Such an awesome place! Absolutely a must have experience! I messaged their Facebook kinda last minute and was pleasantly surprised when Gretta herself answered and said her & her hubby would open up the store just for us! It was me & my bf's first time out there & we can't wait to go back! I'm dying to do a soap making class, the ones we bought smelled absolutely amazing! They even offer hiking with the goats!

My husband and I went to Gretta's Goat Farm for our second visit. Our stay was amazing. We were able to experience the quiet stay on the farm, the cozy guest house and THE GOATS! The goats are amazing. We were able to pet them freely as the hosts allow you to interact with them. Especially on the goat hike. I was fortunate enough to do this on back-to-back days. It was so fun to play with the goats as they ran around. The hosts are extremely friendly and so nice. They were happy to chat about the farm and provided a chance to purchase things at their store. We took home everything from T-shirts, to goat soap, to honey. All of which were great. The experience on the farm was calm, quiet and therapeutic. We can't wait to go back:)

We took our 2 grandsons, ages 6 and 4, to Grettas Goats. We had reserved the 4 tickets a couple months ahead. Checking in was easy, our names were on the list generated for that days hike. We signed a simple form and waited by the goat pen for the other members of our group to arrive so we could start the hike. The hike is clearly explained, and how the goats will behave was also explained and all went smoothly. We go to the start of the trail, and then the goats are let out and called by Gretta to where we are at the start of the trail and we proceed. It is a leisurely and comfortable pace for all. I would say anyone from 4 to senior citizen will be able to complete the hike as long as they can walk up a few gentle inclines. The path winds through woods on a trail that is mowed but left natural, not perfectly smoothly groomed like, say, a city park path. Easily navigated, and clean of debris. I am guessing it's about 1/2 wooded and 1/2 field, all mowed. I would use bug deterrent in the warm months, although we experienced no bugs this early May day.The goats are perfect goats, stopping to browse, then trotting or gallavanting up to near the front of the people group. They are a small Nigerian dwarf goat, so the perfect accompanying animal size. Our group ranged in age from our grandsons, 4 & 6, a young and very professionally polite 10 (?) Yr old girl who was a great help, to my husband and I, 64 & 63. The hike was easy and enjoyable for our whole group. There was polite conversation the whole time, approximately 45 minutes. Our 6 year old did not want to leave and I promised we will go back. There is also a lovely gift shop that is not to be missed. They have the most delicious caramels, seasoning salt and a few other seasonings (Turmeric seasoning for popcorn for one), and of course Soap. It's a tranquil spot and a wonderful getaway for a couple hours. The animals and areas are clean and well kept. You are asked to call ahead and schedule your visits as they are a small business and run limited hours, but I found that to be what helps it be so well run. It was definitely worth it. 5 star for sure.

I took my daughter to visit the animals on the farm, for one of the baby goat cuddle sessions. We had such a great time. It was so therapeutic to hold them and watch them sleep, while we cuddled with them. Gretta was so kind and allowed us to go visit the other animals on the farm. It was definitely a hilite for my daughter and I. We will be back. Thanks again for your hospitality on your farm!

My boyfriend surprised me with a trip out to Gretta’s Goats for a soap making class for my birthday—and we had SO much fun! We were given an awesome tour around the beautiful farm, hung out with goats, learned all about how they started their business, and made beautiful goat milk soap to take home. My heart is so full and we can’t wait to go back next season! In the meantime, we will definitely be returning customers to buy more handmade soap, raw honey, and goat cheese! Thank you so much for such a wonderful day!

It was so much fun to take a one hour hike with the little goats. We brought our adult children and our grandchildren. We enjoyed the hike and Gretta and Eric were wonderful and so informed about the goats. My grandchildren want to know when they can go back.

Fun hike with friends and goats! The host(s) were friendly as were the goats. The hike was not too taxing, but still a hike. Some wooded, some pasture. I definitely recommend this for anyone wanting something outdoors a little different from the usual park hike.

After more than a year of being hunkered down for the pandemic, my wife and I thought we would take a chance away from our house for spring break by spending it at the guest house at Short Leg Farm. What a fabulous decision it was! The guest house was charming, and quite private. We had everything we needed in the kitchen to cook meals with ingredients we brought from home. We were able to hike the grounds and interact with the goats, donkeys, and dogs with complete confidence. Gretta, Eric, and the farmhands were all very respectful about social distancing and wearing masks. We were even able to participate in the first cheese-making class of the season, and got to see how they make their wonder soaps! A wonderfully restorative week! Thanks Gretta and Eric!

This farm is the absolute best in the Midwest! So clean, doesn't even smell like a farm! Animals are very well taken care of and happy. Owners are chill and fun:) Always a great time and affordable! I go frequently.

