I recently visited Aquatica and had a semi-happy experience. Their website could use an update to current standards which had me a bit worried about quality but I was pleasantly surprised after I arrived by the knowledgeable and friendly staff. The shop was well kept and had a good supply of equipment and livestock, particularly for saltwater aquariums. Prices were reasonable, but vary depending on what you're looking for.I purchased 7 fish, including a pleco, and followed the acclimation instructions given to me by the employee (didn't catch his name). The pleco was recommended by him and looked nice, but unfortunately it died the first night. It's worth noting that Aquatica does not offer a guarantee on livestock, which is displayed throughout the shop. I understand that water parameters can't always be guaranteed at a customers home, but as someone who keeps their tank clean and tests their water regularly, it's frustrating to throw money away on a fish that doesn't survive.Overall, I will probably return to Aquatica for cheaper fish, as I like to support local businesses over big box stores. However, for a more expensive fish, I will look for a shop that offers a livestock guarantee. I don't like wasting money, especially these days. That being said, If you're in the market for saltwater aquarium equipment and livestock or freshwater, Aquatica is definitely worth checking out.

Went here on 3/27/2024, was met by some very friendly workers & clean tanks! Beautiful selection of salt and fresh water fish, supply’s, and decor! All the fish were in good condition, plants were very nice and decor was well priced. Lots of good examples of good fish keeping in their tank room, well stocked and heavily planted. Prime example of a good local fish store, hopefully their freshwater selection grows eventually, but still much better then any store I’ve seen around here. Only complaint i can make is they had a big cichlid (jaguar?) in with a single silver dollar, he was attacking the poor silver dollar. But, overall a 5/5 experience and it seems to be only getting better!

The 2 ladies that assisted with my Avocado Puffers were the absolute best. Took the time to answer lots of questions, watched the puffers get to eat and did an outstanding job ensuring the puffers would be safe on the 3 hour trip home.

GREAT SERVICE! I walked in with my young son just to look and walked out with some fish for his tank. They answered ALL of his questions, and there were manyyyy. They were attentive and treated him with respect. I loved the way they treated him so much that we walked out with several fish, snails and food. We are both excited to go back!

Great find!! I have a big tank with 🐢🐢turtles which are not the cleanest of pets. I have been there a couple of times to have water tested and their suggestions and informed has really helped when my tank is not looking or smelling to well. Thank you for your patience and knowledge.

Very friendly and knowledgeable people about aquariums. They will make sure your tank is completely ready before you put any fish in. The only issue I had was that the price of the fish can be very high, anywhere from $15 to $300 per fish

I made the drive to Tinley Park based on the previous reviews and was glad i did. It's clear that the high rating is deserved as soon as you speak to one of the staff. Eric and Mario were both extremely helpful and gave me great advice on setting up a new marine aquarium. I will continue to make the drive in order to support this type of service!

Beautiful pet store with a large variety of fresh water and salt water fish as well as tons of supplies for both. Tanks are clean and beautiful, however some prices are outrageous. Staff wasn't the nicest and ignored me when I asked questions, I felt rushed out of the door. Besides prices this place is great! Be aware there is no guarentee on any livestock(fish/coral/etc) though!

This store has an expansive stock of aquarium/tank products for salt water and fresh.The stock animals are all in a good clean tank, and all appeared healthy at the time of my visit.The staff were friendly and helpful.Also be sure to check out the Shark in the centre tank, it's beautiful.

I've been to many reef shops or pet shops mostly on the south side of Chicago and South suburbs. Now aquatica I've been visited maybe 4 times and it always reminds me of a high end reef shop almost like what you find on the north side of the city. Its definitely clean and well-organized and does have a variety or products for your aquarium needs but it all comes with a price. Definitely on the high side on the costs. I saw this flame angel that ive seen many times at other stores for around 40 to 60 maybe even 70 and thats a hard maybe, for 100$ here at aquatica and thats just one example. But again if you are in a big need for salt or supplements for your aquarium and can't wait to go to a cheaper shop or wait for it to be delivered well more than likely they'll have it here but you are going to pay.

I bought a clownfish here and it died the next day and he has signs everywhere saying no guarantee on livestock. but I called the owner anyway and he helped me out . He is very professional and runs a great fish store . I will definitely be back love this place and the huge shark tank

I love this store. Kind, professional and very patient service, rich assortment of freshwater and saltwater, the staff is always available to help and advice. I highly recommend it to my friends and sincerely recommend it to everyone. I was there many times and I'm sure I will come back. I started with small 1 gal aquarium with goldfish and now I need bigger than 30 gal or another one. The best place if you are fish lover or you want to become one.

The selection of saltwater fish was great and of course the coolest thing being the giant little sharks! I went in particularly for freshwater fish though and there were very few to select from but to be fair, it was between christmas and new year. The staff did confirm that they were waiting for some deliveries to come in. I will say the staff are upbeat, friendly and the tanks are well kept. I hope to see more freshwater fish the next time I stop by.

I would give 0 stars if I could! Really rude! I called in for the first time to ask if they had sharks in stock & ask 2 more basic questions. All for him to say, “um we are an open pet aquatic shop you can come any day we are open bye” dude.. um do you even know how to run ur own business??!! you don’t even have matters you couldn’t say hi or anything. Be grateful that you’re still standing behind that counter but not for long I’ll make sure to sue you goodluck hillbilly

I don’t think there is a better store owner then Mario. When I met him years ago I had a 75 gallon. Now I have 2 250 gallon tanks. At one point he wouldn’t even sell me fish unless I could come in and get water tested and made sure things were consistent. Always gives the best advice he doesn’t just sell you a fish. These guys helped me setup my first saltwater tank! They guide you with what to do and how to make sure you can maintain good water quality. So far I bought live rocks from them, bacterial balls, and fish. Their prices are a bit higher than others but they have very well maintained healthy fish (unlike most other fish stores) and will give you advice tailored to the specific fish you are buying. They also have lots of unique fish you don't find in other stores.

Mario and his staff are the best. I’m new to the saltwater hobby, but they go above and beyond helping their customers. Being a beginner, I always have lots of questions, but they are always eager to answer and help me out. They recognize the value of excellent customer service and want you to be successful in your hobby. Anytime I’m there they always recognize me and greet me by name, very personable. In addition, they have a good stock of healthy saltwater fish, supplies, etc. A must visit if you are looking to dive into the hobby!

After visiting several marine fish stores in the area, I feel comfortable saying that this is hands down the best in Chicago and surrounding areas. I honestly have no reason to shop elsewhere as this store has everything you might need. Mario is a great guy and he and his staff make it a welcoming environment. I should go on to say that this is by far the cleanest store I have been to in the area. The prices are completely fair and I sincerely look forward to every visit. Great store for both seasoned and beginner hobbyists. Would give it a 10 star review if I could.

We bought our pet betta fish (Toby ) here, a tank and accessories. They are extremely knowledgeable and friendly and you can tell they love what they do. We definitely will be back for more fish.
