelorette brackets, virtual bingo and trivia (perfect during these shelter in place times), digital pet paintings, etc. Please continue to keep up your fun and innovative fundraising activities for those of us who want to help the animals from afar!

Adopted a bonded pair from here, great experience. Was a medical concern once we got pet home, they were very receptive to addressing immediately. Me sure we had everything we needed as we left. Couldn't be happier.