Whether it's snuggling some baby goats, a goat hike or buying soaps, Grettas Goat farm never disappoints! Gretta & Eric are two of the sweetest and most welcoming people, providing a beautiful farm for people to enjoy, relax and take in! My twin boys always have the best experience while there no matter what we're doing. The goats are very well taken care of, along with the donkeys, guardian livestock pups (Trudy and Vivian are the cutest new addition!) And the soap has become not only a household favorite but an extended family favorite that gets rave reviews! While the tea tree is my favorite and the seasonal apple scent is my son's favorite, you can't go wrong with any of them! Thanks so much for everything you do!!!

What a unique and fun experience. The most kind people and intimate way to get ‘on the farm’. I took my kids to the goat hike and we all had a wonderful time.

Went for the goat hike & had the best time! We had a chance to see the other goats along with the other farm animals. Forest the goat was the best, we arrived early and he proceeded to follow us around. Bought a handful of soaps too and love the Almond scented one. Worth the visit & time ^^ Recommend checking the area afterwards, there is a Japanese garden in Rockford & other museums.

Had a great hike with the goats! Not a bad idea to bring mosquito repellant if you're susceptible (as I am). Definitely bring a camera, friends, and family. After the hike, pick up some memories in the gift shop; we've been enjoying goat-milk chocolate caramels at home.

We've been buying the oatmeal soap from Gretta's for years. My wife has sensitive skin, and this is a product she can use. I hope they stay in business for a long time!

Perfect way to spend a summer afternoon—snuggling baby goats and stocking up on soaps, cheese, and especially caramels. Gretta and the goats are lovely, and the drive from Chicago is easy. Will definitely be back.

For my dad's birthday, I arranged for my son and my dad to stay at Short Leg Farm, to do a soap making class, and to take a hike with the goats. My dad and my son loved every minute of their time at Short Leg Farm. They had so much quality time with the goats! My son was even able to bottle feed one of the newborn goats. They both loved hanging out with the dogs and the cats, too! Gretta was kind enough to give some farm fresh eggs for the guys to cook up for breakfast in the cottage. The cottage itself was beautifully appointed, the perfect size for the two of them (my dad in the bed and my son on the pull out couch bed). They both learned so much and came back energized and with so many amazing stories (and yummy treats like goat milk caramels!) that now I want to stay at the farm, too! Our family will definitely be back!

Goat snuggles!!! I really shouldn't have to say more but I will. Lovely open spaces where you can also see some mini donkeys and adorable Great Pyrenees pups... Saw a few cats and a Corgi as well. So many heart smiles. :)

I took an introduction to beekeeping class there and just went on one of their goat hikes. I enjoyed both very much! The goats are flipping cute and it’s beautiful out there. The owners are so friendly and enjoy sharing their knowledge. I definitely want to take more classes and hang out out with the goats again!

Absolutely love this place. Me and my son love goats so we visit a couple times a year at least. The owners couldn’t be any kinder, they are the nicest people. They are so sweet to my son. The baby goat snuggle sessions are our favorite. We would do this every weekend if we could! We also love the hikes. I love that you can be one on one with the goats, actually touch and pet them. Their products are amazing also. My son has sensitive skin and he will only use their soap now. We are lucky to have such a great place to visit so close to home.

I have been buying soap from Gretta's Goats for several years and continue to be absolutely delighted with everything I get. I often give them as gifts, and everyone loves it! Most importantly Gretta is a lovely human. She is so kind and clearly loves what she is doing. I highly recommend!

Me and my five year old daughter attended the soap making and baby goats class. They were extremely welcoming and accomodating. As we talked through soap making, my daughter was beginning to lose attention and Gretta was more than happy to find her a baby goat to hold and play with. They included my daughter in most steps (except adding lye which is dangerous). They allowed her to feed their bottle baby goat as well. The class itself was so wonderful and I feel as though I gained the knowledge to make soap for my family with our goat milk. I am so thankful we attended this class and was very happy with every part of it! Thank you for going above and beyond!

My husband and I enjoyed our visit today to Gretta's goat farm... We had the pleasure of spending a few hours with Eric while taking the cheese class. Learning of their journey with the farm was truly impressive. They have a love for their business and it shows. The goats themselves are adorable, extremely friendly and personable. We also did purchase soap, which we look forward to enjoying, a little feta and soft cheese spread.. Overall, great experience... My only "I wish moment" was, for the $75 per person cost, "i wish" it included a container of cheese. I understand the batch made that day wouldn't work well to take home, but a previous batch could be distributed. It made me wonder, the soap class, do you get to take home what you make? Having the pleasure of experiencing glass making, pottery and painting classes, you always get to take home what you make.. Overall, a great, recommended experience and it was fun for us as we celebrated my husband's 60th birthday!!

I recently worked with Gretta to book a 2 hour play date with the goats for a Bachelorette party with 6 ladies. Everything was perfect and Gretta couldn't have been more lovely or easier to work with! We had a quick toast to the bride and were then escorted to the first barn where we got to love on the livestock guardian dogs, goats and donkeys. The second barn held more goats and their 2 newer LGDs - the pups were so friendly and sweet! It was a really joyful experience all around. Highly recommend a visit or a booking!
